Hahaha! I bought my hubby a cheese platter from Aldi as a special treat for Christmas. About 6 different cheeses already cut into cubes. He'll love it! Think it was £4.99 😂

YDBear · 20/12/2025 18:22

The most bougie thread I have ever read on Mumsnet.

notionpotion · 20/12/2025 18:27

Got mine today and spent around the same amount- I love my local cheese shop and am happy to support them as well as lots of producers in Yorkshire 💙

Thanks for the thread @BootMaker, sorry so many people have felt the need to be so negative just because you don’t do exactly what they feel you should do 🤷🏻‍♀️

hellotomrw · 20/12/2025 18:28

We aren’t in the same tax bracket clearly 😂 £120 on cheese

CalzoneOnLegs · 20/12/2025 18:31

@notionpotion it would be awful to lose the proper cheesemakers of the UK so all we are left with is factory Conglomerates. Enjoy your lovingly produced with TLC for months cheese ❤️

Celticgold · 20/12/2025 18:36

Crazy. I love cheese but no

Incelebration · 20/12/2025 18:41

BootMaker · 19/12/2025 15:38

And obviously I want that much cheese, otherwise I would have ordered, err, less cheese...

This genuinely made me LOL.

And I love how you classified hot chocolate as cheese (sort of).

Barney16 · 20/12/2025 18:48

I bought DP a cheese selection from Waitrose which cist £8.50 and I was a bit miffed about that 🙂

handsdownthebest · 20/12/2025 18:50

YABU for not having a Black Bomber in there.

Miaminmoo · 20/12/2025 19:09

I host every year and my lovely SIL lives in Cumbria near the Appleby Creamery and always brings a shipping order of cheese - I think I’m the only one who has any concept of how much this costs her. I’m always very grateful and the cheese is superb. I’m always flabbergasted by how expensive good cheese is. Love eating it though ☺️

Have you tried their RockStar

XWKD · 20/12/2025 19:11

It's not Christmas without blue cheese on a cracker with a glass of red wine.

Cheese can be very expensive. If it's well-made I think it's worth it, but I only buy a fairly small amount.

No!! Yorkshire!!

The courtyard dairy? (Yes I know there’s others, but it’s the only place I’ve managed to spend 3 figures on cheese!)

Bloody love it though!

clary · 20/12/2025 19:22

To all those saying this is ridiculous and they spend £3.25 in Lidl on cheese...

  • @BootMaker spent the money (clearly) in an independent specialist shop of the kind surely we all wish there were more of. Like local small pubs or town centre indie bookshops. That's a good thing yes?
  • I bet lots of you spend a similar amount or close to it on something at Christmas time. I deffo spent more than than on booze (I love my wine) – inc the aforementioned £28 port. Maybe you post 50 Christmas cards (that would cost you close to £100 if sent first class).

Just allow them the joy of their cheese. I am not a fan but clearly they are and I applaud their enthusiasm.

Just seen not - but to others on the post - worth a visit. Not sure I would dare the week before Xmas though!!!

Incorrect!

Seems like I got a bargain at £121.

It's my standard Christmas cheese order, usually about £80-90.

Just felt a bit toppy!

I dont understand how you order without knowing how much it will cost?

Gosh this is a bargain! I’m down on the south coast, be lucky to get 3 cheeses for that here 🤪

Yourcatisnotsorry · 20/12/2025 19:35

I just spent £60 on cheese 😳

AD1509 · 20/12/2025 19:36

I do love alp blossom

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 20/12/2025 19:42

£250,000. But don't like to boast

EvieBB · 20/12/2025 19:58

😂😂😂

Supergirl1958 · 20/12/2025 20:00

I paid around £15 for 500g of cheddar and 200g of crumbly Lancashire earlier! In fact, I took out £120 to buy a turkey, fruit &veg, cheese, crusty cobs and a cake and some steak mince, ham hock snd half a kilo of bacon and I have about £25 left. It’s so expensive these days!!

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 20/12/2025 20:22

BootMaker · 19/12/2025 15:11

For reference I got

A Vacherin
500g of stichelton
500g of Montgomery Cheddar
An Epoisses
A bungay raw butter
500g sparkenhoe
250g of smoked Coverdale
250g Alp blossom

2 x perello olives
1 x fancy hot chocolate

I haven't seen the total yet, but what you listed must be at least six or seven pounds of cheese, guessing at the weights not listed. How many are you feeding - the five thousand??!

It's a lot for one type of food! You're generous, OP. Many would have given their guests three triangles of Laughing Cows each and bulked it out with crackers! 🤣

121 quid on cheese 😲😲 Jesus my turkey and ham and lots of sides don't even cost that, my blood pressure is rising reading that list, would keel over with a heart attack.

I'm amazed at how much people spend on Christmas food on here. I was puzzled about all these expensive turkeys, so I went onto the Sainsbury's website and found you can get one for 15-20 pounds. And veg is cheap. Christmas food only costs a fortune if you want it to.
