A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

They don’t now why it’s happening or what to do
about it. They lack the basic understanding.

When you put it like that, it's truly frightening.

Good. I think it’s typical and so bad.

Can you imagine the threads on here after next week?
"Sell your house then. No one needs 4 bedrooms."
"PIP is really hard to get. There is no benefit fraud".
"So what if you lose you're savings. You were lucky to have them in the first place"
I will not be going on any of these threads.

UK government borrows higher than expected £17.4bn in October

Retail sales down for the month in indication of fragile state of the economy.

The retail sales is an interesting one. There will be lots of people who can't afford to spend. But i think there is another group who do have disposable income but aren't spending because they have no confidence in the economic policy of the government.

Those borrowing figure are scary and demonstrate the absolute need for spending cuts. I don't think tax rises alone will fix things.

Yep 100%.

It will be "if you aren't living in a shack + earing gruel then you are wealthy so shut up + pay".

No-one I know is spending. Everyone is putting off spending, not eating out etc to try and save money.

Anyway, I have a day off today. I am meeting an old friend for coffee. No doubt we will be talking about the budget. She is similar to us. She has far more to lose than I do and will likely be extremely pissed off. In fact I can see us bypassing coffee for wine! 🍷

twistyizzy · 21/11/2025 09:36

Oh the best one I've heard on MN "it's disgusting that all these greedy people don't want to spend their money to help improve the country"....a view which purposely ignores the fact that these "greedy people" are the ones who are already currently footing the majority of the tax bill 🙄 No, seemingly they (we) should want to pay even more to improve the country whilst others who contribute nothing get another pay rise!!!

And the classification of "greedy and selfish" was basically anyone not on benefits!!

I had to bite my tongue extremely hard!

It shows what 18 months of Labour's divisive language has done though. These people honestly believe the shit that is being spouted.

I still maintain that the more punitive the budget is next week, the better - simply premised on mobilising as much of the electorate as possible, rather than the continued salami slicing, leaking, and spin. I realise that this will cause further pain and suffering for some of us, but at least it may accelerate Labour’s demise.

Ditto with Starmer as PM - I understand that many would prefer him to remain, but my logic is, if he is replaced - it will have been for a number of reasons, which should further split the party, and therefore, their ability to govern. I will take a zombie administration over the wrecking ball we have now.

The data, and the headlines, remain our friends, and Labour’s enemy.

So true.
And anyone struggling can always speak to CAB or use food banks is another one I've seen.

If we get hammered any more then I will be using a food bank. Already using Olio/Too Good to Go app. No shame in using a food bank. DH still can't get UC due to having more than 6K in bank with the redundancy payout BUT we have split the payout into 12 to cover 12 months.
So will be comfortable using food banks if needed.

It’d going to be a “smorgasboard” tax budget apparently. Which undoubtedly is making it sound a lot better than the reality.

Ditto.

I have disposable income but not spending. Rarely eat out now because the quality/cost mismatch.

At least we will be able to help family members who work, and receive no benefits and are really starting to struggle.

Spreading the pain/love, so no one group feels singled out.

Let’s see how that works out for them…

Its that response though. Its all worth it for project Labour, just go to a food bank.

No there should never be any shame in it. I volunteer at our local one. We get people from all walks of life.

They understand alright; everything they've done so since being elected is a structured attack on so-called privileged classes and the British way of life in general.

TheNuthatch · 21/11/2025 10:08

Labour promised to reduce energy bills by £300, yet they have risen, and are set to rise again in January. Another lie.
