Caroline Flack - she was so let down

Just watched the documentary, it’s so sad. She was treated so awfully by the press and police.

I feel so bad for her mum and friends and family 😢

OP posts:

Had Caroline's partner hit her with a mobile phone when she was asleep and drawn blood, there would have been outrage if he hadn't been charged. Violence is NEVER acceptable in any relationship, and given they'd only been together a matter of months, there is no excusing her behaviour. No matter how hard her Mum tries to.

Shame on Disney for this poor excuse of a documentary.

Totally agree.

Notrurno · 21/11/2025 22:25

There was a whole other thread on this topic OP, with a similar outlook to you. Not sure it needs raking over again.

Im afraid this is going to sound harsh but CF was the architect of here own fate, and she had no one else to blame but herself. Of course she had MH battles, added to which drug and alcohol issues making it all worse I’m sure, but at the end of the day you can’t help people who won’t help themselves.

I didn’t contribute to that other thread and I’ll probably be ripped to shreds for saying this but I met her once at a house party when I was about 23/ 24, which was odd because she was almost a decade older than me. I had no idea who she was because being that age I never watched tv (much less the “light entertainment” shows she fronted). Putting it as delicately as I can, “being kind” was not a characteristic she demonstrated when I spoke to her, albeit briefly (she actually seemed rather irked that I didn’t recognise her). And other friends I have who knew her and socialised regularly with her (someone I know is v good friends with a TV presenter - a pretty dreadful person herself actually - who was close to her before they fell out spectacularly over a job that neither of them ended up getting), said she was a very difficult personality and presented some very unlikeable behaviour.

Peoplemakemedespair · 21/11/2025 22:26

She was shagging a child when she was almost middle aged, and another partner had to call emergency services on her.

illuminada · 21/11/2025 22:27

My sister was on Gladiators when CF was presenting it and she was very shocked by her arrogant and unpleasant personality.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 21/11/2025 22:28

BlueThunder · 21/11/2025 22:21

Yes.

Also, many men beat up on women regularly and although it’s greatly deplored, how great is the outrage, and how long does outrage last in media and on social media, when the man is the perpetrator?

The criticisms of Caroline were much greater and louder when measured against the criticism men face.

She was in the public eye. If you’re in the public eye, you make yourself newsworthy. She clearly sought fame. You can’t just then turn it off and say the CPS shouldn’t go for charges or release names when you’re suspected of committing a crime, because you’re famous and have more to lose.

And people do denounce male violence. But a person in the public eye being arrested is always going to result in headlines. She had been behaving erratically for years.

I still haven’t had an answer to this;

Everyone says that the police were called and THEN Caroline slit her wrists but I was under the impression that the police were called BECAUSE she self harmed and locked herself in the bathroom.

Did the documentary shed any light on that?

I feel most sorry for the fella she attacked and then self harmed in front of, he must be in such a bad place after that and then the suicide and all these documentaries about it.

It’s sort of both. He called the police because she hit him, and while he was on the phone she self harmed, and at that point he requested an ambulance for her.

So it could be reported as both “he called the police and then she self harmed” and “after she self harmed he asked 999 to send an ambulance for her”.

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 21/11/2025 22:29

Why do people constantly try and defend her behaviour? She was clearly very messed up and had issues with drink and drugs! She dated a 17 year old boy when she was 32 and injuring herself after the police were called is typical narc abuser behaviour! Her mother is looking to blame everyone and anyone except her own daughter!

The mother also has narc tendencies, I’d say.

Thank you, it’s an important distinction I think.

By all accounts she was a bit wild in her private life and made very questionable choices. She was also heavy into alcohol and cocaine AFAIK.

Thingsaretight · 21/11/2025 22:34

Newyearnewmewoooop · 21/11/2025 22:21

He wasn’t, he didn’t even have a mark on him. It was her that was taken to hospital for her injuries that she had inflicted on herself

Well, after he reported her to the police for assault and she realised she was getting caught out.

If the roles were reversed you’d all be saying the man was abusive.

kirinm · 21/11/2025 22:35

MrsLizzieDarcy · 21/11/2025 22:10

He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital. I'd imagine they'd have soon realised if it wasn't his blood Hmm

And the CPS felt there was enough evidence to charge her with assault.

Literally none of that is true.

MissDoubleU · 21/11/2025 22:37

Didn’t she also date a 17 year old child when she was in her 30’s?

Not excusable in my book tbf.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/11/2025 22:38

Why on earth does this person still have a full blown campaign going on to nigh on beatify her?

PInkyStarfish · 21/11/2025 22:39

She was histrionic and violent during times of stress such as arguing with her boyfriend. She felt that her public image of a wholesome woman would be wrecked if the case went to court and she couldn’t face it.

It is sad as the media build celebrities up so that the sun shines out of their …….. but as soon as there is any scandal they are relentless in taking them down.

Caroline couldn’t hand the fall from grace.

Her mother wants to blame someone, anyone rather than face facts.

But the inquest report states ‘he had a visible injury to his head’.

CaffeineAndChords · 21/11/2025 22:43

Oh for god sake. Come on. The documentary has done what it was set out to do.

Sad and all but if this was a male, you’d be cheering.

GumFossil · 21/11/2025 22:10

I think it’s sad she didn’t get the help and support she obviously needed from her mum, friends and wider family.

But there’s only one person to blame for her death and that’s Caroline herself.

What a horrible thing to say what if her mum reads that. There is only so much you can do to help adults who don't want to be helped

GagMeWithASpoon · 21/11/2025 22:48

Honestly…. Get over it.

Absolutely agree.

Why so much air time and public sympathy has been devoted to an abusive woman who had been in a sexual relationship with a boy almost young enough to be her son and who from many accounts was not a very nice person, just because she was on TV, is quite sickening.

Her mother was aware of her previous suicide attempts and mental health history. Rather than blaming everyone else, she should focus on her own responsibility to her daughter knowing her as she did and her triggers, if that’s the road she wants to keep going down.

At the inquest his 999 call was provided. Lewis called the police and said he thought she was trying to kill him.

Caroline then slit her wrists. Lewis declined to press charges.

Her friends desperately tried to help her but she just wouldnt listen. No point in blaming friends and family, she needed professional help

He was in such a bad way he shagged and then married her friend
Sounds as if he’s had a dreadful time

In reality he hadn’t been with Caroline for more than a few months (max of six months from when they first met) when she assaulted him and then they were banned from being in contact until she died two months later.

It wasn’t a long term relationship or one that appeared to be happy. There was longer between Caroline assaulting Lewis and Lewis getting together with Lottie than Caroline and Lewis were together.

Caroline was friends with Lou. Lou was friends with Lottie. Caroline and Lottie were not friends or even likely to be acquaintances. Why would Lewis mourn his attacker and not move on with his life?

I think that it could be argued that she was histrionic and impulsive because of whatever long-standing mental health condition she had which was so clearly described by her mother.

In all of this, I feel so very sorry for her mum,

“You can’t just then turn it off and say the CPS shouldn’t go for charges or release names when you’re suspected of committing a crime, because you’re famous and have more to lose.”

I didn’t say that. None of that!

I don’t disagree that she was in the public eye and therefore people are going to be more interested and it will elicited more commentary.

But how many male abusers who are also in the public eye get the amount of attention and condemnation Caroline Flack received. And still receives, 5 years later after their death?

Society always favours the rare news, not the common news unfortunately.

She’s only continuing to receive it because her mother is keeping her in the public eye by trying to change the narrative.
