A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@TheNuthatch the very best of Christmas gifts I only wish there was an advent JRM
one question that has always puzzled me why the fuck is Alistair Campbell still given air time after his attack on Dr David Kelly on Question Time ? No wonder he gets depression there I said it

Saw it and thought of you.
You are a proper wrong un 🫣😂.

I would have been a bit sceptical of the Mail’s reporting of Labour plotting against Starmer - exaggeration, sensationalism etc. But the post above that referred to the BBC sent me there. And having read their report I believe there must really be a very strong current of opinion within Labour that Starmer must go. And that it could be this side of Christmas.

When BBC political journalists quote senior Labour figures I think we can rely on the truth of the quotes and that they’re presented fairly.

The quote from within the party about Starmer being more hated than Corbyn is very powerful. As is what’s said about Starmer turning on members of his cabinet.

Wow.

I think it’s probably true and they loathe him but I’m still not sure they’ll both be gone. I can’t imagine it without even more chaos. But it’ll happen idk, I take your point about the reporting.

This is across the paper, notably also Patrick Maguire of the Times. Sam Coates of Sky was talking about it on Monday on his podcast after speaking to a 'source'.
I think this is being briefed out deliberately by No.10. Theres a suggestion this is to smoke out the plotters and warn them off.

Yes I just heard similar on Times. It’s a bit psycho drama and dirty laundry. It shows they’re floundering.

Good grief this thread moves fast!

I caught some of Newsnight just now; one of the commentators made the point that since taking office KS has made no time for meetings with his own MPs.

Seems to me he and Reeves are operating in a bubble, following their own agenda, and unwilling to hear their members to tell it like it is. Democracy is but a word to those two.

Tomorrow's front pages are awful for Labour. Job losses, benefits up and moves to oust Starmer. Streeting has been named as the main enemy and he's doing the media rounds tomorrow.

Funny that Streeting is tonight completely denying that he is after Starmer’s job, stating that his only objective is cutting waiting lists and rebuilding the NHS 😊

Following the Welsh style of government then.

Streeting’s majority is 528. I just can’t see Labour installing him as leader. He won’t survive the next GE.

EmeraldRoulette · 12/11/2025 01:04

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame will any of them survive the next general election? At this point, I think it might be a question of looking for a challenger. If there are many people in the party who want him out, they haven't got a huge amount of choice.

Dear Lord, the BBC article suggests Ed Milliband may be ramping up his aspirations again. And Louise Haigh? The one forced to resign after committing fraud?! That’s one hell of a brass neck!

Rayner must be in play too, surely?

Talk about a Trojan Horse…

Following from the previous thread where a YouTube video was posted promoting Operation Raise the Colours, I thought this was interesting yesterday:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/st-george-flag-no-go-zone-nhs-staff-b2862166.html

St George’s flags are creating “no go zones” for NHS staff, with some facing gfrequent abuse, health leaders have warned.
Several NHS trust chief executives and leaders have said that staff feel intimidated by the presence of the flags across the country, including when they are visiting people in their own homes to give them treatment.

I'm assuming that no requirements to find work means those on benefits for sickness or incapacity.

Talking last night to yet another person who works only the minimum despite her child being school age and wealty parents and ‘justifies’ it by saying that ‘if you work more hours ‘they just take it off your benefits’ / a lifestyle choice at taxpayers cost and an assumption of entitlement.

Edited

I have just returmed from France where the French flag is everywhere / no bleating from public service workers there about them.

Rivalled · 12/11/2025 06:26

Streeting can chicken run to whichever constituency they weigh the Labour vote in..the economic news is not looking good….

I got a notification at 0.55 am from Amazon that my order of the Jacob Rees Mogg calendar has been dispatched.

So Amazon have a stash primed and ready to go. For all your Christmas gifting needs.

Damnthetorpedoes · 12/11/2025 06:38

I suspect that history will rapidly judge Starmer as one of the most pathetic PMs since Asquith.

Who would vote for him now? A snivelling wretch of a man, petrified of other peoples perception of his leadership and running from his own shadow.

AlpineadventuresandCowbells · 12/11/2025 06:41

Yea where I am a few staff members don't like the megure 1% pay rises or one off bonus of 100 becuaee it affects their benefits and one in particular is very woe is me.

Yeh I’ve noticed Mahmood is always ‘furious’ about this stuff. Not sure it’s doing much.

CruCru · 12/11/2025 07:18

The thing is, if Starmer goes, who will take over from him? It isn’t all that surprising that people are plotting against him, politicians don’t really have friends.

True, but MPs have political patrons and a desire to be re-elected. Chucking out a leader might help with re-election. But conversely it might very well massively damage the party - splits, recriminations etc.

For Starmer to be ousted after 17 months of governing with a majority of nearly 150 seats would be an earthquake.

Rivalled · 12/11/2025 07:39

That’s what Starmer and Reeves have got isn’t it? That ousting them is unlikely to restore labour’s fortunes but they are approaching nothing to lose territory.

suspect Starmer and RR gambling on doing tax rises and NI cuts on ‘workers’ leaving the left of the party with no scope to do more.
