Two have been arrested but I can only see eyewitness reports (so far) of one man with a knife. I've not seen anything about the nature of the second man's involvement.

The attack started shortly after the train left Peterborough, Google maps says the train journey from there to Huntingdon takes 40 minutes. I can't even imagine what that was like for the people on the train.

It definitely doesn't take forty minutes, around ten. It's only 45 minutes from Peterborough to London (on the non stopping train).

Google is factoring in the current closure.

BIossomtoes · 02/11/2025 00:50

That’s because it hasn’t. Nor has any description of the arrested men been released.

There was a witness on Sky News who has said that the men who were stabbing people on the train were black.

Something definitely needs to be done or Reform are definitely going to win the next election. Why can't Labour see that? Why do they continually try and minimise what is happening? Why don't they actually do something about it?

I think they will (and need to - we are becoming so polarised).

I think once the budget is out of the way there will be changes.

I dont know what but we cant continue like this.

I am a regular commuter (tube and overground) this is one of my worst fears.

What the actual fuck are you talking about?

Firstly, they are not called LABOUR, they are called THE GOVERNMENT and will be your government for the next four years, because that's how democracy works, however much you cry about it. Labour won, it's about time you got over it.

Secondly, there has been no official statement.

Thirdly, why are so many on here trying to maximise the incident and spread misinformation?

To be fair there was a lot of anxiety about travel on public transport after the London bombings. This is obviously much smaller but it’s understandable. I catch trains to and from Huntingdon station frequently and it’s rattled me.

I appreciate that it's normal to feel nervous after any scary incident - it was the leap to needing to have a guard dog or "bear arms" as a response that seemed an unusual response.

Negroany · 02/11/2025 01:05

Pistachiocake · 02/11/2025 01:03

I wouldn't tend to phrase it like that, but a lot of people do use American phrasing like "gotten", "snuck" etc.
I don't feel it would be helpful for more people to be armed, but I would like to see more conductors/security staff on trains, and public places in general. I'm not saying this would stop all attacks, obviously, but it might make things safer and reduce the number of people harmed, or harassed.

Edited

I wasn't asking for a thesis, I'm not stupid, I was specifically asking that poster why THEY used it.

I have to admit that the possibility of attacks has occasionally crossed my mind when on a train, even more recently. There are so often people acting strangely (usually just trying to get money tbf) and obviously no security to go through to board trains.

HRTQueen · 02/11/2025 01:06

Two arrested at the scene

Whatever happened it doesn’t appear to be a random attack

must have been terrifying

This incident happened over four hours ago and we have very little information about it. Why is that?

What information are you expect to have just hours after the incident. Police released a statement at 11pm. Everything else is just speculation.

cottonwoolie · 02/11/2025 01:07

There are approximately 1.6 billion passenger rail journeys a year in the UK, most of which suffer nothing beyond delays and this (obviously appalling) incident has left you feeling that to travel by train is immensely dangerous?

I am anxious about terrorist attacks in London as there have been a fair few. Sometimes I don't give it a 2nd thought but other times I think what happened if one happened here where I am now. It was really hard getting the tube the next day after 7/7 & I was only evacuated off the tube so no involvement.

Yeah, loads of anxiety. London is fucking packed every day on trains and tubes and absolutely thriving.

Comefromaway · 02/11/2025 01:08

Thank goodness there are no fatalities. But life threatening injuries is dreadful.

It was on Sky News - they showed it after their hourly update. Its also all over social media - have a look on Twitter, you'll find it there no doubt. He said they were black men. He witness them getting off the train along with him and other passengers and them being arrested by armed police.

I felt a lot more worried about it in the 2010s with the two London Bridge attacks and Westminster attacks.

Swiftasthewind · 01/11/2025 23:56

Maintaining culture cohesion is just too important. We’ve seen what happened with regards to other cases. Nobody likes being lied to I understand that, but do you want potential protests and riots? Do you want a Reform government?

@Swiftasthewind Don't be ridiculous.

Ten people are in hospital. They know who stabbed them. Do you imagine they will all keep quiet if the police lie. And whitewashing is the fastest way to deliver a reform govt.

The only way for the police to deal with this is with transparency & professionalism. If this is a terrorist act it needs dealing with as such. The same for mental health. Only when the facts are known can provision be made to prevent it happening again.

One thing, it strengthens the argument for staff on trains.

Exactly - there were several terrorist attacks in 2017. I remember wondering what on earth was going on and if it would ever stop.

I felt more worried in the 70's and 80's with IRA attacks, but I was younger then and less able to rationalise the stuff I was hearing on the news.

Edit to add, I lived in London then too, I don't now, but I'm fairly close to Huntingdon and used to live even closer and commute from there to London.

Westfacing · 02/11/2025 01:10

TeacherPrimaryabc · 01/11/2025 23:21

The government will be hoping the rumours aren't true that these two men were asylum seekers. And this ofcourse is just speculation, based on some witness reports. A witness on sky news said they were two men dressed in black, with knives like it was planned. They have stabbed about 10 people, 2 deaths so far unfortunately.

The PM has got involved and made a statement, the home secretary has made a statement, suggesting that they are very worried about this incident and the country's response to it. Football fans don't go around carrying knives, stabbing innocent people. And it's not one mental health incident. There were two men.

Edited

I am not lying - go read the immigration rules and statute. Committing a violent crime does not increase the chances of staying in the UK. Also obviously there are people who commit crimes among all populations, but the journey here, often exploitation along the way and trauma that causes refugees to leave in the first place just breaks people. It is horrendous, but it doesn't turn them into criminals.

I didn't say it turns them into criminals I said that they were war criminals before they started their journey.
An evil man who has raped and murdered in one country is more likely to repeat that behaviour wherever he ends up. I don't want them to end up here.

nocoolnamesleft · 02/11/2025 01:13

Why are people focusing on race again? More male violence. It’s always men.

Wait, I call BS on this post. The thought had crossed your mind of multiple stabbings on a train? because of recent news stories? What news stories exactly that would make you worried to take a train all of a sudden? When someone uses a one off, out of the blue extreme situation like this to try and make a doomsday prouncement and declare something has to be done about this? About what? There have been these kinds of things in our long past, pubs being blown up by the IRA etc.
So I get highly suspicious as to the motive of someone when using such situations as a threat of, something's gotta be done,' type thing.

BS? The stabbing of 3 people in a street resulting in the death of a poor innocent man who tried to intervene. 22 year old asylum seeker arrested, barely made the mainstream news when it happened (I think it was about 8th on the list on sky news).

I travelled by train just after (a train coming from London) and yes it did make me worry. Thats the state of the UK today. No it didn’t stop me getting on as im not going to hide at home (in a safe area) and not give my children a nice half term trip, but the constant stabbings do make me worry about public transport (even where we are). I can imagine there will be alot of very anxious people in areas not like ours this week. Are they allowed to be anxious after what has just happened?
