Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to lead Labour into the next election following speculation over a potential leadership challenge.
The Prime Minister attempted to quash doubts over his future after a briefing war last week threw his position into doubt.
Sir Keir made the comments as a YouGov poll for The Times found nearly half of all Labour voters want him to step down by the next election.
Almost a quarter think Sir Keir should quit right away, while just over a fifth think he should stand aside before the next vote, according to the survey of 2,100 people.
In an interview with The Mirror, the Prime Minister signalled he had no intention of giving in to his detractors.
Asked if he would lead Labour into the next general election, he said: “Yes, I will. Let me be really clear – every minute that’s not spent talking about and dealing with the cost of living is a minute wasted on the political work of this Government.
“That’s my response to last week. I remain utterly focused on what matters to me most, which is bearing down on the cost of living and making people feel better off.”
He said people wanted to “give their kids a treat, go out for a meal, have a holiday, get on and progress, and feel safe and secure”.
Starmer is such a fool, and yet he treats us as fools.
Very few people believe a word Starmer says, I suspect.
