And if Starmer fudges, or evades, or does nothing except dish out platitudes, then what?

What are the consequences? IF, this is proven to have been the work of fundamentalists, how many innocent people must die before the government of the day act?

Again - what do you want Starmer to do???

We think it’s a terror attack and there’s a photo floating round of attackers. Think the news is updating

We were on a train with DS last week, there was a drunk bloke in our carriage. DH thought I was overreacting by moving ds from the aisle to the window. I felt like we were really vulnerable and it was the only thing I could do really as there's nowhere to run or hide if anything kicks off really.

they haven’t said where these people got on the train yet possibly at Doncaster.

i honestly believe they should stop selling alcohol on these trains - may not have any connection with this incident but drunks on train are a nuisance at times.

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 02/11/2025 08:00

No you didn’t 🙄

Yes I did. I live in a seaside town that has had machete fights in broad daylight and regular knife battles. I’ve seen gangs get on and off the train and have fostered children who have been involved in county lines so it’s where my mind immediately went when I heard this

What I’m not understanding is why colour auto means they are an Islamist terrorist or being white rules it out
There is some people literally only going about knowing the colour of their skin.

Well it's not how my mind works but can't you see it's how the minds of people who will riot work?

Also, please point me at the last time we had a white Islamic terror operation in this country or a non white one which was other than Islamic? I lived through the white ones and I can tell you that the racism against the Irish at the time was extreme.

I immediately thought this was a county lines fight when I heard about it. Non stop train going to Kings Cross. We have massive county line gangs issues in our area with the gangs travelling down from London. Anyway, we shall see.

Don't gangs usually stab other gang members not innocent, random train passengers?

Trying81 · 02/11/2025 08:11

Over the last couple of months there’s been a number of train / tube stations evacuated - I read about the ones local to me on X and then the algorithm showed me more as they happened.

My first thought was that there was intelligence / chatter about train stations - but trains are far worse, no escape. Absolutely horrific for those involved

Bunnycat101 · 02/11/2025 08:11

You have to worry that there are people so filled with hate that their solution is to just stab people. I can’t imagine how traumatic it will have been for victims and witnesses especially as they were stuck with the train presumably pelting it to a station where it can stop and not knowing when help might come. I also feel sorry for the driver - I can’t imagine what it must have been like for him/her knowing people were being attacked and having to keep driving to somewhere safe for emergency services to access.

If this is immigration related then I think there will be wider ramifications whether that be adding further fuel to Reform or counter violence. I don’t think you can legitimately blame some of the issues facing the country on a government that has been in power for a year but Starmer will be under some pressure from his own party. His party conference speech was all about Reform which was quite telling.

HelenaWaiting · 02/11/2025 08:12

There's no need to stop the boats. Stop the abuse of the asylum system. Turn asylum claims around in 14 days. If unsuccessful, you're on the next plane home. No right of appeal. If you arrive without papers, straight into jail with you until you remember where you are from.

I have known many over the years been stabbed by gangs who were not in gangs mind you the 2 closest to me were black so people would assume otherwise.
one was in a bus station
the other on a quite street whilst he went to get his mum milk from the corner shop.
they were both innocent and that’s only 2 people I directly know personally.

EsmaCannonball · 02/11/2025 08:14

In the past few days I've been thinking about the charge that objection to mass immigration and asylum seekers is racist. It's true we feel ashamed we didn't offer more asylum to Jews fleeing the Nazis or that our attitude to Ukrainian refugees was more welcoming, even if the actual scheme involved the Ukrainians having to find their own sponsor and fighting age men not being included. However, in the case of Jewish people in occupied Europe, or the Ukrainians or, for example, Indians fleeing Amin's Uganda, it was easy to identify who those people were and clear that they were the victims of the situation, even if not all perfect as people.

The problem with the current system is that it actively encourages young, fit, crime-affiliated males to game it; we have no way of establishing who these men truly are, which country they are actually from or even what age they are (and a seeming lack of curiosity to find out); and, if people are coming from places such as Sudan, Afghanistan or Syria, there seems to be no way to establish if they are fleeing persecution or one of the cohort from those countries who have turned them into barbarous hell-holes and would like to financially or spiritually benefit from doing a bit of the same here. We have a system that is attracting the people who are making their birth countries unliveable.

Better start building a lot more prisons and magically make sure all countries will accept failed asylum seekers including those with no means of air travel from the UK

The boats most definitely need to stop.

FrenchFancie · 02/11/2025 08:16

For god sake people - this is why riots happen.

there are absolutely zero confirmed reports of the attackers nationality, religion or immigration status. Yet so many on here are foaming at the mouth about immigrants and islamists.

just bloody wait for the police to do their work. Stop getting yourselves all wound up until you know the truth about what has happened.

3IATLAS · 02/11/2025 08:16

Definitely time for the police to be sorted out with a constant public presence rather than having to respond wasting vital minutes. Local to me there’s always lots of events at cafes with police for community stuff or they are in Costa . They need to get back out there I never see a police officer anywhere other than cafes !

Yes. Which is why this will provoke terror, the thought of being stuck on a train with this. It makes people afraid of daily life stuff.

ImSeRa · 02/11/2025 08:17

I’m sorry but the FIRST thing I thought was ‘Deranged Muslim Radicals’ and no it doesn’t make anyone a bigot to state the obvious. We have a real problem in the West that needs to be sorted asap.

Nolletimiere · 02/11/2025 08:17

jasflowers · 02/11/2025 08:06

Again - what do you want Starmer to do???

I will tell you a first step - let’s have your response to it.

To stop trying to silence people, and their legitimate concerns about what is happening in this country.

Many of us want to know that our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, husbands and wives are able to live without fear of being stabbed to death by someone who evidently hates us. We want the information, so that we can make an informed decision - not so it can be retrained by a government, incapable or unwilling to act, for the purposes of ‘social cohesion’ - more likely because it offends a section of their core voter base.

How about they stop taking us for fools?

That’s what I want as a first step - an admission that we have a problem.

And this is said, irrespective of the outcome of last night’s terrible attack - just to be clear.

jasflowers · 02/11/2025 07:45

Don't disagree but what happens when a dinghy refuses to stop or deliberately sinks itself? or a migrant cannot be deported because the country of origin refuses to accept them? or we have no means of travel there?

1000s of died trying to cross the med, some boats sunk deliberately, still they keep coming.

Plus of course we have no idea if the 2 arrested are asylum seekers or 3rd gen british, we know v little

A compound. They shouldn’t be free to walk around our streets within hours of illegally entering.

I unfortunately do not have the answer to these questions.

I personally simply wish the UK and its residents the very best — which obviously includes a competent Prime Minister who won’t fudge, evade, or simply offer platitudes.

That’s why I certainly won’t be rooting for the PM to fail. And it’s not as if the last few Prime Ministers did such a splendid job either.
It seems Starmer has been handed an already leaking ship, so let’s hope he doesn’t let it sink on his watch.
