If you are single (or even if you aren't) which fictional character would you fancy?

  1. Richard in Friends. I know he's unpopular on here but I don't care he's an absolute dreamboat. I love him.
  2. Brute in Green Mile. I watch this film regularly and when they're having dinner in the garden and Tom Hanks says Brute is a "single man" I always raise my eyebrows. He's a strong, calm presence

Currently in love with Bertie Wooster from Wodehouse. I think it’s telling that all my crushes when I was young were dark, mysterious, brooding types, and now all I want is charm, sunshine and kindness. Must be getting older and wiser.

Jean Luc Picard
Make it so!

Dracula, from Dracula: A Love Tale specifically. The way he looks at Elisabeta/Mina is something everyone should experience at least once in their life 🫠

Hamish MacBeth (TV, not the books)
Max DeBryn from Endeavour
Thomas Nightingale from the Rivers of London books
Mr Darcy

I love Max DeBryn from Endeavour. Also Remus Lupin from Harry Potter

Leon Farrell from the Jodi Taylor St Mary's books.

I came here to say this!!!!!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/11/2025 21:11

Ah, I hoped this was going be about books rather than film and TV 😕

It makes a huge difference because with the latter, people are invariably basing some of their decision on what the actor playing the role looks like, whereas if we’re discussing books, it’s all down to how the author has characterised them and the power of our own imagination.

Anyway, sticking with books, I’m definitely a little bit in love with more than one Georgette Heyer hero!

Also
John McClane die hard
Baron von Trapp sound of music

Ooh yes, I loved Christopher Plummer in that.

Mine is Ross Poldark.

Lansonmaid · 16/11/2025 21:22

Richard Sharpe. The way Bernard Cornwell described him initially not as Sean Bean played him. Tall, handsome but romantic.

Sticking with Bernard Cornwell, John Rossendale in Sealord which was one of his sailing novels, he was a bit of a black sheep but a good guy in the end.

Iwiicit · 16/11/2025 21:29

Yes definitely Don Draper for me too. I would let him do absolutely anything he wanted to me but absolutely not John Hamm himself. He's just so goofy and daft. It's the badness element that does it for me!

Oooh good call!
Sticking with books mine is Rhysand from ACOTAR - hence my username.

MerelyPlaying · 16/11/2025 21:37

Mr Rochester - of course he is arrogant, rude, deceitful and a bully - but so romantic.

It's unfortunate that I spent my teenage years reading Victorian fiction, no wonder I have never found anyone to match up to my picture of the ideal man. 😀

GinkoRebelFoxes · 16/11/2025 21:45

@haveaword Not Nell's Ravi?

@HighLadyofTheNightCourt I’m a Cassian fan myself.

Yes to Cormoran Strike.

Jamie Fraser in the book and the tv series.

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 16/11/2025 21:56

Predictable, but Mr Darcy.

kerstina · 16/11/2025 22:21

I can’t think of anyone but when I was younger I would have loved a Laurie from little women in my life. I did like Ross’s character in friends and Dawson in Dawsons creek. I guess I like the geeky, intense type!
