A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I've done the first 3 cards. I'm onto different ones now (religious-themed for both sets of parents). There's nothing recognisable in the first of those to show yet! Xmas Grin

Oh my, they are georgeous.
I'm a seamstress myself, I have the doings for a copycat corduroy Boden dress (£150) that will cost me £15.

Good neighbours keep eyes open eh? Denziii

So very true. I’m all about Neighbourhood Watch on this thread. Don’t want a load of Audrey Wises and Clare Shorts moving in.

I like ‘Denzii’. I’ve bagged it (‘Denzi’ was taken).

I’ll be opening the Pouilly-Fumé in a couple of hours. Fancy a glass? I’ve got to enjoy life before your band of losers tax us all to oblivion.

Now you see, I'm in awe of anybody who can make clothes. I just count (badly at times!) and stitch. I don't think it takes anywhere near the amount of skill that dressmaking takes.

@placemats, the more the merrier, with or without brandy snaps! Thank you for the apology.

We can do that. Just don’t propose a toast to His Majesty’s Government. It’s a downer round here.

Just came on to mention this.

So either the Tories are better informed than the Deputy PM or a conscious choice was made not to inform him prior to PMQ so that he would have plausible deniability.

Or he just chose not to mention it/lie of omission.

Lammy has to resign.

Thanks, @TheNuthatch 🙂

In other news, Starmer's Chagos deal has stalled under the threat of defeat in the House of Lords. Hopefully, it won't see the light of day again, but in the current climate it's anyone's guess.

Then the black hole won't be as big?

There's hoping.

Don't sell yourself short, embriodery is a real skill. I'm afraid my efforts ended up much like @justasking111 a grubby mess pulled hither and yon with a sprinkiling of blood, sweat and tears for good measure.😂

EasternStandard · 05/11/2025 16:27

Just reading that Lammy stuff the most outrageous part is his response in HoC and constantly trying to blame someone not in power. Why are they so bad?! And gaslighting

It’s ridiculous

upseedaisee · 05/11/2025 16:33

I really do think Lammy should take more PMQ's he totally lost it and ended shouting at James Cartlidge. It was hilarious, there isn't a statesman among Labour. I did enjoy Cartlidge saying something along the the lines "this is PMQ's meaning he's here to answer questions, so I shall ask the question again, have there been any further accidental releases of convicted illegal migrants since Kebana" Lammy didn't answer.

Seasaltlady · 05/11/2025 16:33

Rexinasaurus · 05/11/2025 13:56

Uhm. It’s not the teachers fault. Most teachers are bloody brilliant. It’s the lack of resources, lack of funding, too many kids per class, too varied abilities, special needs being in same class and not getting what they need whilst others don’t either, etc etc etc. then of course there’s the fckwit / feckless parents in many cases. But we’re not allowed to blame them.

Im not a teacher but these issues are prevalent, in many schools it seems.

We also don’t need to be testing kids in primary schools via SATS. What a waste of time.

It is very much down to a large proportion of parents being lazy and not parenting properly. So many are not bothered to oversee homework/ do a bit of revision or reading with their children at the weekends - not to mention leaving kids on screens and feeding them ultra processed diets that don’t nourish children enough to allow for proper learning. I have lived in a few other countries on the continent and also in America and unfortunately can make enough comparisons to say that generally, the level of parenting in the UK is the laziest I’ve seen and this impacts hugely of the education system and the expectation of state schools and teachers to fill the ever widening gaps left by parents. Of course this is not everyone but sadly a large majority and I speak as a parent myself.

When he was informed will be traceable surely. If he did know then he’s surely toast.

Sheepish teacher creeping to continue my lurking and learning. Thanks again for tolerating me! If anyone has any questions for my sorry public sector ass, please ask.

Just want this budget ti be over!

Lammy -

It is understood that Mr Lammy found out about the second accidental release overnight, but believed it would have been irresponsible to talk about it while details were still emerging.

So is this a lie in HoC?

I saw a suggestion that he knew a prisoner had been released but did not not know he was an illegal immigrant. I don’t believe for a second that they don’t keep a record of the status of prisoners, so again, a lie or a lack of seriousness?

Cinnamon77 · 05/11/2025 16:49

There are some Labour politicians I don't mind but David Lammy is a national joke. If he doesn't resign then Starmer needs to sack him. If Starmer can't do that then get a woman in as PM who will do it

He was asked 6 times if any more seekers of asylum had been released accidentally since the Kebatu incident.
He answered each one with an attack on the tories iirc. Lammy didn't say no, he just deflected with whataboutery, so I don't think he lied officially.

Why is there a black hole? How did that happen?

Rachel Reeves happened.

Boohoo76 · 05/11/2025 16:51

Are there any decent Labour backbenchers that could take over some of the cabinet positions?

Yes, its not a good look for Lammy at all. I was curious as to why he was lashing out so aggressively with every question.
Now we know that Cartlidge had him over a barrel.

You see the real character when someone is under pressure - Lammy showed his true colours didn’t he.

As did Reeves with her self-pitying crying.

Ha, I'm avoiding them too. I read one saying that SMEs hadn't really been impacted by the NICs rise 😳. I just cant.

There's another one, apparently houses as assets is a sickness in society. That's it, I can't either!

Cinnamon77 · 05/11/2025 16:58

Actually feel sorry for Starmer given the calibre of clowns he has to work with
