A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Jeez there were two chumps begging to pay more tax on a local site. Dale Vince ecotricity he of Palestinians flag waving removing the Union Jack from his building fame and Stephen Kinsella whose kid was at the most prestigious prep in Glos with my child. Fuck off you both stop virtue signalling and just crack on paying more

Yes. Imagine Labours exhibition.. a marquee with very few attendees. Muddy floor and a couple of stands for trade unions sign up and benefit entitlement information.

Edited

Manned by surly, chippy Labour members screeching "pay more tax" and "free breakfasts" at everyone who walks past.

Even when this wretched Labour government are
out, I will not be able to ignore, or forget, the level of envy and bitterness that evidently exists amongst many of our compatriots.

It has been truly shocking, and will likely remain, long after Starmer and Reeves.

Well said.

I too won't forget or forgive. Labour have encouraged bitterness, bullying and downright nastiness to prevail. As evidenced on MN by their supporters.

Yep. There’s still a few going with this. Sneering nonsense, based on what? Nada. Incompetence.

Meanwhile, I see the Guardian is trying to shake down its readers for a four quid a month donation.

Good luck with asking socialists to contribute!

Dale Vince probably wouldn't mind a few extra k of mansion tax as such - given billions he now gets from Miliband (from our taxes of course) in return for his few m donations to Labour

Parsley4321 · 20/11/2025 13:03

@nearlylovemyusername bloody awful people he donated £5mill to Labour £100k to Islamic society of Cheltenham 😳 he is hoarding a large area of land that could be developed for low cost homes but oh no he shouts his mouth off wanting to pay more tax on you go mate

That is the Labour take wrt its Denmark centre left not right wing as they’ve been calling everyone else. Or far right and racist even.

Whether it works is another thing. Performatively cruel isn’t great.

Sorry. Not sure what you’re saying re Labour take?

I’m thinking you’re saying that performatively cruel isn’t great is in relation to Denmark’s confiscating jewellery policy? Maybe not.

However, significant waves of asylum seekers are enabling the far right to exploit the situation to gain greater influence in European countries. Significant blocs of citizens are listening. Unfortunately the seemingly only response is for govts to think of ways to deter asylum seekers by portraying their country as less acceptable.

If there were an easy answer someone would’ve found it by now.

I could be wrong, but I suspect most of the interlopers are driven by the need to protect and maintain their generous state handouts.

This is unfair and unkind IMO. My DH and I are fortunately in a reasonable economic situation but both friends and family have found themselves at times relying on state support. For no reason of their own volition. Mostly because of being screwed over by vile ex-Hs who’d have been happy for them to be homeless, but some with extremely poor health.

I certainly want the state support to be there for those who need it, but I am saddened and disappointed in our current Labour govt (who I did not vote for). Starmer’s obv an intelligent man but feels like he’s made bad political decisions or listened to (McSweeney/Reeves/Lammy/Raynor) to bad political advice.

There aren’t many alternatives to replace these people but neither am I assured by any other political party.

I have to disagree with your assessment of Starmer. ‘Intelligence’ is less an issue than political nous, charisma, dexterity, empathy, and emotional intelligence.

He is wholly unsuited to be a politician, let alone PM.

Do you otherwise prefer Starmer and Reeves to Sunak and Hunt? There’s your most recent comparison.

Call me old school.

Quentin Letts (who can be OTT I know) wrote in the DM yesterday that Starmer just sucks all the life out of everything whenever he enters the HOC. He said it’s almost as if his even his own MPs can’t bear to hear what he has to say.

SpaceRaccoon · 20/11/2025 14:09

I personally think that Sunak would be a frankly wonderful alternative to what we have now - I had little objection to him at the time, and in retrospect and in comparison, he appears marvelous.

I don't think anyone objects to benefits as a safety net, either temporarily (after all, the job market is indeed dire now thanks to Labour) or for those genuinely too unwell to work, but it's clear by the recent numbers that it goes much further than that, and that many people are on them long term or permanently who shouldn't be.

However he must stay. Any replacement would be like him but much worse. A more damaging loony left self righteous moron undoubtedly. We’d pine for the bollard.

I don’t think he is an intelligent man, not in a way to get that moniker. You sound happy to keep it as is, this is more a Labour’s not working take.

Labour’s policies are performatively cruel and if they don’t work will only succeed in making things worse for those who do arrive.

A country has found a way to do it, it’s not easy though that is true. Difficult but doable.

Yes I want him to stay for exactly those reasons too. A bit nervous that Burnham is plotting his next move but haven’t heard any more about that today.

Sunak would fix the economic situation. Sadly if we do cycle through Labour’s leaders it might be further left, although the markets will remove them too probably.

Going back to far earlier (I've been up the wall with my non-work!), it's really telling that the Guardian is turning against Labour as well.
