A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes feel same @TheNuthatch ive got a teen - I’m completely uninterested in hearsay about what someone said or did when they were a child. You’ve got to beat people on current policy issues.

DD 1 16 Yr 11 was very upset this morning after telling me that the 'external' School speaker who came in yesterday seemed to pick on her. The speaker was arguing for redistributing wealth and 'agency' to the poorest in society. DD believes she was set up by some other pupils because unfortunately This, when the speaker asked which of you girls had tutoring or private education. One, 'trouble' causer opened up and said redange and two others went to Prep schools before getting into Grammar. The, speaker then went on to attack DD and the other two girls, asking how many bedrooms in your house and what cars their parents drive. The teacher, apparently was 'confused' and was taken back but did not intervene the bullying.

That is very poor. I’m always amazed how often teachers are prepared to share their politics with pupils (and to try to influence them).

That’s outrageous. I would complain to the school and possibly higher. It’s unkind. Unnecessary. A waste of taxpayers money.

CaveMum · 09/12/2025 12:35

I’m still here, busy time of non-working and school events at the moment!

@redange sorry to hear that your daughter had to go through that. I echo the others that you should definitely complain.

You should complain. This is totally wrong.

Thank You Everybody.

I have been on the telephone to the Head of Year 11 who agrees, the talk 'crossed' the line when it questioned pupils material circumstances. The Head of Year however suggested it was important that some girls, realized how lucky there are both educationally and materially.

So, the ‘Corruption Czar’s’ report is out: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c075vjxyx3no

Fraud at an estimated £11bn. A small % of the total spent to keep people alive and to support business. Nothing - not a squeak - about Tory government corruption.

What a colossal embarrassment for Labour’s lie machine.

Does she also believe that the girls whose parents have no jobs should realise how lucky they are compared to children whose parents don't work in most other countries of the world, and should be questioned and shamed about that in front of their peers?

No?

It's always illuminating to turn the arguments of these mealy-mouthed apologists backwards, to see how unacceptable they are.

It's wrong to shame any child in assembly in front of her peers over their personal and family circumstances. Full stop.

The teacher should apologise to your child. But I can understand that you don't want to make waves in your child's school.

The Left wing lies will persist though. Because they were always about tribal hatred, never about truth or decency.

Its nobody else's business how many bedrooms you have, and your dd should not have been forced to disclose personal information about her family's financial position in front of her peers. And for what? So some socialist dick with a chip on his shoulder can make an example of her? Fuck that.

Nope. I'd be taking that further up the chain if it happened to one of my dc.

I love the school both DD's attend and put my foot down hard against DH who was adamant they went Private . He wanted/wants DD 1 to board at a well known big name. I am totally against this because I believe passionately in Grammar Schools and that overall offer a better education than Public Schools do. DD 1 has been very happy over the last 5 years and is at the school she wanted to go to . However, recently they has been a spot of envy towards her from a couple of girls this being that she is (County Hockey player, predicted 10 9's and materially affluent).

It appears to some that she has 'everything' hence why the external speaker might have pinpointed her having been tipped off by the two girls about her families background. (father 3rd generation Public School, director in Southern Section of 'struggling' company). Perceptions 'here' can be misleading and not helped at times by DH's 'Arthur' type persona.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 09/12/2025 13:06

I've learned to lie about how many bedrooms we have (as I have actually been asked in a couple of different contexts by co-workers).

So, we have 3. Well-3 used as bedrooms anyway. It's no-one elses business if we have a study and a box 'Room of Doom' as well. (The latter is the dumping ground for all manner of shit).

CambridgeSingers · 09/12/2025 13:14

we’re so bad at teaching sincere gratitude for your life - public humiliation is hardly going to instil good values in anyone. It should only ever be talked about in general terms, and for specifics that’s a family discussion, it’s not up to school to tell my dc or anyone else’s what they should feel. So American…and fake. Volunteering, getting out and meeting people, much better ways for teens to appreciate their luck.

I'm speechless.

I'd not accept that wishy washy excuse either. Many grammar school kids have private tuition. But no they pick on children whose parents paid at primary level.

