A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I can say from personal experience that PIP is not easy to claim, and you do have to provide evidence which is regularly, and unfairly discounted.
The appeals process is really important to protect those who are wrongly denied. Its not easy to go through an appeal. Ask me how I know.

In-person assessment would help weed out those who are swinging the lead, as the same people will also be gaming their GP for a diagnosis.

Yes there needs to be an emphasis on getting the “right” decision the first time. Why design a process where the first step is designed to “fail” everyone, so everyone then goes through to appeal where most are approved? It all takes months and lots of paperwork and admin and cost.

Absolutely @MrsMurphyIWish i tread a fine line with my autistic dc - that something that causes you stress may be worth doing if it’s in your strategic best interest for work/qualifications/life skills.

if it genuinely has no value and causes you stress and discomfort - then ok but you’ve got to have a plan and evaluate.

the system for DLA etc doesn’t have good incentives - if your children are doing better, and can cope with more, their care needs are lower and go down, and often carer mums are on their own and have given up work due to tiny cliff edge for hours carers are on, and challenges of sole parenting a child with additional needs. We need to be able to talk about this without blaming anyone.

In short, we’ve got new challenges here, what the Americans would classify as what should be short term disability shovelled into a system that assumes long term disability.

The Bill gives SNP ministers the power to force those selling more than 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres) of land to dispose of it in lots, rather than as a whole.

How would the SNP prevent one person from buying all the lots?

The sickness element of LCWRA (£400 + a month extra and no requirement to look for work) isn’t even reviewed so once they’ve got it claimants just stay on it forever, unless they choose to come off it.

I don’t think it is fraud to a large degree at root, we've got a lot of working aged people who genuinely believe they’re incapable of meeting the challenges of holding down a job. that’s the problem, we’ve got to change that perception and they need to learn they can work and it’ll be ok.

it’s a tough challenge.

So a sort of mass psychosis.

This is Mugabe's land distribution scheme in everything but name and look what happened there.

Sorry, should have said the sickness element of UC.

Rivalled · 06/11/2025 08:57

@EmpressoftheMundane if you’ve been told as a child or young adult you have a disability, adjustments need to be made, every time you find something really hard like exams, someone says
don't do them then, and you look around and see other teens and young adults doing the same…and you are on a multiple year wait list for help that probably won’t be very helpful….

I've looked at the job sites for young people with disabilities for a nephew - there’s not exactly a good mix or a huge supply.

I suspect NY becomes a basket case now - such a pity.

This guy will bankrupt it with his policies and capital will flee.

Edited

Was horrified today to see on Facebook someone I know -an American who lives in London, and intends to remain here permanently, lauding the election in NY and other democratic wins - he has the luxury of not having to live there. Pure hypocrisy.
Ironically he has asked me out for a date but I postponed -definitely dodged a bullet there!!

Apparently in Lewes it is Starmer (with ID card), and Trump. Actually I believe Andrew (fkapa) won the public vote this week, but I guess it was too late to make one of him!

😂

Oof, yes. Definitely give that one a swerve.

Britain’s Boomers are quietly running a Reeves tax rebellion
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/df97eb83205820d0

I think quite a few of us are in this boat:

"Several readers have reported going “off grid” – battening down the hatches until Labour is turfed out at the next election. That’s not likely to be until the summer of 2029 as the Government will almost certainly drag out its term until the very last possible moment.
Money reader Mark Bull said: “So many hard-working people I know are retiring early… many are scared witless of losing their pension tax-free cash, so are going off grid, living on tax-free savings and pension tax-free cash... with a view to seeing what the world is like post-Labour.”
Another reader wrote that they have taken their tax-free lump sum and put the cash into several Isas, where gains and withdrawals are tax-free. They’re refusing to draw any income that does attract taxes so as not to trip into the higher 40p band.
“Feels wrong somehow,” they write, “as I am still at an age to spend it outlandishly – but I will not do so until Thieves & Co are in the rear view mirror.”
This feeling, and commitment to ensuring as little as possible is given over to the Government, is now the dominant feeling across the country. Reeves is finally understanding that people will not just roll over and give up their assets to a government they have no faith will spend it wisely; certainly not while the benefits bill spirals and there are no discernible improvements in public services."

I’m not sure Rachel Reeves is ‘finally understanding’ anything tbh. You cannot tax your way to growth and we need the economy to grow.

Police chiefs warn of crime surge if Labour's plans pass - as hunt for mistakenly released prisoners continues

Senior officers have said measures proposed under the government's Sentencing Bill could see up to a 6% rise in crime in the immediate aftermath, should the plans become law.

That's me to a T. I've mentioned before, as soon as Labour got in, I raided Last pension pots for what I could tax free then emptied them this april. Sadly I lost it all in the great Canoe accident of September 2025. 😉
I will not give this government a penny more than absolutely necessary. As it is, I will be paying tax on my £13,000 a year pensions from next April. I'm bracing myself for a NICs bill.

That's precisely what fraud is, they 'believe' that they are incapable of working because the system allows them to 'believe' it, what happens when everyone 'believes' it?
Maybe society needs to stop supporting them in this belief.

CandidLurker · 06/11/2025 09:42

Due to this government the amount that people will be removing from pensions and putting as much away into ISA’s as possible must be phenomenal. This is money that other wise would have been available to be taxed as people waited and drew it down later in life based on financial need. However one thing she may do is reduce ISA limits or the cash amount.
