Satsuma watch

WHERE ARE THE SATSUMAS?? I’ve been looking for a couple of weeks ans they usually appear at the end of October, but there are none to be found in Aldi, Waitrose or Co-op. I remember there not being any around last year either so suspect that this is all down to bloody Brexit. And, no, tangerines or clementines or “easy peelers” are not an acceptable substitute.

Has anyone spotted any? They are my favourite fruit and I look forward to them all year.

Ocado have them!

Also agree that easy peelers/clementines are no substitute!

Pemba · 13/11/2025 17:17

Sainsburys are the only place I've seen them.

Ooh, thank you! I bet they’ll sub them with the substandard easy peelers if I try to order them though.

At last I’ve found a kindred spirit! What even is an easy peeler? I want satsumas!

Coffeeishot · 13/11/2025 17:20

I saw them in Morrisons.

dailyconniptions · 13/11/2025 17:20

Seen in Waitrose this morning!

Usually mixed mandarins and clementines.

Pemba · 13/11/2025 17:21

And what is it with the term 'easy peeler' So bloody patronising. Just tell us whether it's a Clementine (bleurgh), tangerine (passable) or a lovely satsuma!

bettyboo40 · 13/11/2025 17:21

I’ve had them from Sainsbury’s for a few weeks. I get so excited when satsumas are back Grin

BigGirlBoxers · 13/11/2025 17:22

Bloody easy peelers. Some of them aren't even easy to peel. All of them taste crap. I used to think clementines were an ok substitute for satsumas, but I changed my mind. They are just sickly sweet, with none of the real satsuma joy.

I preferred the days when there were only satsumas and you could only get them at Christmas. They actually tasted of Christmas then.

It is just generic so they can sell them mixed in bulk or in the net,

Mogwatch · 13/11/2025 17:27

My people!

Aldi has been my go to for actual satsumas for the last few years, but I haven't checked this year.

I am pretty unfussy on most foods, but all other easy peelers etc have an unpleasant sort of bitterness to them. Satsumas fine, real oranges fine, all other orange type fruit bleurgh.

It's such an obvious difference that no one else seems to get. I wonder if it's a genetic thing, like the bitterness of sprouts that is horrible to some and completely unnoticed by others.

LittleMy77 · 13/11/2025 17:29

Yes! glad it’s not just me

I got some in Asda last week, haven’t seen them anywhere else by us (tesco, aldi, coop, sainsbury’s)

BigGirlBoxers · 13/11/2025 17:29

Woah now, easy on the sprout hate <holds fists up like Victorian boxer>

hexsnidgett · 13/11/2025 17:31

I've had them from Sainsbury in the last couple of weeks. Although they weren't anything to get excited about-rather wizened.
My local Sainsbury is a bit crap though, especially in the fresh fruit and veg department. Only ever seems to be one poor bloke working there.

Itbeginswith · 13/11/2025 17:32

They seem to get harder to find each year. I hate easy peelers but love satsumas. They definitely symbolise Christmas for me. I always had one at the bottom of my stocking as a child.

ZaZathecat · 13/11/2025 17:32

What's better about satsumas? Aren't they usually more pip than fruit?

tapdancingmum · 13/11/2025 17:33

Sainsbury's being the only place I have found them. DD said the other day that they are her favourite fruit and was glad that we've now started shopping there.

Gnome134 · 13/11/2025 17:33

I saw them in Sainsbury’s a few weeks ago.
Fully agree that satsumas are the best! And can’t understand how people can’t tell the difference between them and “easy peelers”.

BurntBroccoli · 13/11/2025 17:33

Got some from Sainsbury’s last week. Proper ones too!

PopstarPoppy · 13/11/2025 17:34

I don’t think it’s Brexit, I think it’s supplier laziness, they can just bung whatever they want in a box and call it an ‘easy peeler’! I DON’T WANT EASY PEELERS, I WANT SATSUMAS!!!!

Totally agree that satsumas are the best and that I don’t understand why so many people don’t understand the difference between satsumas, clementines, mandarins etc

BurntBroccoli · 13/11/2025 17:34

ZaZathecat · 13/11/2025 17:32

No the easy peelers always have pips and they are sweet. I prefer the tangy, tarty satsumas.

OSTMusTisNT · 13/11/2025 17:36

Totally with you OP, our local shops are all clementines and mandarins so far this year 🤮.

It's a one-off hour round trip to my nearest Sainsbury's but I'm reliably informed by my colleague they are stocking them 😀.

Why are they so bloody hard to find this year?

tinyspiny · 13/11/2025 17:36

Morrisons have had them and Tesco had them a few weeks back but have not got them now .

Alpacajigsaw · 13/11/2025 17:38

I love them too, I have found my people.

Morrisons is where I’ve got mine this year
