This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

Well... I headed to work this morning and my car hit a patch of black ice and i ended up on my side in a ditch, suspended by my seat belt for half an hour until the fire service got me out. Been checked over by paramedics, bruised and tearful but im ok. Home in bed at the moment

Oh my god. You poor thing 😭 Glad you are safe at home again but what an awful shock and hassle to sort out now.

Gosh that terrifying. Hope your nerves settle soon and the bruising isn't too bad.

Good grief that sounds terrifying! Glad you're OK but that must have been totally unnerving. Hope you have a less eventful time over the next week or so!

FurForksSake · 10/01/2026 11:00

Good grief @Rockfordpeach I’m glad you are relatively ok, but please be super careful for a few days at least. Hope you’ve got some one to look in on you.

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2026 11:05

Yikes @Rockfordpeach what a horrible shock. I do hope you're recovering gently. Are you being looked after? X

Rockfordpeach · 10/01/2026 11:18

It was pretty terrifying. Ive cried a lot. My husband is with me

MewithME · 10/01/2026 11:22

Have something sweet. You're probably in shock. It can make you feel quite weird. It's the adrenaline come down. Take it easy for rest of weekend. Glad your husband is with you. Hope he's good at tea and sympathy!

@Rockfordpeach Just adding my best wishes. Glad your husband is with you.

Today I'm truly going to have a quiet day. Yesterday was supposed to be quiet but I ended up getting dragged into family things and cooking a big meal for everyone.

My husband is going to take the dog out, so I can lie around on the sofa.

TodayIsatrickyone · 10/01/2026 11:37

Oh my goodness @Rockfordpeach that sounds utterly terrifying and I imagine the shock and adrenaline will take a while to wear off. Glad DH is with you and be kind to yourself today.

Hope everyone can have a calm and restful weekend.
@TeaAndStrumpets hurray for broadband at last 👏

Swanhilde · 10/01/2026 12:45

@Rockfordpeach gentle hugs and a cup of sweet tea for you 🤗

@Orangesandlemons77 @MewithME I've been really enjoying Katherine May's podcast The Clearing, all about what 'retreat' means for different people. Really interesting, although some are my idea of Hell 🤣

Another restful day here. The sun is glorious but it is bitter and frosty so I am in bed with knitting, tea and podcasts and will stay for the afternoon ☀️

Tea is left over chicken pie with lots of veggies that need using up followed by an early night 😴

Have a peaceful day all 💕

TeaAndStrumpets · 10/01/2026 12:50

DD1 reports the roads are lethal near her so they've gone for a walk over the fields. There were multiple crashes on her nearest A road which is 4 miles away. People are saying it hadn't been gritted, council is indignantly saying it had been! Anyway, rotten for all concerned.

Songlines · 10/01/2026 13:09

@Rockfordpeach that sounds very scary, look after yourself today.

Don't tell my kids but I've been up the step ladder and put the decs away in the top cupboard. I DIDN'T go in the roof to put the other stuff away though so I'm hoping to gloss over the fact that the decs have gone already 😀
I shouldn't have, I know, but I'm going away on Monday and just want to leave everything as clear as possible

MewithME · 10/01/2026 14:08

We are down the pub having lunch with a roaring fire in the bar 🔥 😁

That sounds amazing!

im watching digging for Britain, dh has taken ds12 for a hike and ds10 is watching cat documentaries in another room.

We are having take away burgers for tea!

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/01/2026 14:18

In bed here, just had this kind of new healthy cup a soup which has powdered veggies in it. Nice and easy

It's sunny out here too and it made me feel bad for not being out in it a bit until I read your posts about the ice etc and glad I am staying in now!

MIL didn't just turn up thankfully- I thought she might - and it is actually lovely not to have to take her out, all the time listening to her woes etc and negativity.

It can affect you mentally can't it, and I think we are much more sensitive with chronic illness in general.

Thanks for the recommendation of the podcast Swanhilde I will check that out.

MewithME · 10/01/2026 16:22

Back home and in bed now. Was a lovely little jolly. This pub is in the next town from me (nicer than my town) but I live pretty close. It's super easy. Can park close and have a little plod along the river and feel like I've been somewhere special. We watched the geese and swans whizzing along in the sunshine. I daydream about retiring there sometimes but who knows. It's such a nice community.

Food was great and DS was lovely and fun.

@Orangesandlemons77 glad you have had a break from MIL. It is hard. My mum can be very negative. It's difficult when you're treading a fine line already to support someone else emotionally. I agree.

Im ok thank you. Keep discovering new bruises and keep randomly crying. Stressed about the financial pressure of sorting it all out

MewithME · 10/01/2026 17:26

Have a good cry and let it out.. Think about the practicalities when you feel a bit stronger.

Yes this. There will be time enough for that when you're over the worst of the personal damage. And don't minimise the psychological effects either. Be very kind to yourself.

Kitterkitkat · 10/01/2026 19:31

@Rockfordpeach oh gosh it's what a terrible shock. Glad you're safely tucked up in the warm now.

@MewithME yes I'll try to persude work to get a railing, one would do. I find I'm fine even lightly touching one as it's reassuring.

Had a nice day food shopping, I did notice waitrose no.1 sour cherry teabags are under £3 now and looks like a permanent change (for now!). Still expensive but more reasonable. Also got almond sponge topped with berries, treacle tart and clotted cream 😳

I'm underweight with illness so that's my excuse!

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/01/2026 19:44

Treacle tart sounds good! I'm a bit annoyed as a relative keeps telling me things like to watch this programme with one of those doctors that tell people to eat healthy etc and now invited me to go see Joe Wicks next month.

This is since I told them about the ME CFS diagnosis. I said about me being neurological and it wouldn't be suitable as I'm advised to pace etc

Just makes me feel misunderstood and like I'm not trying hard enough or something. And today has been a difficult one too.

Sitting with a fire now though so that's good.

Kitterkitkat · 10/01/2026 19:57

@Orangesandlemons77 stretching and a gentle walk is just as good and you can absorb things around you.

Move to the beat of your own drum! People can be well intentioned but get it completely wrong.

Jealous of this fire... 🔥

Middlemarch123 · 10/01/2026 19:59

Hugs @Rockfordpeach , one day at a time, look after yourself, the practicalities can wait x
