A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Loving the idea of state-organised Halloween parties in Saudi @SpaceRaccoon 😂

Here you go!

https://x.com/NiohBerg/status/1985067842182558146

They're chucking quite a lot of money into entertainment/nightlife. They have a big music festival called Middle Beast which has been on for the last few years. And WWF live is also very popular.

Apparently this was Halloween in Saudi Arabia! Saudi used to be by far the most ultraconservative islamic regime on Earth only a few years ago, but today they allow a festival that many muslims consider demonic. What a monumental shift in culture.

Gordon is one of those advocating for a hike in gambling duties to cover the cost of removing the cap.

The Treasury will need to pay close attention to what has happened in The Netherlands following their increase in gambling tax - upped from 30.5% to 34.2% earlier this year and due to go up to 37.8% on January 1st.

The impact has seen the closures of large numbers of betting shops resulting in a projected fall in tax revenue of €40million from the sector. In addition there has been a big shift in gamblers moving to the black market operators who obviously pay no tax at all.

Reeves has confirmed today she will be lifting the 2 child benefit cap

Surely it would make sense to increase benefits once the budget is under control.

Wonder how its going to be paid for …..

Let's just make an even bigger black hole, eh? She's clueless and dangerous.

Gosh that's a huge hit economically, coupled with a rise in the black market. Will Labour learn from it? Probably not.

Genuine question. Why are you all giving headspace and responding to someone who by their own admission and posting is here to goad and wind you up? By engaging with them is ruining the thread as well. They said they’d be back to wind you up as MNHQ can check. Just grey rock. It’s because other threads are slow at the moment. I just don’t get why people are even entertaining it. The phrase far right is highly irritating.

@Rexinasaurus I've been following the situation in Germany for a few years as one of my closest friends is German, and moved back after Brexit.
She's now moved to Switzerland.

Ah Switzerland, good choice. I lived there too for a few years. Loved it!

Going back to the BBC bias omnishambles. On the 6 o’clock news just now, Samir Shah scratched his nose in answer to one question about why the Beeb hadn’t sorted out their reply to the biased reporting issues, he scratched his nose. In reply to a second question on the same subject he rubbed his cheek. I may be mistaken, but in my understanding of body language and ‘tells’ isn’t this is called ‘leaking ‘ ? Was he being entirely truthful or was he out of his depth ?

Where isn't a mess?

France is arguably worse than here or Germany.

Switzerland is popular, but has high immigration (though mostly well-educated and well-integrated) and employment isn’t looking great.

Canada and Aus think women can have a penis. NZ is all flavours of virtue-signalling, and not great for jobs.

There must be somewhere...

The principality of Lichtenstein? Poland? Neither would let us in!

I'm really sad about this. It sounds 'nice' - who wants kids to go hungry? Working at a deprived school - the thing that made children's lives miserable was parents who didn't work, who had too many kids that they didn't have the emotional capacity to nurture. This 100% incentivise people to have more kids than they actually want. We don't have enough decent sized council housing to house large families - we had families with 4 kids in 2 bed flats, the kids were miserable as the parents weren't ever bothered to take them out.

2 kids gets you an extra £7000 on UC. Higher rate tax paper needs to earn an additional £17,600 to get that... And after tax rises that becomes £20,000

Really, an extra £7000 for two kids on UC?
This is madness.
And call me cynical but who says the extra cash injection is going to be spent on the kids?

The school I worked at, it wasn't spent on the kids in many families.

Friends who lived in Cologne have moved to a town the border with Poland. It was getting too dangerous to have 4 teenage daughters especially after the kettling incident at the rail station. They couldn't go ot unaccompanied. It was so bad at one point, the dads started their own taxi and chaperone rota, taking it in turns. There are a number of Germans now moving to Eastern Eurpean countries where they refuse these migrants.
As you so eloquently said Rex; Thanks Angela.

Oh that’s so bad. And so sad. 😢

And you mention MNHQ, which is interesting as the only post I’ve seen removed recently is from @SpaceRaccoon

But please do report me if you feel I’m not abiding by terms and conditions.

Agreed. The back filling will start again. And it’s definitely not for any child’s sake. Quite the opposite.

With Rachel Reeves seeming to suggest she will scrap the 2 child benefit cap, our polling shows that 59% of Britons - including 54% of Labour voters - want to see it kept in place. YouGov.

Only 26% want to see the cap abolished.

I wish they’d listen.

I really think they’ve thrown in the towel with the electorate and now it’s just saving their skin with MPs and markets.

Which means this cap change and taxes.

They’re panicking either will take them out, the electorate doesn’t feature. Perhaps knowing they can’t win the next GE. Depressing for us as the decisions will be poor.

Legolava · 10/11/2025 19:21

I don't envy the next government with the clean up.

They’re trying to appeal to people who’ll vote for them. If they give enough of other people’s money away to these people, they will vote for them. It’s labours only option.
