It’s been reported an older man with gashes to his head and neck tried to protect a young girl who was being attacked 😭 this is simply dreadful. Normal people going about their business should not be in fear of being murdered. The attackers will get 3 square meals a day. Cost the tax payers millions and will always be a risk to our society. If they are immigrants we really need to speak up now collectively and say enough. People need properly vetting to enter this country. We need to know who they are and what they are about. I want my children to be safe they all get on trains regularly.
its reported they costs of illegally entering this country with no paperwork is £1000s but with the paperwork you can get on a wizz air flight for £50. People enter illegally so we don’t know who they are or where they are from. This has to stop

I unfortunately do not have the answer to these questions.

I personally simply wish the UK and its residents the very best — which obviously includes a competent Prime Minister who won’t fudge, evade, or simply offer platitudes.

That’s why I certainly won’t be rooting for the PM to fail. And it’s not as if the last few Prime Ministers did such a splendid job either.
It seems Starmer has been handed an already leaking ship, so let’s hope he doesn’t let it sink on his watch.

If Starmer was handed a ‘sinking ship’ then why did he take on the job?

Why did he promise to ‘smash the gangs’ ad nauseum?

Was he ‘mistaken’ or did he lie? Which is it?

I, for one, will be praying for Zohran Mamdani's auntie. Even though she wasn't on the train and wasn't stabbed, she's the real victim in all this.

WTAF! You're obviously a dedicated Islamaphobe to shoehorn this utter irrelevant and disrespectful nonsense into this thread. Zohran Mamdani is running for New York Mayor so how on earth is this relevant to a knife attack in the UK unless you are just on high alert for opportunities to bash innocent Muslims.

OK, thank you

  1. redesign on kitchen knives to make safe versions that cannot be used as weapons and ONLY sell these, pretty sure someone has already designed this

You can't redesign a knife designed to cut dead raw meat so that it won't cut live raw meat.

Namechangey23 · 02/11/2025 08:27

I agree, reform would be a catastrophe as they have no useful policies on anything else or idea how to run a government. But that's what's coming unless action is taken by the present government on this issue which affects us all. Of course there is empathy for the victims, in could have been any of us and my prayers and thoughts to them and their families, I hope they all pull through and are able to find some peace from the mental trauma this incident will have caused, let alone the physical. The man who tried to protect the girl is nothing short of a hero and the sort of spirit which has previously made us proud to be British. But empathy alone will not protect more people from being hurt. This isn't the first nor the last time it will happen. Decisive action to prevent this is what is needed.

  1. harsher sentencing on knife possession and illegal weapon distributers.
  2. greater police powers stop and search.
  3. more police
  4. greater public security measures and screening in public places and public transport.
  5. stricter controls on knife sale and possession, crack down on black markets.
  6. redesign on kitchen knives to make safe versions that cannot be used as weapons and ONLY sell these, pretty sure someone has already designed this
  7. better education particularly of at risk groups and understanding of causes of knife crime
  8. tackle gang culture, provide better facilities for youths, prosecute parents of children involved in knife crime.
  9. better mental health care and identification of those at risk, better communication and flagging to security services
  10. deradicalisation programs and deporting of non-british citizens involved in any criminal activities or behaviours.

Any other suggestions?

All of this will involve considerable expenditure, of course, at a time when Britain is already struggling with the bank balance and crumbling infrastructure and services. This is not simply a labour or conservative problem to solve, it's bigger than any political party. It's a British problem to solve and is going to take more than one administration, probably a good 10 to 15 years even if drastic action is taken now.

When something is not working, what is the first thing you do?

You stop whatever it is that you are currently doing.

You then pause, reflect, and work up solutions.

The last thing you do is to carry on with whatever is not working.

Why on earth have you assumed the perpetrators are anything to do with illegal immigration? Nothing has been said about that anywhere.

The lady that was killed by the asylum seeker was stabbed with a screwdriver. They will always find something to use.

