A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Which is why I get confused who to like and who to not.

Why is Starmer so different? Why didn't things get better?

Blair was better in that he didn’t go for ‘the rich’ with vindictive bad policies for votes. He has actually said lower taxes recently. Basically Starmer and Reeves are the first anti growth Labour gov for a while.

Plus Blair did ride on the boom which then crashed. And PFI off books.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 12/11/2025 09:44

I really cannot believe that a number of senior Labour politicians and staffers have struck out against Streeting without Starmer’s knowledge. That sounds highly improbable.

Acolytes of Starmer trying to please their master by going rogue, like the knights and Thomas à Beckett? Nah.

And even if it were true, it would just show that Starmer’s got no control over anyone.

Yep. Either way, its not a good look for Starmer. He has either declared open war on one of his own cabinet ministers, or he has no control over his own staff.

See I read stuff that they inherited a boom that the Tories started due to prudent fiscal management?

Then they continued with that? Had a boom due to financial deregulation, that crashed and then the Tories came back in and gutted the country with austerity?

And then this government isn't doing anything better?

Were things good "economy wise"

I paid less attention to politics then but yes it felt like there was plenty of money sloshing around.
In fairness to every political party that came after though, the rot was obviously spreading under the surface, globally, culminating in the 2008 credit crunch, and I don't think we've ever really recovered from that.

I was very anti the Iraq war so that did colour my view of Blair for a long time (still does, can't stand the man on a personal level).

Yes I think you’re likely right. Starmer would give the nod surely.

A mood lightener is Jenrick's response when invited to apologise for the AI Lammy clown video.
"I'd like to apologise to clowns everywhere".

I felt very positive and hopeful about Starmer when he became leader. Especially after JC who I loathe with every part of my being. (And who was the reason why i quit being a member of the Labour party).

AR made me sick with her rhetoric and calling people 'scum' for voting Tory. She's an MP ffs- she is supposed to be respectful of the electorate and people within her own constituency. She disgusts me.

Watching KS's performance when Sunak was pointing out all the lies and how their policies would affect the economy worried me deeply. I confess that I felt they would never actually be so stupid as to introduce VAT on fees when all coherent examinations on the subject made clear that it would be a fiscal disaster.

When they were elected I thought 'Well, let's see how they get on then'..

So I like to think I had a positively-inclined open mind.

Now I detest them so profoundly that I also genuinely feel queasy when I see him, RR and BP.

SpaceRaccoon · 12/11/2025 10:41

I was relieved that Starmer was elected Labour leader too. I thought he was centrist and hopefully sensible and woulnd't be anti business.
We live and learn I guess.

"Nor did I shoot JFK, I don't know where Lord Lucan is, had nothing to do with Shergar, and I do think that, the US did manage to do the moon landings.” 😂😂

The health secretary says he doesn't want to give the people behind the briefing "oxygen and credit".

Yes but ‘the people’ that includes the PM right? Awkward.

Yes. The lot of them are behaving like the worst tired toddlers. They were voted in to our government to run our country. Their job is to work for us. They are only working for themselves. What an embarrassment of ‘politicians’ . The worst. JFC.

I watched that interview. I was laughing at the bit you quoted above. I think this whole debacle is a win for Wes Streeting.

Of course Starmer knew about the briefings. Listening to some daily pods this morning, the briefings came from numerous different people all at the same time, so were co-ordinated. No names yet, sorry Eastern. 😂

PMQs should be interesting.

I thought Wes’s reference to Celebrity Traitors was amusing!

He said the briefings were “the worst attack on a faithful since Joe Marler was banished in the Traitors final.” and that “someone has definitely been watching too much Celebrity Traitors.”

I agree this is a definite win for him. It’s done the opposite for Starmer. People will be thinking about Streeting as a possibility and his reaction was good for him.

Yes, loved that bit. He did very well this morning didn't he. I am, and have always been.....a faithful 😂

The problem Starmer has is that he’s as much of a shit as Boris but makes out that he’s virtuous. It’s not that surprising that his employees are turning on him. I wonder whether he is a man who tells stories in which he is the hero.

He’s probably worse that Boris wrt this. MPs were happy with Johnson until partygate and media went nuts.

I don't think his employees have turned on him. I think they thought it would help him, which is even worse really.

Agree on the pretending to be virtuous.

Honestly I don’t really understand what’s going on. Starmer’s allies are saying that Streeting is after his job to try and stir up trouble but it’s a fabrication? Is that it?

They could simply be front running it.

EasternStandard · 12/11/2025 11:43

I think there are rumblings and many MPs do loathe Starmer. Streeting is a possible who either is aware of people backing him or not. But he likely didn’t brief or want it out there.

The rumour got to Starmer who decided to brief it out.

Streeting comes up roses and Starmer starts to look like a replaceable problem.

My take happy to hear others

TheNuthatch · 12/11/2025 11:49

Some journalists have been told that some Labour MPs are planning to boycott PMQs in protest over Starmer and his team briefing against Streeting.

Agree with your analysis completely. This has backfired for Starmer and his groupies, and will hasten his exit imo.

I think this is plausible.

Starmers praetorian guard decided to try to get ahead of it.

Meanwhile 10 year is up 86 bps intraday.
