Over inappropriate behaviour towards women. Anyone surprised?

I don’t follow him particularly but isn’t he another “look what I do for charity” types? Truly charitable people don’t advertise it.

“After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams. ”

Thought it was a strange press release - ‘ … under the leadership of its new CEO’ - made me think that other people in the company didn’t agree with the decision (because of revenue?). I guessed correctly, that the new UK CEO was female ! It’s throwing her under the bus and she obviously hasn’t got the full support of everyone. Wonder if her days are numbered (she only officially started in October).

I'm happy by this news. I doubt anyone is surprised!

PodMom · 19/12/2025 17:29

The question is if complaints were made in 2023 why now? Maybe it is the new CEO, maybe it’s something else.

How Harper Collins were happy to sell his shitty books in the first place has always amazed me, and that's without looking at his behaviour around others in real life.

Edited

Publishers publish what they think will sell not what they think is good. They’re a business like anyone else. And those books did sell, in their millions.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/12/2025 17:32

Good!

Using blackface in the 00s is inexcusable anyway

It only happened after the CEO changed and the new one, a women, launched an investigation.

The old CEO (male) seemed quite happy to continue with him as a client.

Publishers seem to be odious themselves, ignoring things like this for years just to make money.

The rumours about him and his young female fans where he made them sign NDAs before being alone with them still hasn't seen proper investigation yet.

Doesn’t surprise me. It always takes ages for anything to be done in cases like this.

GreyBeeplus3 · 19/12/2025 17:38

No, and I hated Little Britain too

WonderfulSmith · 19/12/2025 17:40

I’m not surprised in the slightest. And I won’t be should further allegations come out.

littleburn · 19/12/2025 17:42

Finally! A young woman local to me has some interesting stories. She was one of the very young women invited - unaccompanied - to his dressing room on Britain’s Got Talent. He’s incredibly litigious and has killed stuff off so far, but this feels like things are edging into the light.

BotterMon · 19/12/2025 17:44

Not a minute too soon. The ick personified.

I hope one of the very young women has finally spoken out. Or more than one of them.

He deserves jailtime.

worcesterpear · 19/12/2025 17:47

I'm a bit surprised as I thought he was gay - wouldn't have been surprised if it was inappropriate behaviour towards boys though, I suppose.

Carandache18 · 19/12/2025 17:47

Probably at least half a dozen ghost writers now out of a job.

I think something quite big is about to come out against him….like some sort of police charge. The daily mail have been running some odd pieces about him recently, along the lines of his lonely life/xmas. Which is an unusual story for someone pretty much not in the public eye now. Really emphasising how Simon Cowell no longer follows him on social media. They sometimes do this when they know something else is brewing but cant yet break the story.

I feel the same!
He makes my skin crawl!
No surprise here!

A female CEO at HC after a swift exit by the previous male CEO...
could be a clue! 😏

BillieWiper · 19/12/2025 17:52

Least surprised ever.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 19/12/2025 17:55

I've said this before on here. I knew him socially. He was vile. Sneery, not interested in people unless they were famous. Honestly have never felt so small in my life. The way he looks at you is just awful.

I can't remember when it was- maybe 15 years ago- the News of the World ran an expose of him (with videos online) in a private room of a lapdancing club. He was wanking. He'd bribed the security guard to let him go into a private room.

If you look for those videos now, or any trace of this story, it's gone. Nothing. He has obviously found a way of getting this removed.

Always knew he was a wrong 'un.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 19/12/2025 17:55

OMG that's such an enormous shock...said no one!

I think he hates women and probably very much enjoys making them uncomfortable.
He really is odious.
Another one hiding in plain sight.

Over40Overdating · 19/12/2025 17:59

@PodMom yes I agree. I’m surprised it was the Telegraph that landed this story as the Guardian have been sitting on a really big piece for a long time but Harper Collins have tied them in knots with legal threats.

DW has only been as litigious as the Murdoch coffers emboldened him to be. The new CEO and poor sales means that firepower is no longer at his disposal.

He’ll have a statement out calling this a witch hunt with no proof by morning.

I hope the Guardian publish what they’ve been sitting on and he’s finally properly held to account for his disgusting behaviour.

maybe he'll cone out as a Laydee who likes Laydee things? so he couldn't possibly have harassed other Laydees? Or maybe a timely autism diagnoses?

Giggorata · 19/12/2025 18:00

Didn’t I see a video of him pulling some poor embarrassed young lad's trousers down actually onstage?
In plain sight, similar to Savile groping that girl on camera on Top of the Pops.
No one did anything.

Over40Overdating · 19/12/2025 18:01

@Bulbsbulbsbulbs the news of the world was owned by Murdoch who also owns Harper Collins - anything that impacted DW’s reputation as the new Roald Dahl was removed and anyone threatening to expose him got the full force of Murdoch’s legal team, who have limitless funds when it comes to protecting money makers.
