A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I havee just watched Kemi’s speech on X. My goodness that woman knows how to work a crowd! I thought she spoke clearly and with passion which isn’t something we hear from the left. I don’t hear any passion from them.

I found watching the body language of Cooper, Starmer and Reeves fascinating too. Cooper looked like she was trying to be “the bigger person” and shaking her head at Kemi, whilst the other two seemed to be cowering. None looked happy.

If Kemi isn’t our next PM, I think we are screwed.

redange · 26/11/2025 16:02

No if Reeves had an ounce of decency or respect for herself, she would resign sighting that it is impossible to do her job because of (back-bench) MP's . She would also acknowledge that she is not the one for the job the country needs.

No what we get is doubling down in a 'Angry' Robot voice blaming everyone from King Canute to Alexander the Great for the countries woes. Absolutely pathetic to bring her school into it whats the relevance of that. What i will say though Rachel it was your 'Communist' Parents who sent you there, rather than Newstead Wood ! I think if you have a chip about your schooling, take it up with your mum and dad ..

Rivalled · 26/11/2025 16:05

The best bit was Kemi’s reply, watching Reeves crow about what a great job she’d done whilst using fiscal drag to raid workers was woeful.

agree @Boohoo76 on a personal level relieved that some of the wilder c tax didn’t happen, and the salary sacrifice raid is in 2029 when hopefully, Labour will be facing the trouncing they richly deserve…

Just catching up. Will try to watch KB, so pleased she seems to have come over strongly 💪

EmeraldRoulette · 26/11/2025 16:21

If I had bothered to watch the pre-budget speech, it actually would have interrupted my Cheerios! 😂 (no I don't have them every day before anyone gets alarmed).

I hope so. Media seem to think so.

Yes it’s wall to wall on this. I really don’t know how some are still cheering Starmer and Reeves on here. Some sour grapes in there.

CaveMum · 26/11/2025 16:31

Purely from a selfish point of view I think I it all falls under “could have been worse”.

So glad racing got its carve out on the gambling taxes, though be under no illusions there will still be consequences - the bookmakers won’t just swallow an extra tax, they will cut jobs, cut back on sponsorship, etc.

This lot are an utter shambles though, you just can’t make it up.
Incompetence + Total Lack of Awareness = Disaster for the economy

ReevesRuinedChristmas · 26/11/2025 16:32

Well I'm in her lower earner bracket and she's not helped me.
I'm just disgusted by her and the stupidity I've just heard on sky live interview .
She said business is complaining about a lack of discretionary spending !! So she's putting money into peoples pockets by raising the nmw 😤...

Absolute disgrace.

The whole thing.

When can we get them out

twistyizzy · 26/11/2025 16:34

Fangirls cheering on NMW rise with no understanding of how this will impact entry level jobs/graduate jobs etc 🙄

Catatemyhomework · 26/11/2025 16:35

Well we've still been screwed over. Income tax bands frozen for the next few years is still a pay cut. Kemi picked up on that too. The higher rate tax threshold should be around 80k in today's money.

Tbf they’d cheer whatever Reeves and Starmer did.

Quite. My daughter said "at least I'll get a pay rise." To which I replied "Well yes, as long as you don't get made redundant"

twistyizzy · 26/11/2025 16:37

Ironically this budget is undoubtedly better for my family than the last one but I just can't get past them cutting incentives for pensions, reducing job opportunities and limiting cash ISAs. We knew it would be anti-growth, it is anti-growth @

Yep let alone the gap between NMW and higher paid colleagues will decrease and employers simply can't afford continued wage inflation

EasternStandard · 26/11/2025 16:39

I think it’ll be £30bn tax hikes for higher welfare lines that angers people. Hardly anyone wants the cap lifted.

Hopefully it’ll see them out.

CruCru · 26/11/2025 16:39

Oh goodness, I just watched Kemi’s speech. So good.

ProfessorDrPrunesqualer · 26/11/2025 13:52

Thanks just picked up on that 2% rise
That will affect all savers relying on the money for income. More so pensioners as they have no other way of increasing their earnings

Wonder why that one was never leaked

OBR documents indicate, the rate of income tax on savings interest will rise in April 2027.If you bust your personal savings allowance, basic rate taxpayers will pay 22% on interest, higher rate taxpayers 42% and additional rate taxpayers 47%.This is a rise of 2% across the board.

Sarah Coles, head of personal finance, Hargreaves Lansdown: “This is a really shocking tax rise for savers. If the Budget speech includes a cut to the cash ISA allowance it will mean there’s a risk more people will be saving outside a tax-efficient environment and be exposed to this new tax rate.
The personal savings allowance will still protect the first £1,000 of savings interest for basic rate taxpayers and £500 of interest for higher rate taxpayer, but after that people will face a hike in their tax bill.
It’s going to be more important than ever to take advantage of cash ISAs, where all your savings are protected from tax. The change to the cash ISA allowance will not happen overnight so there is still an opportunity to take advantage of your allowance this year.”

Does this affect money in bonds etc ?

Premium or income? I believe it does on the latter

God help us with unemployment.

For young people looking for a job in 2029 it's going to be carnage.
With NMW, employers NICs and pension changes the middle level jobs will have total packages reduced and no employer will hire youngster given they can have experienced workers at the same cost.

ETA: Labour gave 16yo voting rights, do you think they will be excited about raising NMW with no chance of getting employment when they join polling stations?

Our local playgroup is on the verge of bankruptcy with these constant minimum wage hikes. It's charity run and they can't make enough to keep up. It's sad to see. It's been going for over 50 years. My kids went there. There must be other groups and small businesses going through the same.

It will impact nurseries, retail, teaching support staff, service workers etc. These are where jobs will be cut as a result.
Obviously public sector workers will be fine!

Catatemyhomework · 26/11/2025 16:50

The knock effect will be that people won't try for promotions. Who would want the stress of management when you're only earning £5 an hour more than the people who have no stress. I wouldn't.

Catatemyhomework · 26/11/2025 16:51

This welfare thing has really pissed me off though.

The smug crowing is too much. The good thing is off mn it’s totally scathing.

Catatemyhomework · 26/11/2025 16:55

Yes, weird how on here the views are totally different from everything else I read and people I actually speak with in real life. Must be a disproportionate number of welfare claimants on here.

Idk it’s bizarre. Just ultra loyal to Labour I guess.

The usual lot going on about Starmer and Reeves doing well.