Ohnonotanotheronee · 02/11/2025 08:34

I come from a ‘hotel’ village. When I grew up there, the immigrants were hard working and contributed like the rest of the adults. Most people went to work. It was a bit rough around the edges and working class, but a decent community.
I go back to visit a few times a year and the change is vast.
I was staying with family opposite the hotel during the protests and quite honestly, felt sorry for the mums. They just want a safe place for their kids to grow up. The hotel is next to a park and opposite a primary school.
This used to be an airport hotel that no-one envisaged would turn into a hotel full of immigrant men. I like to visit, but was grateful to get home to my safe place(for how long I don’t know.)
To the posters who are bending over backwards to call out the ‘racists’ some people are currently living in a community that doesn’t feel safe to them anymore - including immigrants with good intent.

FGS - a hatchet or other makeshift weapon can deliver similar injuries.

Have you ever seen a hatchet injury? I have - and they are truly dreadful - what they can do to tissue.

Livelovebehappy · 02/11/2025 08:35

The fact that the police have not released the ethnicity of the perpetrators tells us all we need to know. They use a tactic of shouting from the rooftops if it’s a white British attacker. But the silence is always deafening - tumbleweed - when the suspects are none white. Problem being that it doesn’t help the situation, because people will then start to make assumptions, and that’s how riots start. The government are going to have to start getting a grip on this, and quickly. This sort of thing is now happening too frequently, the result of thinking that people choosing to came here to live love us and want to live amongst us, when quite often they’re fleeing after committing heinous crimes in their own countries, coming having ‘lost’ documents, and trying to escape trial and punishment in the country they’re escaping from. And here we are…..

Listen.

You ask a lot of questions without providing answers yourself, so I will indulge you one more time.

No, but you need the space around you to make the correct decision i.e. when you are not under pressure, and the emotion and ‘noise’ has been mitigated.

The last thing you do is carry on regardless.

SpaceRaccoon · 02/11/2025 08:37

There aren't enough eyerolls for "redesign kitchen knives".
All you then need to do is go to aby DIY, gardening or agricultural shop and you'll find a plethora of implements that can inflict death and severe injury.

Guildford321 · 02/11/2025 08:37

3IATLAS · 02/11/2025 08:23

the root cause here is knives. We make such a big deal of not being like the US with shootings yet we have a knife problem that’s just as bad. I don’t know how it would be dealt with but it needs to be and we need to have the police out there protecting the public in real time

The root cause is not knives. Knives are inanimate objects. It's the hands they're in. Always men for a start, regardless of ethnicity/culture/background/religion. It takes far more critical analysis to look at root causes.

Maintaining culture cohesion is just too important. We’ve seen what happened with regards to other cases. Nobody likes being lied to I understand that, but do you want potential protests and riots? Do you want a Reform government?

….. but we don’t have cultural cohesion … that is why we have a problem with extremism / terrorism ….

Yes but if the only knives that can cause major injury are illegal or homemade then that's less knives easily available to cause harm and then crack down on the illegal suppliers. Guns are easily available in America and looks how much gun crime they have. Knives are easily available in the UK....go figure. You've focused on one of my 10 possible solutions, do you agree with any of the rest?

Nolletimiere · 02/11/2025 08:39

And, btw, let’s hope that this mendacious government does not try to bury the ongoing Reeves scandal this week.

Disrespectful? No. Plausible, yes.

I trust that the DM will continue to chase it down.

Those are a niche product designed for extremely safety conscious households. You won't find a chef or a butcher deboning a pig carcass with one of those. Preparing food from scratch (as opposed to buying neatly filleted chicken, for example) often needs a pointed knife, you have to dig the point in to get a start point.

I think you'll also find thar many blade assaults are done with a machete, which is blunt, so even those aren't going to stop knife crime.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 02/11/2025 08:39

It’s blowing my mind how many posters are terrified of riots to the point they’re ok with knife attacks on trains and kids’ dance classes…
