A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

you’ve got to wonder when long established political journalists and policy economists have lost all faith in Reeves…but no she did not leak, she did not brief, and she will not apologise for fudging numbers on child poverty.

I watched about half a minute of Reeves. It was all 'leak presented inaccurate data/ I have to deal with the world I am in'.

In other words.... same old same old.

She’s was also very sneery when questioned by Harriet Baldwin.

CambridgeSingers · 10/12/2025 11:01

Sneery could describe the whole crew of the Labour govt couldn’t it!

The country has gone backwards regarding acceptance that somebody might have a bigger house or car than you. My Father was a successful businessman whose 'indulgence' and weakness was very expensive and lots of cars. He always told me that in the 1970's when going places in his Rolls Royce Silver Shadow people used to give him the 'finger' and on other luxury cars we/he would come back from a Restaurant, and see the car and been 'Keyed' all across the doors . This was common in the 1970 s due to the militant environment we lived in. By the late 1980's this type of jealousy had abetted a lot, probably due to the fact it appeared that people could acquire nice things through hard work . This, being evidenced by the 'yuppie' culture and the 'Big Bang' in the City , meaning opportunities were possible due to a growing economy.

The, attack on Private Schools, Luxury Housing and those such as Charlie Mullins have direct links back to the 1970's the time of 'British Leyland' . This being in 1977 the fourth largest Car Company in the world and defunct eight years later ! Thus, the current governments attitude towards wealth creators, small business owners and anyone who does not aspire to live a state that views anyone, with agency to be beaten down has been seen before.

This time though I do not think we can recover, like we did from 1979-1997 due to 'Demographic Factors' which along with the 'music' made the 1970's recoverable from.

Prometheus78 · 10/12/2025 11:36

Watch this unravel. Reeves is a liar.

The Chancellor was asked by Dame Harriett Baldwin, the former Tory chairman of the Treasury select committee, if she could rule out “ capital gains on primary residences” or reducing the state pension triple lock to a “single lock”.
She replied: “Yes.”

EasternStandard · 10/12/2025 13:19

Prometheus78 · 10/12/2025 09:49

Fucking amen to this.

Labour MPs have been barred from dozens of pubs and restaurants across Britain as part of a brewing backlash against high taxes.

Stickers reading “No Labour MPs” have been affixed to windows and doors by owners furious at a rise in business rates.

The campaign was started on Friday by Andy Lennox, who runs the Old Thatch pub in Dorset. He said about 50 venues have pledged to ban Labour MPs.

I mostly avoid Labour but then read a few posts on here and think good.

Christmaschristingle · 10/12/2025 13:32

Good it should roll out to cafes and other small businesses also

They don't appear to be in the same world as most people, though

In terms of barring them from hospitality venues, part of the issue is that they can legitimately say the majority of people voted for them. One of my left-wing contacts in the pub was saying the other day that there is no way an early election would happen because "Labour have a huge majority". It's quite amazing how negative some people seem to feel now, but I don't know if I'm just seeing that online because IRL I'm not hearing anti-labour sentiment, at least not within my own group . Within mum's group, yes.

I vaguely remember that when they got in, there were a couple of other suggestions during the rounds that seemed to affect hospitality, but I can't remember what they were.

in fact less than a third of the electorate voted for Labour at the last election, something they would do well to remember.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/12/2025 14:32

@Julen7 but that still translated to a big majority

I'm just making the point that if hospitality venues ban Labour MPs, I presume they'd ban Labour councillors as well, and by default, they would be barring the people that many many customers voted for.

I understand that a private venue can ban whoever they like and I respect that. It's not something I would do myself.

I live in a very Conservative area, though I suspect they'll go Reform next time. But I cannot imagine anyone doing this. I think it's fair to say most of the pubs round here would feel that it was incredibly bad for community cohesion to ban Labour councillors (we do have some of those).

Then every Labour voter would feel unwelcome in the pub surely?

maybe the whole thing is a publicity stunt.

Pacificsunshine · 10/12/2025 15:05

At an exercise class a few weeks ago, the instructor said “really punch hard- pretend it is someone you don’t like.”

The woman next to me shouted out, Rachel Reeves! And punched the air.

The back route to the supermarket in my area has so many flags waving it looks like The Mall! I doubt a sticker banning Labour would raise any eyebrows at a pub. I doubt any Labour supporters would have the temerity to complain.

How funny re exercise class.

There’s hardly anyone left their approval rating is so low, most will cheer on pub owners.

The GE vote isn’t where people are now.

Yes just not true to say the majority of the electorate voted for them. They got in through the back door because the electorate were fed up with the Tories.

Yes, it was funny. I support the conservatives, but I think my local area may go Reform. Especially the working class bits.

in fact less than a third of the electorate voted for Labour at the last election, something they would do well to remember.

In fact it was less than this, just under 20% voted for them.

33% voted Labour of the 60% who voted. So essentially 1/3*3/5 = 1/5 = 20%

When Labour had it's 2019 landslide defeat under Corbyn they got 10.269m votes.

When Labour had it's landslide win in 2024 they got 9.708m votes.

Strange to have such a big parliamentary majority with so few votes.

Among Reeves's brazen responses (lies) to questions from the Treasury Select Committee this morning, there was one stand-out truth - even more taxes.

Conservative/ Reform: 10.945 Million Votes 2024 Election
Conservative 6.828 Million Reform 4.117 Million and yet only 126 seats !

It was a complete 'fluke' and travesty and that also includes the 72 seats attained by the Liberal Democrats with 3.5 Million votes. Thus, in a nutshell 12.2 Million Votes: 483 Seats, 10.94 Million Votes: 126 seats . The two main 'left' parties only achieved 1.1 Million Votes more, hardly an ringing endorsement or a 'Landslide' this at the 'nadir' of the Conservative Party and the founding of a new Party, Reform for which even I did not vote for in 2024 !

redange · 10/12/2025 20:31

1.25 Million more votes...

Here are Labour yet again only paying lip service to the Supreme Court ruling on women’s rights to single sex services, spaces, and sports.
Yes we will exclude men from the womens’ conference, but nothing of note is decided there anyway; the real networking takes place elsewhere and the pretendy women (I.e. MEN) will still dominate there.

They have no intention of following either the spirit or the letter of the law; their contempt for women, even their own members, shines through.

Therefore, I do not believe the current polls . There are going to be at least '15' Million Votes between the Conservatives and Reform at the next General Election and less than 5 Million for Labour !

The seat counts from 'NOW CAST' do not show the 'hatred' and loathing for the current Government who in 17 months are more hated than the 18 years of Conservative Government from 1979-1997 and 2010-2024 !
