So much unnecessary and misleading speculation going on here. Let the police investigate.

Like what?

Indeed. And how does that poster decide what is “misleading”, unless part of the investigative team and in possession of more information that the rest of us random MNetters?

Whippetwonder · 02/11/2025 06:07

What's the latest update ,I'm in bed so can't put the news on ,will wake DH .
Is it a terrorist attack

What the actual fuck are you talking about?

Firstly, they are not called LABOUR, they are called THE GOVERNMENT and will be your government for the next four years, because that's how democracy works, however much you cry about it. Labour won, it's about time you got over it.

Secondly, there has been no official statement.

Thirdly, why are so many on here trying to maximise the incident and spread misinformation?

it’s a LABOUR government and nobody is spreading misinformation. They might be spreading information you’d rather they didn’t, but it’s not misinformation if it’s interviews with actual witnesses.

merkinmanipulator · 02/11/2025 06:10

I don't believe for a second that anyone saw this news story and their first thought was 'football hooligans'.

Correct.

It’s a Labour government, and I disagree with the PP that they will necessarily remain in power until the end of this parliament, but that’s not the topic of this thread.

Their polling is on the floor, with Starmer deeply unpopular, and Reeves about to get the boot after the budget later this month - which will prove a catastrophe.

Newcastle are away to West Ham tomorrow. My first thought was that it could possibly be football related.

That’s weird & quite a stretch

later on on a Saturday, pissed up, coked up football fans will do a lot

Absolutely but stabbing multiple people? Quite unusual even for football fans.

But the Newcastle match is today

MN is utterly bizarre at times. So many, so desperate to down play, remove blame from those responsible. All those people on that train stabbed and terrorised as they go about their lawful daily business, people & families who will never be the same again and yet there are multiple MNetters whose absolute first priority is to try to assign blame elsewhere - football fans 🙄 ffs. It’s completely disgusting tbh. Where is the anger and pain that your fellow country men and women are being attacked in this way? Why is your first priority to protect those who are committing these acts? Absolutely baffles me.

I have assumed for some time that there are posters whose job it is to deflect/lecture/shut down dissent/support certain causes on a range of topics that are discussed on Mumsnet. The scolds who pop up within minutes of a new thread starting. I don’t even find it surprising any more. Maybe some are from government agencies. Some might be PR people. Some might be from foreign agencies or governments causing mischief and dissent. Who knows who these posters are. 🤷‍♀️

Like the Southport stabbings, you can also bet on the colour of the victims.

This would not suprise me at all. The lack of empathy from these posters to anything but their chosen protected groups is sickening.

Oh I know exactly what you mean, and I was beginning to come to that conclusion myself, with the same names popping up with the same rhetoric you mention.

SulkySeagull · 02/11/2025 06:31

@luckylavender are you purposefully playing dumb? We know who the perps will be, and it won’t be football fans.

merkinmanipulator · 02/11/2025 06:35

It's like how in the 2000s and early 2010s whenever there was a terrorist attack in the UK there'd always be someone going 'we don't know who it was!!! It could have been ETA!', as if Basque separatists in 2007 were likely to be found blowing up trains in London.

jasflowers · 02/11/2025 06:36

Nestingbirds · 02/11/2025 05:08

A few posts in, and one of the posts said they hoped it wasn’t a terrorist incident as it will fuel more hatred. I am astonished by the mind bending of that post.

What is fuelling anger is the total lack of security and control in this country. If this is another example, then surely the answer is for the government to find their back bone and start to take serious and meaningful action.

Serious Action.... Like what?

We don't know what the ethnic origins of the 2 arrested are, when they came here, whether they are British citizens, born in the UK ....

Its all speculation.

You've been drinking the Reform propaganda kool aid - the early election thing is a regular theme and it's utter bollocks. Just because the last Tory government shit show went to the polls every five minutes, doesn't mean Labour will. And people don't actually hate Starmer, in the real world. Twitter bots might make you think he's the devil incarnate, but most of my friends and family think he's a decent, intelligent man.

This could just add easily happened under the Tory government. No laws have changed so much in a year that would have reduced security.

Quite so.

They have a clear agenda - deflection, obstruction, obfuscation, gaslighting etc.
It’s all rather transparent.

The same old names, too.

a decent intelligent man?
Literally no one is buying that line anymore…they’ve run out of road and he will be remembered as possibly the worst PM in history.
But nice try.

merkinmanipulator · 02/11/2025 06:40

I say the above obviously not knowing who the perpetrators of the attack last night were - they possibly could have been football fans, or Zizians, or locals angry they hadn't won best Victoria Sponge at the Huntingdonshire county show. But they probably weren't, were they? Looking at similar attacks in the country in recent years, they were more likely to be some combination of Islamic terrorists (homegrown or not or mentally ill drug addicts. If the crime had been a woman and her children being murdered by a man known to them, I would have adjusted my prediction accordingly, and same if it had been a bunch of teenagers attacking each other in a seaside town centre. Everyone can recognise patterns.

Swiftasthewind · 01/11/2025 23:56

Maintaining culture cohesion is just too important. We’ve seen what happened with regards to other cases. Nobody likes being lied to I understand that, but do you want potential protests and riots? Do you want a Reform government?

The fastest way for that to happen is for the police to lie.

they absolutely cannot release false statements about who the perpetrators are and hope that the general public will have any kind of faith in them (already at a low) going forward. That would just make policing very difficult going forward.

the statements need to be factually true and released when it's appropriate.

Yes yes of course…
Thats why official figures are bursting with Starmer’s popularity.
I don’t know about you claiming someone else has been drinking the kool aid when you clearly have.