My neighbour retired army taught many languages for reasons he can't disclose. He's tutored many school students.

It’s too late now but if such a situation occurs again maybe say “I shouldn’t really be telling you this as it’s top secret but Chatsworth is coming on the market and we will be bidding”.

Legolava · 09/12/2025 17:43

I would make a formal complaint against the school.

strawberrybubblegum · 09/12/2025 18:15

According to this article, 90 per cent of Labour’s MPs have never worked in the private sector. No wonder they have no understanding of what they're doing to the econony.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/1643d8d4701e3a2b

I really am worried for Britain's future, for our children's life chances. Kemi Badenoch does give me hope, but will it be enough? It will take at least 10 years to repair the damage Labour are doing in their term. And that's 10 years if the Conservatives get in next election and apply good judgement to fix things. But it's more likely that Reform will get in. And I daren't even consider a Left wing alliance getting in instead. My mind just won't go to that hell.

I don't think Reform will be much better than Labour economically - they're populists, not disimilar to Labour. Just a different bogeyman. Not to dismiss those voting for them to get rid of Labour: it's particularly self-destructive to declare the people who actually fund the country as the bogeyman and try to destroy them, as Labour are...

And this is going to be a hard 50 years. It will cost a fortune to mitigate the affects of climate change, AI will transform industry and social structures, religious extremists see our culture as anathema, and seek to destroy us. Our children's challenges will be so, so much harder than ours or our parents'. Even without our culture self-imploding in woke self-hatred. Even without being burdened with debt from our current, selfish unwillingness to accept the county's financial constraints and stop throwing money away out of misguided socialist dogma.

Feeling quite discouraged and despondent.

Agreed.

And I'd take her out of that school and send her to a great private for A levels. You still have time to apply for next year. They don't deserve her - and she deserves to be celebrated, not torn down as a tall poppy. Fuck'em.

Prometheus78 · 09/12/2025 19:10

Sorry, I have been busy working to pay my tax to fund the non-contributors, some of whom are on the ‘other’ thread.

Meanwhile, the FT is doing a good job reminding us of some of the horrors lurking in the darker recesses of the Labour Party.

None of us voted for their likely policies or leadership, and even if Starmer is stumbling, we don't deserve to be led by these rebel socialists.

We should remind ourselves of some of Labour's mistaken cabinet appointments in its first year in offices as they have committed to cleaning up Government:- ·

The Homelessness Minister Rushanara Ali quit over rent hike claims as landlord on her personal house rental; ·

The Anti-corruption Minister in the Treasury, Tulip Siddiq, resigns over an anti-corruption investigation taking place against her in Bangladesh (she has been found guilty and sentenced in absentia); ·

The Transport Minister (ex-police) resigned over lying to Police in a historic theft case; ·

The junior Health Minister, Andrew Gwynne, dismissed from the Government and the Labour Party after making offensive WhatsApp comments about a constituent; ·

Angela Rayner, the Housing Minister, is caught not paying sufficient stamp duty on a house purchase and resigns; .

Lord Mandelson, the British Ambassador to the USA is fired because of his association with a convicted sex offender; .

Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, survived despite forgetting to abide by housing regulations (and paying adequate tax) while renting out her London mansion.

I mean, really.

DancingFerret · 09/12/2025 19:16

We're not being led by donkeys, but rather snakes.

I'm not sure the country will survive another 3.5 years of financial destruction and hard core attempts at control (ID cards), but equally I don't think there exists a means to rid ourselves of them.

I recall the snobbery about the grocers daughter. Worked in local government back then after working in the private sector. The gall of the Muppets who sneered at a woman from that background.

TheNuthatch · 09/12/2025 20:16

The Lib Dems didn't want to talk about Brexit in the election campaign. Now this. None of them had the balls to put it in their manifesto though did they.
I wouldn't be surprised if Starmer and co put the LDs up to bringing this motion, just to test the water whilst keeping their own hands clean.

Do we still live in a democracy? Its starting to feel like an illusion with this lot.
