The BBC are screwed, aren't they?

Are we ever going to find out who actually made the monumental fuck up? Rather than just a homogenous apology from the top.

Is this person/people still working for them?

I actually understand why Trump is doing this. You can't just let something so wrong pass by or they'll just keep doing it.

A composite image shows a picture of Trump in a blue suit and yellow tie on the left, and a picture of BBC offices in London on the right

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit

The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

Is it possible that someone on Trumps side made this happen as a way of damaging the BBC's reputation? It's in his interests to do that given that the BBC is reportedly the second most trusted news site in America. He wants media who will share his message and not question him.

My god it's this type of thinking that got him into power.

You can't chuck accusations like that around because you don't like him.

Making him out to be wrong regardless allows him to dodge scrutiny when it really matters. He can just dismiss it as yet another example.

It's part of the 'right side' mentality that's got the BBC into this mess.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, as they say.

Arraminta · 15/11/2025 08:50

It's been very obvious how biased the BBC are for years now. Remember Martine Croxall's blatant joy and happy smirking when reporting that Trump had lost the 2020 election? Totally unprofessional.

Imdunfer · 15/11/2025 08:14

Yes but now we know that a very similar edit was done 2 years ago for another program by the BBC itself, so it is systemic. They had that report 6 months ago and tried to ignore it.

Clive Myrie said on the news just last night that the BBC had "mistakenly given the impression that he incited violence", so even now they are all putting their heads in the sand about what they did. It wasn't mistaken, it could only have been done by deliberate intent.

They "knew" in their heads what Trump had done so they edited it to show the British public what they "knew" he had done. They still believe he did it.

I have read the transcript of the whole speech to check whether they are right. He didn't incite violence anywhere in it and in the middle, between the two clips, he called for a peaceful demonstration.

The BBC under Birt decided to stop reporting the news and start interpreting the news for us thicko viewers who don't understand what we're looking at. It was a wrong turn, but in the meantime they have overwhelming recruited left wing employees who are all now working in an echo chamber reassuring each other that they've got the interpretation right.

It's an unholy mess that we should not have to pay a licence fee for.

Totally agree.

Especially with:
"The BBC under Birt decided to stop reporting the news and start interpreting the news for us thicko viewers who don't understand what we're looking at. It was a wrong turn, but in the meantime they have overwhelming recruited left wing employees who are all now working in an echo chamber reassuring each other that they've got the interpretation right."

The BBC don't report news any more: they tell us what we "should" believe, according to their own liberal left ideology.

I see the usual Reform and GBNews loving posters are on this Trump supporting thread. Can't begin to imagine why anyone would support a misogynistic, cruel war mongering creep.

If you think this post is backing up the 'impartiality' of the BBC you are barking up the wrong tree!!

Can you see that?

Why would you assume that anyone who hasn't said so supports Trump just because they don't agree with the BBC editing an hour long speech to splice together words he said an hour apart to make it appear that he said something he didn't?

And she said something like 'I am gleeful' when revealing that Boris wasn't going to run again for PM after Liz Truss resigned

Here you are @ChessorBuckaroo . As you're so persistent on wanting an alternative news source, I've given one of your previous posts the 'BBC edit'.
As you're so vocal in defending this sort of thing l'm sure you won't mind 😉

Yeah was thinking that.

It's why I mentioned GB News, to flush them out. MN is riddled with these types.

And on GB News and its credibility as a source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources

"There is consensus that GB News is generally unreliable."

Let him sue, make him appear in court to argue that his image has been damaged. Make him take the stand and have to prove that.

Much as I think the BBC seems to be making so many mistakes that it is almost as if they want the licence fee to end.

Imdunfer · 15/11/2025 08:57

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 15/11/2025 08:46

You're right, they don't pretend to be impartial.

It's laughable that you think they are actually trying to offer balance by introducing the odd left wing commentator. It's also deeply worrying that you don't seem to realise how skillfully they are manipulating you.

But it's not "the odd left wing commentator". There is at least one left wing commentator on every news item and every panel. It's a bloody sight more balanced, in that respect, than most of the Beeb reporting. And a million times more honest, because they make it very, very clear that they are an unashamedly right wing channel.

More people do watch GBN these days, maybe more than other outlets so it’s not a surprise people post on a public forum. It’s not all the same view on here.

It doesn’t mean everyone commenting another perspective to yours watches it.

That's the hilarious thing, thinking he has an image that could be damaged.

The convicted criminal has as much credibility as GB News.

LilySad91 · 15/11/2025 09:00

It doesn't make you a conspiracy theorist to say that GB News is more balanced than the BBC.

It just means you've noticed how biased the BBC is.

(I personally think they're both awful - but the BBC is worse.)

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 15/11/2025 09:03

Yes and deservedly so. The licence fee payers will continue digging their hole, though: "All the BBC did was edit the speech to show what he actually meant".

The BBC hasn't been impartial for a very long time and really ought to be made into a subscription service. If you want to listen to a bunch of paedophile protectors chat rubbish all day, you pay for it.

GB News employs someone who should be a convicted criminal- Jacob Rees-Mogg for his part in the unlawful suspension of Parliament.

strawberrybubblegum · 15/11/2025 08:41

An editing mistake?!?!?

Do you seriously believe that??

OK I misspoke. It was clearly edited to make a point. I don't disagree with the point but they definitely should have been more objective. Does that justify the tiny orange tyrant trying to bring them down - NO. Is that one programme why he's suing - NO. The BBC call out his facist behaviour and he doesn't like being challenged. He will take down anyone who disagrees with him.

Imdunfer · 15/11/2025 09:05

Part of the problem here is that most of the people throwing the right wing label at posters have the image of racist thugs in their mind and need to get a better understanding of what being right of centre actually means.

But yet again we have discussion attempting to be closed off, this time about an egregious editorial failure by the BBC, shut down by calling the people who are concerned about it right wing racists.

People can watch what they like.

But saying GB News, is "too balanced", you couldn't make it up.

I edit Wikipedia and have done for years. I know every source from here to timbuktu, and you will struggle to find a more credible source than the BBC. Every single transgression, gets magnified and scrutinised. That comes with the territory as the highest profile media outlet on the face of the Earth.

It is not more balanced. The fact that you think it is more balanced is evidence of how effectively they have manipulated you into believing this.

I genuinely fear for our democracy when I read stuff like this.

Radyward · 15/11/2025 09:08

Sorry what - tiny orange tyrant who was democratically elected as US president ?? I mean what ? So 50 million Americans voted for who they wanted. End of

It’s likely very similar to the BBC. Which is why bias becomes institutionalised through hiring and promotion.

The BBC is worse if you're eager to push a right wing narrative..

It is categorically not worse than GB News in terms of bias

And no, it doesn't mean that you're a conspiracy theorist if you think that GB News is more balanced than the BBC. You might just lack critical thinking skills.

The BBC is funded by a mandatory charge on everyone watching TV even if they never watch or listen to a second of its output.

It also carries the name of the country they are citizens of.

It is, imo, only right that it should be held to such scrutiny.

The sooner it goes subscription, the better.

localnotail · 15/11/2025 09:13

I'd like to know what exactly is he suing them for? As far as I know he did say what he said, the speech was altered but it did not alter the meaning of what he said. It was not shown in the US and I doubt it "damaged his reputation in any way?

I find it all hilarious, considering how Trump himself and hi cronies
a) constantly lie and make things up;
b) defend their lies and bullshit by saying its "free speech"

Also - all the UK people cheering this shit on - come on, stop arse licking the orange turd. Grow some pride.
