If you are single (or even if you aren't) which fictional character would you fancy?

  1. Richard in Friends. I know he's unpopular on here but I don't care he's an absolute dreamboat. I love him.
  2. Brute in Green Mile. I watch this film regularly and when they're having dinner in the garden and Tom Hanks says Brute is a "single man" I always raise my eyebrows. He's a strong, calm presence

If we're talking Buffy, then Giles.
Lord Peter Wimsey.
Gabriel de Leon (Empire of the Vampire)
Jean Luc Picard
But also Worf.

I am female and straight, but I honestly think that if I ever met Stephen from The Well of Loneliness,I would marry her in a heartbeat. Creative, outdoorsy, loving, committed, brave, sensitive. The perfect human.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 16/11/2025 22:38

Uhtred from The Last Kingdom
Cormoran Strike
Aragorn from Lord of the Rings
John Book from the movie Witness

RosesAndHellebores · 16/11/2025 22:38

Capt von Trapp
Mark Darcy
Ross Poldark

All quite dark and brooding. My DH is the polar opposite - not dissimilar to Giles in Buffy.

I love how many people said Richard from friends. Thats who I came to say

nocoolnamesleft · 16/11/2025 23:30

So, the people (with excellent taste) saying Leon Farrell, is it because of that great scene when Max returns from a jump, she heroically skips the welcome home meal to meet him in their room, and finds that his perfect date included providing her with a plate of sausages, a couple of boxes of her favourite chocolates, and some margaritas, all laid out ready?

LLJETO · 16/11/2025 23:39

DCI Gene Hunt
Sean from Stella
Cormoran Strike

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/11/2025 21:11

Ah, I hoped this was going be about books rather than film and TV 😕

It makes a huge difference because with the latter, people are invariably basing some of their decision on what the actor playing the role looks like, whereas if we’re discussing books, it’s all down to how the author has characterised them and the power of our own imagination.

Anyway, sticking with books, I’m definitely a little bit in love with more than one Georgette Heyer hero!

Yes, specifically Alverstoke from Frederica or Beaumaris from Arabella.

Haemagoblin · 17/11/2025 06:32

Oh also book Legolas. He got done dirty by the films, making him a daft youth.

muddyford · 17/11/2025 06:44

Tom in 'Scarlet Feather'.
Derry in 'Quentins'.
