A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Sorry to be thick and sorry also if it's in there and I missed it

Why would Keir Starmer be glaring menacingly at Alison Bailey?

Because he's an out-and-out bully who clearly didn't like her and was attempting to intimidate by staring her out. Clearly she was made of stronger stuff and refused to be cowed.

redange · 20/11/2025 20:10

I can you possible appoint someone to a senior/any role within the Public Sector when they have an upcoming Trial. He was appointed on October 21st . The BBC keep asking for themselves to be closed down !

EmeraldRoulette · 20/11/2025 20:17

@DancingFerret thanks, just thought I might have missed something

@redange I'm now trying to think to myself, when you fill in the standard form for employment about convictions, is there something on there about pending proceedings? Or does it just ask if you have any criminal convictions? In which case he could have said no - and been telling the truth.

Further loss of uk business, due to Labour.

Eurotunnel, the operator of the Channel Tunnel, has halted its UK projects, claiming "unsustainable" levels of taxation has made any future investments "non-viable".
The company said it had been informed its business rates would increase by some 200% from next year.
It hit out at the government, arguing that the higher costs were "clearly contrary" to ambitions of growing the economy and increasing investment.
The Treasury said it would support firms "hit hardest" by tax hikes and would continue talks with affected industries over such concerns.
The outburst from Eurotunnel comes days ahead of next week's Autumn Budget, where Chancellor Rachel Reeves will set out the government's tax and spending plans.
Speaking to the BBC, Eurotunnel's chief executive Yann Leriche said: "All our investments, all our plans are becoming unsustainable.
"As you know, business rates, it's a property tax. And our property - the Channel Tunnel - has not changed. It's still the same tunnel, the same terminal, the same trains. Everything is equal.
"And so to face such an increase… is a real issue for us. Because we know in rail, we invest for the long term."
The potential 200% increase in business rates for Eurotunnel is a result of new calculations by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), which provides the government with valuations and property advice used in setting taxation and benefits.
Mr Leriche said while discussions were ongoing, this could see its business rates rising from £22m to £65m.

I would like to start a thread stating: A.I.B.U To think If the Labour Party really cared about Children's Education, they would create another 637 Grammar Schools In England. This would take the number up to 800.

Can you imagine what i would be called, could you imagine the 'pile' on if I wrote the truth and said I believe in 'Secondary Modern Schools'. I would be bombarded with hateful words against me, with people claiming that I was prepared to throw someone's son/daughter on the 'scrapheap'. People can give anecdotal evidence here, not on reality for their own benefit and not for the greater good.

The actual benefit for the Labour Party would be a huge reduction in the numbers of children in Private Education. The Labour Party do not understand the difference between a Independent Grammar School and a full on Public School. The Independent Grammar Schools could/should be turned into State Grammar Schools. The left of course would be outraged with this because the schools would be fill of the offspring of those who suddenly were £20/40K a year better off. This of course would give the families much income to spend in the general economy as well as giving families who prop up the economy the education they desire. The Labour Party and many posters on this just see Private/Grammar Schools as affront to the Grange Hill type education the left want for all.

Everybody has to be equal remember. No ‘segregation’ based on intelligence levels. No no no we can’t do that.

Eta. I’m surprised they haven’t started closing more grammar schools tbh

I'm feeling more and more as if I'm living in one of Lionel Shriver's thought experiment novels.

Their policies so far are dumbing down education whilst making the private sector more elitist. They are dragging education down. You only have to look at the DfE’s latest press release to see that. Absolute children in charge let alone grown ups 👀

I don’t think he is an intelligent man, not in a way to get that moniker. You sound happy to keep it as is, this is more a Labour’s not working take.

Not sure where you get the idea that I’m happy to keep it as it is? I didn’t vote for Labour but I would like a working government as well as a good opposition. Both are needed. Doesn’t feel like we have either atm. Of course Starmer is intelligent. He’s a barrister and was head of CPS. That’s not the same as saying he’s an effective politician. Takes more than intelligence to run a political party and country.

Yeah, well we should have done it sooner and for longer.

Families in affluent neighbourhoods are facing unlimited council tax rises under plans to funnel more cash into Labour-supporting towns.

Ministers plan to cut funding to wealthy councils and redistribute the cash to poorer areas, often deprived towns in the North.

Under Labour’s “fair funding review”, if these once-wealthy councils at present charge low council tax and face financial difficulties because of the funding shortfall, they may be allowed to increase bills by more than the current maximum of 5 per cent.

Councils in London, the Home Counties and much of the East are expected to be hit, as well as the affluent Manchester commuter belt and the shires around Birmingham.

Meanwhile, councils that do not take advantage of the maximum tax increase allowed – in order to keep bills low for residents – will not have the extra cost covered by central government.

Will no one rid us of these turbulent clowns?

Keir Starmer has defended his decision to travel to South Africa for the G20 summit days before the budget and despite the planned absence of Donald Trump.

The prime minister will arrive in South Africa on Friday morning for two days of summit discussions and bilateral talks on topics including sustainability and economic growth.

But with his chancellor putting the final touches on a potentially controversial budget and Trump having said he has decided to stay away, No 10 insisted on Thursday that the prime minister’s latest foreign trip would be good value for British taxpayers.

On the way to Johannesburg, Starmer said: “If you want to deal with the cost of living and make people better off with good, secure jobs, investment from G20 partners and allies is really important.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Morning, freezing outside today, isn't it?

Reeves having conniptions today as the obr have downgraded productivity. She's sour that they didn't do this last year as then she could have wrapped it up in the 'Tories are bad' budget package. Of course the arbitrary change in window for forecasting borrowing costs fell entirely in her favour. It was a boost to the treasury that had nothing to do with skill, just good luck.
