It’s a classic political tactic - kite fly extreme policies to see how they land, listen to the reaction from the parliamentary party, say you’ve listened and water them down accordingly so you get them through. I envisage that the final version will be significantly different.

ilovesooty · 17/11/2025 13:12

Mumsnet is crawling with racists now. Depressing.

Well kite-flying is a very dangerous and stupid game to play on this particular issue.

The racists are currently frothing with glee. If the proposals are watered down, there will be a backlash from them. Result: Labour will have achieved nothing except the alienation of a few more of its voters, increased division and deeper hostility towards asylum seekers.

Women being racist is so fucking dim. It's just supporting the entire mechanism that serves to keep you down too.

This is why the socialism I grew up with was anti racist - it recognised how oppression worked.

Yes

I do hate the rhetoric used just to look tough, there is no need for it.

Justine's new tighter moderation not going well?

Exactly - I say this often and to average workers as well. Less often than I was doing tbf as it seems like banging my head on a wall - but not the same pleasure when I stop as it’s depressing that all this rubbish, racism etc goes unchecked.
I went on a Reclaim the Streets women arranged walk the other night - general feeling is things for women are deteriorating already and anyway - sadly.
So we really, really do not need this buy in to racist rhetoric handed down from politicians. Ffs women should support ‘Stop the violence, stop the hate’ across everything- very disappointing when they don’t 😞

I suspect the new Tone Moderation will mostly be deployed against posters who are rude to the racists.

I just made the mistake of going back on the thread about the asylum seekers proposals. All I can say is 🤯

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2025 15:37

I think a lot of the racism is justified by aiming it at 'fighting age men from women hating cultures'.

Not sure how that squares up with moving to the UAE or the US

Logic seems not to be a strong point, that's for sure.

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2025 16:50

Well, that's cemented by growing feeling that Labour is not my party.

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2025 16:50

Well, that's cemented by growing feeling that Labour is not my party.

My vote has nearly always been predicated on who to keep out, rather than an endorsement for the candidate.

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2025 17:02

Yes, and when it comes down to it I will be pragmatic. But it sticks in my craw Jane. It really does. I feel like if I were back in Scotland , I'd have better choices based on how I want to vote, not on who I don't want to vote for the most.

placemats · 17/11/2025 17:15

I don't want a Reform MP. Whoever is the strongest candidate will get my vote and support and that for now in my parliamentary constituency is Labour.

Too soon to tell here. Let's wait until there is an actual election. May next year should be the first.

PickAChew · 17/11/2025 17:24

I feel the same, @placemats -we have a labour MP who I don't usually vote for but Reform came second last time and the tories the time before so, unless the Libdems do something to precipitate a massive increase in popularity, nationwide, before the next GE, she will get my support.

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2025 17:26

Now come on comrades, you will confuse our monitors with this talk about being pragmatic Wink

The daft narrative that we are all Labour loyalists or cultists isn't rooted in any sort of reality.

Same. I think I may have to vote Tory next time for exactly that reason. My Labour vote has always been wasted here anyway.

PickAChew · 17/11/2025 17:38

Sorry. I should turn around, touch the ground and say three Hail Keirs, forthwith.

The monitors have long been confused or perhaps hard of reading if they think I am a diehard loyalist. I have a Jezza mug and everything.
