A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Going back to far earlier (I've been up the wall with my non-work!), it's really telling that the Guardian is turning against Labour as well.

They've been against them for a while although not for the same reasons we are 😆

True dat. But if they haven't got the Guardian behind them, who have they got? How much influence does The Mirror have?

For not being left enough presumably.

I wonder if James O Brien will be finally be pulled up by LBC . This time he has called Lelia Cunningham 'Lord Haw Haw' for agreeing with people from Chicago/New York that London is a Very Dangerous City !

Who even reads the Mirror?
I flick over DM, Grauniad, Telegraph + BBC. Wouldn't ever look at TM

MantleStatue · 20/11/2025 14:43

DH looks at TM as a weather vane.

He says it's funny how they never ever mention anything that goes against their world view. The day they do- well, the UK would have imploded by then I expect.

I imagine most Labour supporters read it then? I honestly don't know anyone IRL who reads it

38thparallel · 20/11/2025 14:49

Yes. Imagine Labours exhibition.. a marquee with very few attendees. Muddy floor and a couple of stands for trade unions sign up and benefit entitlement information.

And a list of banned attendees.

redange · 20/11/2025 14:51

The Mirror might be good for some Football Stories and Gossip..

So, Mahmood is positioning herself…

Migrants who came to Britain as part of the so-called “Boriswave” could be forced to wait up to 25 years to get settled status in the UK under plans unveiled by Shabana Mahmood.

On Thursday, the Home Secretary announced that all migrants would have to earn their right to settle in Britain, depending on their earnings, contribution to society, a clean criminal record and speaking English to a high standard.
Migrants will no longer have an automatic right to indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK after five years of residency, but most will instead get a baseline 10-year qualifying period.

This will apply not only to new arrivals but also retrospectively to the 1.6 million migrants who have arrived since 2021. Post-Brexit immigration rules, under Boris Johnson’s premiership, led to a surge in people – known as the “Boriswave” – coming to Britain from outside of the European Union.

The Telegraph is bigging up Mahmood, the DM too maybe I haven’t looked recently.

I can’t see Labour MPs going for her as leader.

Nor me, but if she serves to pull them apart, I’m all for it.

EasternStandard · 20/11/2025 15:55

The headline says retrospectively are we in this is a racist policy territory yet?

Remember Starmer very serious about that just a short time ago and loyal supporters said similar.

My, oh my, some of the Guardian readership are positively apoplectic with Mahmood’s plans.

It never stops. Every week there's a new group of people that this rancid excuse for a Labour government targets for hate.
First it was the elderly. Greedy cashed up bedblockers sitting in their mansions and spending winter fuel allowance on champagne. Then the disabled, driving around in their motability Bentleys and endlessly skiving. Now, it's those evil Filipinos and Indians taking NHS jobs away from hardworking families and expecting the same rights as true Brits.
I guess there's no other way. If we didn't target the vulnerable we'd have to ask the super-rich to pay their way. And that would be awful.

Ouch.

‘The super-rich’ - they’ve really got no idea have they.

twistyizzy · 20/11/2025 17:45

Oh this is a gem:

Boris’ net favourability rating was -53 on the day he resigned.

YouGov’s weekly favourability tracker has Starmer on -54 net favourability.

Rachel Reeves is on -57.

Keir Starmer, who repeatedly called for Boris to resign, is more unpopular than Boris when he resigned.

DrBlackbird · 20/11/2025 17:58

SouthernAccents · 20/11/2025 14:01

I have to disagree with your assessment of Starmer. ‘Intelligence’ is less an issue than political nous, charisma, dexterity, empathy, and emotional intelligence.

He is wholly unsuited to be a politician, let alone PM.

Do you otherwise prefer Starmer and Reeves to Sunak and Hunt? There’s your most recent comparison.

I didn’t vote for Labour and I thought Sunak was making the best of the mess left behind by Johnson and Truss. And the DH and I were bemused to find that Hunt had become a reasonable chancellor by default.

Whilst Starmer is obviously intelligent, that’s not the same as being politically astute and no, he doesn’t seem to have the necessary political instincts. Too many easy own goals. Reeves is wholly unsuitable and her continued presence points to that lack of political instinct.

38thparallel · 20/11/2025 18:25

LupaMoonhowl · Today 08:40
see today that the ‘next round of funding’ is due to the French to ‘stop the boats’- cue a new performative ‘initiative’ to use nets. And you can bet our useless government will fall for that one and dole out more ‘funding.

Why are they even pretending to do something about stopping the boats?

Haha that’ll get some going. On the day the Covid nonsense is back too.

Quentin Letts (who can be OTT I know) wrote in the DM yesterday that Starmer just sucks all the life out of everything whenever he enters the HOC. He said it’s almost as if his even his own MPs can’t bear to hear what he has to say.

I remember reading this long post by Alison Bailey where she describes Keir Starmer staring blankly at her, and thought she was bonkers at the time but I can fully imagine the dead-eyed, disapproving stare now 🤣

Wow, brutal.

So, Starmer is a nice guy, in addition to the rest of his attributes…

EmeraldRoulette · 20/11/2025 19:16

Sorry to be thick and sorry also if it's in there and I missed it

Why would Keir Starmer be glaring menacingly at Alison Bailey?
