Just horrendous. There was a big Jewish gathering on the beach. Jewish festival goers targeted by two gunmen. At least ten people dead according to police.

The BBC just showed the video. The bystander is a massive bloke. The gunman runs off. He didn't like it when the tables are turned and the gun was pointed at him.

There’s a longer video I’ve seen where the second gunman stands on a bridge and starts shooting in the direction of the hero bystander. The Australian newscaster was saying he hopes the bystander is ok but they had at that time no news on him.

I’m Australian and I am just devastated about this attack on our Jewish Australians. Our Prime Minister should hang his head in shame for his weak pathetic response to the growing antisemitism in Australia that started on October 2023 when he refused to condemn the hate march at the Sydney Opera House which celebrated the biggest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust. He allowed the weekly Globalise the Intifada marches to continue unabated, even to the point that his electoral office was shuttered for over a year due to protests outside that he would not end, for fear of losing votes in crucial Western Sydney seats.

The great Labor leaders of the past, like Bob Hawke, must be rolling in their graves over our current government’s abandonment of Jewish Australians.

I agree and think this could be a watershed moment for the country.

Rhodie72 · 14/12/2025 11:36

Every Western nation ought to be on the lookout now. It is, going by the news, a silent war that has been cleverly declared with various political parties and nation leaders' blessings.
Given that a terrorist attack on a German Christmas Market has just been foiled, I think we should all be on the alert.
My thoughts and prayers are with all members of the Jewish people across the world, the Coptic Christians suffering in various non-Christian countries and Christians in India, whose sufferings are also being ignored by our free and fair press as well as our politicians.

This is part of the problem @clearfruit.People can look at whatever links they like. Putting people in silos of “good” and “bad” means some people get a free pass to commit atrocities because the liberal elite deem they have come from the “good” silo.

The car they covered with the black flag??

if so, I don't know why it's taken so long to find the bomb. I'd have thought they'd have taken a fine tooth comb to it immediately

They haven’t literally just found it, they’ve confirmed it.

They'll have needed an explosives team to verify it was a bomb before they could confirm and they’d probably only start searching after the scene was completely clear of people.

Summeriscumin · 14/12/2025 11:40

Such amazing bravery from that man who disarmed the terrorist, must have saved many lives.

Antisemitism should not be tolerated, this is what it leads to.

I agree and think this could be a watershed moment for the country.

You would hope so but we have these attacks all the time in Europe and the watershed never comes. All that happens is a government and media playbook on how to manage the public response to the attack is put into action and the focus moves onto heroes and vigils and solidarity symbols and Don't Look Back In Anger, and nothing ever changes.

Adeline767 · 14/12/2025 11:41

So sad for all those involved and I’m sure the fear is rife throughout Jewish communities across the world. I feel so sorry for all of them. Sickening atrocity.

i was worried for him when
he placed the gun against the tree & stepped back. I hoped it was because the armed police had shown up. But they hadn't.

hes an incredibly brave man, I hope he's ok. Xx

tobee · 14/12/2025 11:42

I mean, it is part of the problem. I'm not a troll - i have an opinion that's different to yours.

Someone who writes this and then claims they haven't read the news story so "just thought it was a beach shooting"? Yeah sure.

MaturingCheeseball · 14/12/2025 11:43

I agree I can’t stand the “all” extremists trope. German Christmas markets have been repeatedly targeted and disrupted with marches and placards. There’s only one group doing this!

And the “evil individual” narrative is not really applicable here. The perpetrators are not insane school shooter-types, but those who have been radicalised online and through some of their community leaders.

ParmaVioletTea · 14/12/2025 11:43

The depth and breadth of Jew hatred is just astounding. I have Jewish family in Sydney. It’s sickening.

This is why Jews need Israel. And why the real and metaphorical “suitcase in the hall” goes on, through the generations. Even in a supposedly safe country like Australia.

To be fair to @Whenlifegiveslemons The Guardian for one outlet resisted mentioning a Jewish festival was targeted for as long as they possibly could without appearing unseemly. (I know, the Guardian. Shocked )

Surely not The Guardian...that bastion of good sense and unbiased reporting.

There was a time when I wouldn't have wrapped my chips in the rag, as I wouldn't have subjected them to its appalling spelling and grammar.

Now, I choose not to wrap my chips in in because of its incoherent stance and biased "reporting".

It makes me laugh that the Daily Mail is seen as evil on here, despite running some good campaigns in favour of women's rights and yet this second rate paper is held up as a Beacon of Truth!

It does seem though that all those who sing its praises don't actually buy it, as they are always rattling their begging bowl.

I can't see it surviving much longer, thank goodness and its hateful anti semitic and pro men pretending to be women defences will no longer pollute the news outlets.

I wonder how they will present this latest atrocity: Man Shoots People on Beach.

And yet people are STILLallowed to marching the UK holding massive signs calling for infitada. Why aren’t the arrested? What do people think it’s means? It’s means this - killing Jews.

This.

I wish all my kind friends who demonstrate for Palestine would understand this.

TheTamerShrew · 14/12/2025 11:49

It is absolutely horrific, and this should be a wake up call about what happens when Anti-Semitism goes unchallenged, and extremists are allowed to propagate hate.

I am appalled that the statement by Albanese did not mention Jews, Anti-Semitism, or that this happened at a Hanukkah event.

Teacaketravesty · 14/12/2025 11:54

I just made a donation to Community Security Trust, which aims to protect Britain’s Jews and to fight anti-semitism.

FeralWoman · 14/12/2025 11:54

@TheTamerShrew Albo talked about Jewish Australians. Are you referring to the live press conference from about half an hour ago?

He absolutely did. He repeatedly said Australia stands with the Jewish community. That it was an evil outrage that people enjoying a celebration of Hanukkah should be targeted like this.

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 14/12/2025 11:30

I think the real motivation was simply evil. Non-evil people are able to listen to people from all cultures and religions without killing the people from one of them. And murder is a sin in the Koran. These acts are pure evil dressed up, because evil monsters have to pretend they have a cause. They tend not to say "I killed all these people because I'm an absolute piece of evil shit." They pretend it's in the name of religion, when all religious texts actually preach that murder is a terrible sin.

No. Many religious texts sanction the murder of disbelievers, apostates and rule breakers. Some religions backtrack from the bloodlust, others glorify in them and codify them into law. Not all of us are ignorant nor naive.

Me too. I made a donation after Manchester, but have now made it a monthly direct debit. Only small, but it's something.

Disgusting.
And yes obviously it was an anti semitic attack. Two men of middle Eastern appearance - who according to eye witnesses, put a black flag with an emblem on it over their car - before shooting people celebrating Hanukkah.

And yet there will be apologists saying this is a brave act of "freedom fighting." Not sure when the Western world will drop its white saviour naivety and recognise what's actually happening.

This

I have no idea who raise the colours is, so clicked on it. It's a video of a man extremely bravely disarming a man who is actively shooting with a large gun. I'm off to Google who raise the colours is.

The PM says: "My message to Jewish Australians is that your fellow Australians stand with you tonight in condemning this act of terror, in condemning this outrage.

"I've had a number of conversations with people tonight. One of the Jewish community leaders said to me that we know where antisemitism leads, that it leads to an attack on everyone, not just Jewish Australians.

"And this attack at Bondi Beach, of all places, a place of celebration, a place where people particularly in Sydney but from all over the world come to enjoy each other's company and to, in this case, at the Bondi Pavilion there.

"I'm very familiar with that pavilion. This senseless attack is one which is an act of terror. It is aimed at creating fear. But we will stand with the Jewish community and Jewish Australians at this time."
