Absolutely appalling. Just innocent people in good spirits on their way home. My thoughts go out to all the victims. I am just appalled.

I haven't heard anything about the men who have been arrested. It does seem unusual that there were two of them. That suggests, to me, that this was a planned attack. Generally some kind of psychotic episode involves just one assailant. Absolutely terrifying for the passengers. I hope they all survive. Thank goodness the police have made arrests. It is a very rural area and difficult to search.

Exactly right. It was two men, not a lone mental health patient. It definitely seems planned.

This incident happened over four hours ago and we have very little information about it. Why is that?

RobustPastry · 01/11/2025 23:46

This is horrendous.

Two black men were arrested all dressed in hoodies. That is a fact. Witnesses did not report chanting or arguing between fans. Football fans don't carry knives and randomly stab innocent people. This is likely terrorism again. The country is getting more and more unsafe, and is becoming a very unpleasant place to live.

Rubbish. Black men can be football fans too.

JHound · 01/11/2025 23:48

How awful for the victims and those that were a witness to this.

I hope it’s not another “care in the community” case as so many of these are.

Scary either way.

Presumably the police are trying to work out if there's anyone else involved.

Why ask Starmer? What does he have to do with it?

I don't think that's fair. The police know they need to be quick because of disinformation. The suspects may be refusing to cooperate so the police will have to look through homes, computers, phones etc.

They need to be 100% certain if it isn't terror related because if something comes out later they will be ripped apart.

Harassedmum123 · 01/11/2025 23:49

Eyewitness reports say it was two black men so not sure why people are still arguing that it’s not the case.

Do we? Have you notified the police of your information seeing as you appear to know more than anyone else right now?

Let’s just wait and see….

This story has barely broken and the 'Don't Look Back in Anger' media management strategy has already kicked in.

What does that mean?

Violinist64 · 01/11/2025 23:50

I am in a taxi on my way home with my disabled son. We should have been at Peterborough Station over two hours ago. We were on a train behind the one where the incident occurred. We were stuck in a place called Arlesey, which I believe is in Bedfordshire, for a long time until the decision was made for us to cross the platform and take the southbound train to Hitchin, whereupon we would have taxis and coaches to take us home. I have to say that the train driver, police and railway personnel were all very professional friendly and efficient. We were very inconvenienced and the thought of how much money this will have cost is horrendous but, of course this all pales into insignificance in comparison with the victims of the stabbings and those poor people who will be traumatised by witnessing such a dreadful thing, including the train driver and railway staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Oh ok that changes everything. It sound like all the hallmarks of somebody having a psychotic attack but unlikely if it was two / multiple people involved.

Wren Chambers first Wren Chambers first became aware that something was amiss when a man bolted down the carriage with a bloody arm, saying "they've got a knife, run".

Swiftasthewind · 01/11/2025 23:48

Ofcourse but not in hoodie and masks. If it was football fans, it would be released by now. The whole train would know that an argument ensued. It didn't.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 23:51

It's hardly a new thing. It's sadly a regular occurance in south London.

As a born & raised south Londoner it isn't a regular occurrence for multiple people to get stabbed.

we’ve never had governments actively trying to censor information. Nope. Nothing to see here….

If they were fans travelling it’s likely they would have been wearing a football top. Why are we talking about football fans anyway? The train was from Doncaster

Harassedmum123 · 01/11/2025 23:52

@Violinist64sorry to hear that your journey with your son has been disrupted. Please get a receipt for your taxi journey. I travel with LNER regularly and they are excellent in dealing with compensation due to travel delays.

catownerofthenorth · 01/11/2025 23:52

A train that size may have 500 or more people on it. They need to evacuate the wounded and then work through everybody else making sure they’ve got all involved. It will take time. Plus if people are dead they need to tell their families.

It means the prime concern of the government and media right now is managing the public response to the incident.

Spookyspaghetti · 01/11/2025 23:53

youalright · 01/11/2025 23:20

Its all over social media with videos from people who are there

Unless you’d like to see your relatives getting stabbed on Socials you should probably report those videos and get them taken down.
