Enjoy the concert @cardibach and fingers crossed for you 🍀

pointythings · 23/11/2025 11:32

Have a fabulous day, @cardibach !

I was supposed to be out doing archery today. Looked at the forecast, cancelled, now it's sunny. Bloody typical.

Made apricot and pistachio nut brownies instead.

Palate cleansing change of topic. My band are performing at the National Concert Band Federation Regional Festival (Wales) today. We get an adjudication and a medal (we hope). Gradings from Platinum to Bronze are available. Bit on edge while eating my bacon sandwich…

Now that sounds like a lovely way to spend a Sunday. I hope it goes well.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 23/11/2025 12:24

Speaking of Christianity I realised today at church that it is 'Stir up' Sunday'.
So here's a gentle reminder for anyone on the thread planning to make their own Christmas Pud to get on with it. 😁

I dunno, the C of E is desperate for bums on seats these days, so they’ll keep the sermonising low key in case it scares off the racist white men.
Parishioners who give a shit and don’t agree Onward Christian Soldiers is a relevant battle cry for today’s Britain need to get off their backsides and make ‘Not In My Name’ extremely clear.

LlttledrummergirI · 23/11/2025 13:45

Good luck @cardibach

Yes, I take that as a more realistic view. It's probably quite easy to find a more sympathetic congregation.

At least two of my childhood friend's dads were Japanese POW's and were the loveliest of chaps.
Many of my family served (as did my DH in later years.)
Pics get posted around this time of year on social media and they get many comments showing huge gratitude for their service.
It is not all bad in the world.

Deafnotdumb · 23/11/2025 14:40

I managed to get to Cardiff for a concert in September and I was amazed by the speed and ambition of construction they've got planned for the bay area. Glad to see it flourishing (and good luck with the concert @cardibach).

Why, it's almost like religion is a man made thing ? Who'd have thunk it ?

There's more Christian denominations than Church of England.

Can't imagine tomeh types in the sleepy shire towns - although I'm sure if Agatha Christie were alive today, she'd be writing a novel about it.

My grandfather was at Ypres alongside his brother in WW1. He was captured and his brother was killed.

There were thousands of Belgian refugees who came to the UK. A famous fictional character was Hercule Poirot.

Who remembers how the left wing infiltrated unions by just ... turning up to meetings ?

The Bay is fab these days.
As Rhod Gilbert said “it’s not shit anymore - they’ve done it up”.

cardibach · 23/11/2025 16:12

Well, we played really well - no unforced errors!
Came away with a Gold Award which I’m well pleased with.
Now for a gin…

Yup. Decisions are made by those who turn up.

Unless you are Nigel Farage. Who has honed not turning up into an art form.

Brilliant @cardibach ! Definitely deserves a large gin Grin

PickAChew · 23/11/2025 16:21

Well done, @cardibach 💪🏻🍾

My woodwind days are a long way behind me. I remember a few incidents where I was shaking like a leaf which, unsurprisingly, made it really hard to play!
