Committing a crime makes you more likely to be deported - it is not a basis on which you can claim a right to stay! And someone who committed a serious non-political crime is excluded from refugee status - under both international and domestic law.

South Londoner here too and agree with you that incidents like this absolutely are not a common occurrence. I would never catch the train / tram if they were.
