A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Good morning 😁

This week's YouGov

Reform - 27 (+1)
Labour - 19 (-)
Con - 18 (-1)
Green - 15 (-1)
LD - 14 (-)

Starmer is still languishing at the bottom of the leaders poll. Labour together, including Starmer allies, are reported to be canvassing members on a candidate to replace Keir Starmer.

We were in France last weekend. In a restaurant, DH (whose second language is French) overheard people at the next table discussing the dire state of French politics, with one of the group consoling the others by saying at least Macron isn't Starmer, the UK's version of Pol Pot.

(Is it me, or is it a bit quiet round here atm?)

TheNuthatch · 09/12/2025 10:09

This made me laugh. 😂😂

Yes it is quiet. I can't speak for others, but I've been abroad visiting ds for a few days, and generally running around like a blue arsed fly trying to get ready for xmas. I haven't been keeping up with the news at all recently.

DD 1 16 Yr 11 was very upset this morning after telling me that the 'external' School speaker who came in yesterday seemed to pick on her. The speaker was arguing for redistributing wealth and 'agency' to the poorest in society. DD believes she was set up by some other pupils because unfortunately This, when the speaker asked which of you girls had tutoring or private education. One, 'trouble' causer opened up and said redange and two others went to Prep schools before getting into Grammar. The, speaker then went on to attack DD and the other two girls, asking how many bedrooms in your house and what cars their parents drive. The teacher, apparently was 'confused' and was taken back but did not intervene the bullying.

Catatemyhomework · 09/12/2025 10:15

I've been up to my eyeballs in work, writing Christmas cards, wrapping presents and generally trying to stay alive! 😂
I will read back through again when I get time.

I’ve been avoiding all things Labour in the news. Just their voices are enough.

Not sure what will happen with the leadership but it’s a bit get on with it or get off the pot.

What!? That is outrageous. Hope you are going to complain?

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/political-impartiality-in-schools/political-impartiality-in-schools

"Existing statutory requirements on political impartiality cover all schools, regardless of type or funding arrangement. This includes independent schools.
These legal duties mean schools:

  • must prohibit the promotion of partisan political views
  • should take steps to ensure the balanced presentation of opposing views on political issues when they are brought to the attention of pupils."

Totally hear you on their voices.

Why can’t they just speak like normal people? It’s infuriating
They repeat the same lines over and over. Never answer a question. Never speak off the cuff, everything is prepared and fake.

Totally controlled speaking, much like their attitude to the public - they want total control over us too.

God, I despise them,

So the subject of the speech was political with a definite slant and the teacher didn't raise any objections?

Infiltration is the word that comes to mind. Are you otherwise happy with the school?

Yes, they want to control us. It's so obvious, the rest of the world can see it.

I share your pain at listening to Labour. Starmer and Reeves are the worst, but none of them are a pleasure to hear. They’re all either nasal or dull. No Tony Blairs or Robin Cooks with this lot.

As for Starmer’s precarious position, I think the die is cast. It’s when not if. And ‘when’ means 2026. Zombie PM.

DH switches channels when Labour appear. I'm kinda keeping up but it's too depressing. I'm watching a Christmas movie a night this month. Last night was Santa Clause 2.

Totally.
I've lost all interest in anything Labour have to say. I suspect many people feel the same. We just want to know when we can get rid.

Kemi gave a good speech on welfare this morning.

I've mentioned previously that the SNP (might have been a Green idea, their estwhile buddies) tried to partially ban wood burners.

There was huge pushback as rural areas are often without power for days after a storm so they're an essential for actually keeping the house warm rather than a fun luxury item, in those cases.

Around me there isn't a single house that doesn't have a wood burner or fireplace - my two nearest neighbours burn coal. We're very spread out though - the air is clean enough that there are mosses on the trees and lichens on the rocks.

TheNuthatch · 09/12/2025 11:08

I'm also bored to tears with all this crap about what Farage said or did when he was at school.

Michael Crick wrote a book about these allegations 15 years ago. There is nothing new here. Crick was on Times Radio shortly after the Guardian presented it as a scoop. He said the Graun had been an interviewed the same people that he had spoken to for his book 15 years previously.
Crick is no fan of Farage, but he was unequivocal in that interview that Farage today is not a racist or anti jew.

Agree. They're essential in rural areas.
How can Labour claim to be 'green' whilst slapping rabbit hutch houses and solar farms all over the countryside?
