This is the bumper Christmas issue with the added challenge of all the work Xmas brings and feelings it might bring up...but we're here. Highs and lows. 🌲🌲😴🤕🤗

They are certainly the most accurate weather forecasters and I love the banter!

Totally agree. I don't bother with the Met Office now!

It's getting blowier here now. I can hear it in my chimney. ( Not any kind of euphemism)

TodayIsatrickyone · 08/01/2026 15:52

Glad the plane has safely landed @Orangesandlemons77 and hope he’s had a good trip.

@Orangesandlemons77
Glad he's down safely, hope he's home soon

FurForksSake · 08/01/2026 20:45

so, so tired. Saw my consultant who says another month off work. Had hydrotherapy that I had to drive to and from in horrid weather.

we won’t get snow and are only in a mild yellow area.

thinking of you all in the hairy bits!

I'll make sure to listen.
How are you doing? It's quite quiet here, at the moment

Driving in these conditions is exhausting at the best of times. I hope you manage to get a decent night's sleep

BerfyTigot · 08/01/2026 21:48

@Orangesandlemons77 glad your fatigue course was helpful. I completely relate to taking on caring responsibilities which are nothing to do with me!

I always feel guilty when I'm resting. I actually feel more guilty now that I am able to do a few things (eg load dishwasher). Felt less guilty when on sofa all day unable to do anything!

Blowing hard and gusting at about 82mph.
Padstow had 123mph.
It started very suddenly...nothing then YIKES!!

It's howling down my chimney and rattling the windows. Girlcat is spooked, but cuddled up with me. Boycat doesnt seem to care and is cuddled up with DH.

Hope it blows through soon. And I hope you're ok.

Swanhilde · 08/01/2026 21:54

We have had snow - great big flakes ❄️

It's stopped now but we're due some more overnight. Will see what tomorrow brings ...

(Am only awake at this late hour because I had to watch Traitors Uncloaked after tonight's episode 😳)

Songlines · 08/01/2026 23:38

Apparently my road was flooding earlier but I didn't notice because I'd muted the road WhatsApp group, closed the curtains and hunkered down.
Now it's still blowing a hooley but the water has subsided

Stressybetty · 09/01/2026 01:16

Hope everyone's safe in the windy bits

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2026 07:56

Morning all!

We have only had rain overnight. I was hoping to be snowed in so our house viewer didn’t come but no such luck. Really not in the mood. We’ve got boxes everywhere and need to iron some pillowcases. Our favoured buyers have to get their offer rubber stamped, could take a week or so. Meanwhile we have been advised to keep showing punters round just in case anything goes wrong with the first people.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 08:12

Morning. Terrible night here, I had hydrotherapy yesterday and it’s wrecked my arms and shoulders.

MewithME · 09/01/2026 08:18

@Swanhilde glad you like the audiobook and thanks for the podcast recommendation. Sounds good 👍🏻

I'm just catching up with everyone...you've been busy on here. I had a fairly busy evening with DS being excited about snow last night and also anxious about school today. We're both happy it's now closed. Yay! Side roads here aren't good and we're on a hill so I am not moving the car unless it's an emergency!

I have a huge workload just now so got to get on with it soon and hoping DS isn't going to distract me too much! I'm glad he's not in school but it's not terribly convenient either.

Right. Going to read rest of the posts I missed now. Enjoying the moomin love. We have so much in common. We're lovely so bound to like moomins 😁 x

Update: DS has sneaked outside and is throwing slushy snowballs at my window 😂

I had best get up and at em!

Could hear a bit of wind in the night but we seem to be relatively unscathed. Hope everyone has survived ok.

Quiet day today. Had a busy day yesterday and didn't sleep well last night so need a good rest.

Kids are going back to uni tomorrow- it's been lovely having their energy around, though exhausting and chaotic and there's only 3 of them! But as it's their last night I'll put a bit more effort into tea tonight.

Have a good day everyone!

FuzzyPuffling · 09/01/2026 10:48

Survived the windy night. We kept electricity, phone signal, fences and roof so are better off than many.

Who's got snow? ( Not us, thank goodness)

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 10:50

No snow! Physio reminded me I really must not go out if it is icy.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2026 11:38

Just got in from hiding at a cafe, sent DH into M & S in search of quiche as recommended- thanks!

No rain to speak of, punters are putting their house on the market on Monday so just time-wasters basically.

I save my best until last……

WE HAVE CHAPS!!!!

Dare not speak too soon but they have been working down the road where another pole is leaning and are now are up the replacement pole near us.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 11:42

@TeaAndStrumpets this is most bestest news! What will you use the bandwidth for first?!

Ooh decisions, decisions! It’s a toss-up between Digging for Britain on iplayer, All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special (sad I know) and Pluribus on Apple. The best thing of all will be accessing my Kindle because I am worryingly low on books and it has emptied itself without Wi-Fi. Also need to catch up on the security updates which are overdue.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 11:57

I haven’t watched the Christmas special yet, I’ll treat myself to that later!

BerfyTigot · 09/01/2026 12:06

Ooh thanks for the reminder that I need to catch up on all the xmas specials - that's me sorted for a few days!

@TeaAndStrumpets good luck with all your security updates 😆
