If you are single (or even if you aren't) which fictional character would you fancy?

  1. Richard in Friends. I know he's unpopular on here but I don't care he's an absolute dreamboat. I love him.
  2. Brute in Green Mile. I watch this film regularly and when they're having dinner in the garden and Tom Hanks says Brute is a "single man" I always raise my eyebrows. He's a strong, calm presence

@haveaword Not Nell's Ravi?

Ravi in Eastenders

knor · 17/11/2025 18:31

I know he was a bad person or maybe a nicer person would say “a complicated character” but I always fancied Nick from handmaids tale (early seasons)

Cormoran strike - I second this!!!!

So, the people (with excellent taste) saying Leon Farrell, is it because of that great scene when Max returns from a jump, she heroically skips the welcome home meal to meet him in their room, and finds that his perfect date included providing her with a plate of sausages, a couple of boxes of her favourite chocolates, and some margaritas, all laid out ready?

Yes, I like a man who thinks ahead 😉😄

FattyMallow · 17/11/2025 19:45

Optimums Prime and Spock, Leonard Nemoy.

Walker1178 · 17/11/2025 20:43

This is going to sound a little weird as I don’t fancy Pablo Schreiber but I absolutely love the master chief in Halo, there is just something about the character. I’d marry him tomorrow 😍

CharlesPetrescu · 17/11/2025 20:44

Ciaran Hinds as Captain Wentworth in the 1995 adaptation of Persuasion.

The thing about fictional characters (who I took to mean book characters, but I think the same can be said of TV ones) is that what’s appealing in the page is rarely so appealing in real
life.

Edited

How true.
I fancy Dr House, Malcom Tucker and Don Draper (but not Jon Hamm)

Wouldn't irl - my DP is very kind and sweet (and young ha ha)

MamaBobo · 17/11/2025 20:48

Ian Fletcher in 2012, W1A and soon in 2026…and that’s all good.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/11/2025 20:57

Negan
Tommy Shelby
Kylo Ren
Gerault of Rivia, but only seasons 1-3

clearly I have a soft spot for psychopaths…..

upinaballoon · 17/11/2025 21:09

Lots of them, including Hari Kumar.

Spanglybangles · 17/11/2025 21:11

Yes to Tommy Shelby.
And this will sound mad, but James Norton as Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, was really hot - despite being a total psycho 😂

Snappytoe · 17/11/2025 21:21

Dean Winchester
Cormoran Strike
Patrick Jane

noodlezoodle · 17/11/2025 21:26

Definitely Gilbert Blythe in Anne of Green Gables.

Freddie Jones in Rivals (the book character, not Danny Dyer, although I do think he's doing a stand up job).

Currently in love with Bertie Wooster from Wodehouse. I think it’s telling that all my crushes when I was young were dark, mysterious, brooding types, and now all I want is charm, sunshine and kindness. Must be getting older and wiser.

Oh I use to have a massive literary crush on him when I was young.

FastFood · 17/11/2025 21:31

Fox Mulder, and Cigarette-man as well.
The german u-boat captain in Das Boot.

Skinner was always my favourite from the X Files.

RoseAndGeranium · 17/11/2025 21:48

i’ve thought long and hard about this since my last post and I’ve come back to say, since we’re going with on-screen as well as on-page hotness:
Whoever it was that said Jason Bourne, yes, ALL the competence and zero apparent self regard. Very sexy.
Dean Winchester
Dr Robert Chase
Aaaannddd…Bandit Heeler

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 17/11/2025 21:52

Lalo salamanca in better call saul.

yeahwhatev · 17/11/2025 23:31

well I agree with pp - Tommy Shelby - extreme crush as reminds me of a long ago ex same eyes, hair, cheekbones but he wasn’t a bad boy so Shelby is off the scale hotness… also cormoran strike - I fancy the one in the books as well as on screen… and jimmy Perez… so unoriginal 😂

Ah, I hoped this was going be about books rather than film and TV 😕

It makes a huge difference because with the latter, people are invariably basing some of their decision on what the actor playing the role looks like, whereas if we’re discussing books, it’s all down to how the author has characterised them and the power of our own imagination.

Anyway, sticking with books, I’m definitely a little bit in love with more than one Georgette Heyer hero!

Me too😊

Vimes will always be my number one, but...

Hugo (love a sense of humour) from Unknown Ajax is great, and I have to say I quite adore Claude too.

Freddie from Cotillion is the best.

Jugendstiel · 17/11/2025 23:52

I had a crush on Jason Isaacs but only when he played Jackson Brodie.
Douggie Henshaw as Jimmy Perez is gorgeous.
Sean Evans as Endeavour Morse but not in other roles.

I must have a thing for TV detectives.

zestyjane3001 · 17/11/2025 23:59

Someone who is confident, light-hearted, social and tends to look on the brighter side of life over someone brooding and serious is my crush. I’m not sure I’ve quite read a book, seen a tv show or movie that fits the bill. I have to think more about it.

The older I get, the more I agree with you.
