If you are single (or even if you aren't) which fictional character would you fancy?

  1. Richard in Friends. I know he's unpopular on here but I don't care he's an absolute dreamboat. I love him.
  2. Brute in Green Mile. I watch this film regularly and when they're having dinner in the garden and Tom Hanks says Brute is a "single man" I always raise my eyebrows. He's a strong, calm presence

Tommy shelby. God hes gorgeous 😍

I'm totally down with this. Though he would also both irritate and scare me!

I am rightly ashamed of this one, but Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights! Yet he's a really evil man. I think that's why the book is such a masterpiece - because, without actually mentioning sex, it forces you to confront the darkest sides of your own desires ..... Well, maybe not everyone, but that's what it does for me.

Indiana Jones
Sherlock Holmes ( Benedict and Jeremy versions)

Lan from wheel of time. Preferably the book but the TV show one will do.

Ooh good shout.

Matthew Bartholomew from the Susanna Gregory books.

Also poldark. I nearly bought my husband a scythe during lock down...

CharlesPetrescu · 18/11/2025 08:03

Guy Perron from Jewel in the Crown

Optimums Prime and Spock, Leonard Nemoy.

Spock?! William Shatner, oh yes!

Poldark is a knob though. I mean that fella in the tv show is fine indeed but as a character - what a prat.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 18/11/2025 11:11

Danny from Baby Daddy

Absolutely. I only meant the TV poldark, and just the recent one, and only when he is scything things with no top on. mmmmmmm scything.

Can't argue with that. Although I preferred Aidan Thing when he was a moody vampire in Being Human (also a prat).

Haemagoblin · 18/11/2025 12:58

I should own up though and confess that as a teenager i had a years-long pash for the vampire Lestat cringes herself inside out

I was at least mildly put off by tiny Tom Cruise camping about in the 90s movie, but book Lestat was my dream man until I was at least 16. I think if the current TV version with Sam Reid had been about in those days I probably never would have gotten over it because he is PERFECT as Lestat.

FattyMallow · 18/11/2025 12:58

No no, no Shatner. The actor is great but the character can't stop waving his dingle dangle to every female... But I do love how Nemoy played that subtly passionate guy, if only it were possible to reach him, the reward would be goood. I'm feeling like a creep now. 🤗😂😅

I have come to realise that with most of these quiet, sullen types of bloke, there is actually far less to them than meets the eye. It's taken me a bit too long to figure it out though 😔

LostThestral · 18/11/2025 13:00

Severus Snape from Harry Potter
Loki

Yes. I did also love him in that and he was pretty sexy in the jilly cooper thing too (riders?) with the moustache. I think we may have wandered off topic now and be discussing an actor rather than a character?

MyCoatOfManyColours · 18/11/2025 16:08

The ginger submariner in Das Boot
The book version of Cormoran Strike (the one in my head!)
Morse

DarkEyedSailor · 18/11/2025 16:10

Gene Hunt
Alex Drake (Ashes to Ashes)
Seth Gecko (From Dusk Till Dawn, fabulous film)
Doyle (The Professionals)
Luther
James Delaney (Taboo)
Jack Sparrow
Evelyn O'Connell (The Mummy)
Rick O'Connell (see above)
Marion (Raiders of the Lost Ark)
Kojak

I have eclectic taste.

I’m obsessed with River Cartwright from Slow Horses and have a whole private universe where I’m also an awesome spy and we are madly in love 😀 That’s tv character not book as I haven’t read those yet. Book characters include Aragorn (this is before the films came out) and Cormoran Strike, though I think I’d rather be Robin than be with Strike iyswim.

evtheria · 18/11/2025 18:02

@DarkEyedSailor

Yes but nearly all characters of the Mummy, tbf.
Rick? Hot. Evey? Hot. Jonathan? Hot. Imhotep? Hot. Anck-su-namun? Hot. Ardeth? Hot. Captain Winston? Adorable, a dude, and hot.

Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird

Do you feel the same about him in "Go Set A Watchman"? I don't think I would want anything to do with that iteration.
