A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The middle earners thread is interesting. Finally mn swinging away from pro Labour / Starmer. That’s the good news.

The bad is I’m worried Starmer will use the Ukraine / Russia situation. He’s that craven. The stress levels will go up. Am I mistaken?

You are right to be concerned - he’s a sneaky little prick.

Upstartled · 26/11/2025 08:32

Do you think that Reeves recognises that she is provoking people when she says that British people are angry at the unfairness in our economy? She's about to announce a raft of tax hikes on wages and then handing them directly to benefits. You get the feeling she only has the backbenchers in mind when she speaks

Meet my new lettuce everyone - I have named it Rachel.

Pure coincidence.

Morning all. I’ve been invited out for lunch by a work contact today so I shall be firmly “head in sand” until about 1.30pm.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/11/2025 08:42

Working from home, so won't able to avoid it.

Endless cups of tea and some chocolate digestives ready.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/11/2025 08:51

I'm also WFH today (thank god, as it's freezing!). I have Heart Noughties on the radio so will hopefully not have too much focus on the budget unless I hunt info out. Think I'll just pop on here.

I do find threads about earnings interesting, as people's perception of 'good' salaries is hugely skewed by location. It would be interesting to see the data about what a 'middle' earner is in each county / region of the UK. To me, £100k is hugely above 'middle' earnings. But I'm long way from London!

CaveMum · 26/11/2025 08:52

We’re probably going to need a new thread at some point this morning.

@TheNuthatch are you on standby?

ReevesRuinedChristmas · 26/11/2025 08:59

@Upstartled I honestly think they are so removed from day to day life they are unawares of people's genuine struggles.

All the champagne socialists now realising that Labour are coming after them? As predicted?
It is same on the Council Tax banding thread. Suddenly the ones who have been cheering Labour on now realise they are coming from them.

the80sweregreat · 26/11/2025 09:02

We all agreed when the family allowance was revamped. Most people agreed that having it as a universal payment was outdated. I missed out and it was stopped ( along with many others I knew ) but I realized that it needed to be done and you cut your cloth accordingly. I don’t recall a huge backlash against it at the time, but the money I did receive I was grateful for.
The two child cap on benefits is a good idea. Scrapping it now is a very bad idea , this will see off Rachel Reeves as she is just pandering to the back benchers and not understanding that it is a popular and fair policy especially as eveything else is so expensive for those who don’t claim anything and will cost more now too after all the tax rises planned.

Yep. Although it’s good people are realising I’ll take that to get Labour out.

There’s still about five batting for them, for completely non selfish reasons of course.

Oh, I had a quick glance when you mentioned that thread but I must have landed straight on one of those posters. I haven't got the patience for it today.

The most vulnerable people in society have the most to lose from it not functioning. It may not seem like that when Labour are handing out the milky bars on budget day. But this time next year, after Reeves' cunning plan to hoodwink the bond market so she can balance the books comes home to roost and means that her fiscal headroom is fucked, she - or whoever replaces her after the inevitable coop post local elections -will need to fill another hole of her own making - then the axe will land on welfare.

And at that point, there won't be the benefit of time to make those cuts in a calculated and sensible fashion. It will include covering the increase in unemployment following the hike in minimum wage and the employee rights bill, lower productivity because people are being taxed out of ambition and risk and almost nonexistent growth in the economy.

Edit: I linked to your duplicate post 🙄

More in Common voting intention

Reform 30 (-)
Labour 21 (+1)
Conservatives 19 (-1)
Lib Dems 14 (-)
Greens 10 (-1)

Not much change over the week.

Farmers are arriving in their tractors to protest the inheritance tax disgrace in defiance of a last minute ban. Good for them.

They were the canaries and people scoffed, look where we are now.

All those crowing about others being hit with taxes, they’re still going with that, I hope they enjoy the subsequent polling and vote drop.

Parsley4321 · 26/11/2025 09:57

it wasn’t well publicised the farmers was it I don’t think but bloody good on them x

I just caught a news item this morning saying a couple of large house builders are reporting a huge drop in profits.

Quelle surprise.

Rayner's immediate post-election pledge to build 1.5m new houses within the term of this Parliament have been well and truly scuppered by Reeves's batsh1t policies. Those two must have some really interesting conversations.

Rivalled · 26/11/2025 10:14

I made the mistake of watching that Reeves clip prepping - going on about fairness and how their soggy toast policies were already making lives better! Hahahaha
