If you are single (or even if you aren't) which fictional character would you fancy?

  1. Richard in Friends. I know he's unpopular on here but I don't care he's an absolute dreamboat. I love him.
  2. Brute in Green Mile. I watch this film regularly and when they're having dinner in the garden and Tom Hanks says Brute is a "single man" I always raise my eyebrows. He's a strong, calm presence

I should own up though and confess that as a teenager i had a years-long pash for the vampire Lestat cringes herself inside out

I was at least mildly put off by tiny Tom Cruise camping about in the 90s movie, but book Lestat was my dream man until I was at least 16. I think if the current TV version with Sam Reid had been about in those days I probably never would have gotten over it because he is PERFECT as Lestat.

Are you me? I can still monologue on how very wrong the casting of the film was! And Sam Reid is exactly the Lestat I pictured. I blame Lestat entirely for my far too long fascination with pouty pretty long haired men children 🙈

Perhaps we are as one 😂 the only slight forgiveness I can proffer towards TC is for the delivery of the line "oh, Louis, Louis... Still whining, Louis!" Perfect spot on Lestat for just one line.

Indiana Jones
Sherlock Holmes ( Benedict and Jeremy versions)

How about the Tommy Lee Miller version? Personal favourite

Do you feel the same about him in "Go Set A Watchman"? I don't think I would want anything to do with that iteration.

No, I didn’t know about this - will throw back

@DarkEyedSailor

Yes but nearly all characters of the Mummy, tbf.
Rick? Hot. Evey? Hot. Jonathan? Hot. Imhotep? Hot. Anck-su-namun? Hot. Ardeth? Hot. Captain Winston? Adorable, a dude, and hot.

Oh yes absolutely. Although I do prefer the fella who plays Ardeth Bay when he's in Resident Evil.

My unpopular opinion is that TC in very specific roles is brilliant (Top Gun, Mission Impossible). However in any role where he is not playing a variant of himself, he is not. But how they had Brad in the room and still went with TC for Lestat blows my mind.

Brad looks nothing like a vampire. He has hamster cheeks.

I usually enjoy most things Tom Cruise is in. American Made is a fabulous film.

The Great Gatsby. But only in the book, in which he looks like F. Scott Fitzgerald himself in my imagination.

In a similar vein:

William Dobbin from Vanity Fair and to a certain extent Kostya Levin from Anna Kerenina.

Only in the books though, for all of them. The films always make a mess of these characters.

The Witcher (Henry cavill's version only!)

Roy Kent from Ted Lasso. Gorgeous and I prefer the series 3 version. More emotionally evolved. But I wouldn’t kick the series 1 version out of bed.

Brett Goldstein was originally hired as a writer for Ted Lasso and then went on to be actually cast in the part. He then went on to co-create Shrinking in which he also had a part. He was great in it if you haven't seen it. A lovely character.

I am most impressed with such a multi-talented man. (See, I have such elevated tastes!)

ballabal · 19/11/2025 20:28

I always fancied Hugh Grant and it didn’t matter what he was in he was always the same because Hugh Grant stars as Hugh Grant in everything. It was just that accent though.

PeepDeBeaul · 23/11/2025 22:17

Catching this thread late...but how has Fiyero from Wicked not made it on here? The character was hot before Jonathan Bailey was cast...now however...🔥

Hamlet. So clever. So sensitive. So unruly!

Dracula, from Dracula: A Love Tale specifically. The way he looks at Elisabeta/Mina is something everyone should experience at least once in their life 🫠

I’ve just watched it and, heavens, I’m obsessed with him!

The Dandy Highwayman - Adam Ant

What's not to love? The cape, the hat, the lip gloss. I'm here for it 😁

Fictional? My exhusbands Facebook profile.

lizzyBennet08 · 17/03/2026 19:01

Clearly Mr Darcy

FannySqueers · 17/03/2026 19:08

Inspector Morse!

WinterFrogs · 17/03/2026 19:14

David Powlett-Jones, the teacher in To Serve Them All My Days. My first ever book crush 😍
Probably my last, too, thinking about it.

WonderingWanda · 17/03/2026 19:22

Is it wrong that I was quite attracted to Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) in The Fall? Saw a bit of 50 shades and really was not attracted to Jamie in that so it was definitely setting to do with the character! I also had a massive crush on Tony Soprano. I'm not attracted to dangerous or violent men in real life.

Obvs has to be Henry Cavill's version of the Witcher. Couldn't agree more.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 17/03/2026 23:08

Alexander Skaasgaad (sp) in big little lies (before we discovered he was a woman beater)

Don draper

Joshua Jackson in The Affair - NOT irl, for he seems like a limp fish of a man 🤢

Dominic West in The Affair (and irl 🤭🤭)

Robbie in Task - long hair, sad eyes, tall 🤤

Michael berzatto - the bear - sad eyes and tall

I have a type 😌

mambojambodothetango · 17/03/2026 23:12

I'm straight but thought of female characters. Catherine Cawood from Happy Valley - I'd be her lesbian lover. Men-wise, Gilbert Blythe or Captain Wentworth. Also Jamie from Outlander, as pp.
