A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Well you know, Boudicca did get what 7/10s of her tribe slaughtered. It’s a great story and she had shit choices but…it ended most of the Iceni…and ended with her drinking poison or disappearing!

No need to complicate things. Let’s go with the fact that Reeves obviously sees herself as some sort of warrior queen, and leave it there 🤣🤣🤣

Rivalled · 04/11/2025 09:09

If she was leading an army I was in, I’d be running for the hills!

I would put them all on the B-Ark; they wouldn't be missed.

@IDareSay I like your style! Not many people will get that reference but from me <chef’s kiss>

Yes but look what happened to those they left behind! All died off as they were killed by the germs the B ship sanitizer people would’ve killed off! We have to be careful!

Anyone listen to the second part of the Leading interview with Michael Gove?

I did chuckle at his comments about Starmer.

Quote:

AC “Do you think Farage could be Prime Minister?

MG He could be, yes.

AC How do you feel about that?

MG Well, I'd rather that it was Kemi Badenach.

AC Would you rather Keir Starmer than Nigel Farage?

MG I'd rather Nigel Farage than Keir Starmer.

AC Would you?

MG Yes, because I don't wish Keir Starmer any ill, but I think he's a terrible Prime Minister. There are individual Labour Ministers whom I admire. People who read The Spectator will know that.

It only embarrasses them, I'm sure. There are people like Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting. And as it happens, Douglas Alexander, who I think are really good.

But I just think that I feel sorry now for Keir Starmer.

AC Sympathy is never a good thing in politics.”

I can't think of any adjectives to describe how much I hate Labour.

Last night, Sir Keir gave Labour MPs a taste of what's to come by warning of the need for "tough but fair" decisions.
Speaking at a party meeting in Westminster, he said the budget "takes place against a difficult economic backdrop".
"It's becoming clearer the long-term impact of Tory austerity, their botched Brexit deal and the pandemic on Britain's productivity is worse than even we feared," the prime minister said.
"Faced with that, we will make the tough but fair decisions to renew our country and build it for the long term."

I am so fcking done with all this shit, I'm reverting to swearing.

I definitely recall not so long ago, that Starmer said in a speech 'we have fixed the foundations, it's time to move on the the second phase of our plan'

But now, now they're blaming evreyone and his wife for their realisation that they have royally fcked up! Their spend, spend, spend has bankrupted us. I could continue, but what's the point?

It really pisses me off when Labour try to blame Brexit for everything.

On one hand they crow about the trade deal with the US and how well they’ve done to get it - but we wouldn’t have got the deal if we were still in the EU! - and on the other hand, they say what a disaster Brexit has been. Pick a side fgs.

Plus, it was almost 10 years ago, the effects of it have been known for a while now and so should have been fully factored into their manifesto lies promises.

As for mentioning the pandemic - they seem to have conveniently forgotten that they wanted us to lock down faster, harder, longer. I dread to think what state the country would be in now had they been in power then!

strawberrybubblegum · 04/11/2025 09:22

The choice is between austerity, letting borrowing rip or taking the tough long-term decisions needed. stealing more money from people we don't like anyway.

They're trying to position it that stealing more money from us is the only option.

No, Rachel. It's not.

Cutting spending is the obvious "tough long term decision" that's needed.

It has to happen anyway. Stealing more from us first and flushing it down the drain just means that the country will have less left in the tank when whoever replaces you does finally make the responsible and inevitable decision. And the resulting suffering will be on you.

I always think of Gorbachev, who went into an ordinary supermarket - with plenty of varied food on the shelves - on a visit to the US and said ' What have we done?'

Rivalled · 04/11/2025 09:22

And all because Nicola looked good with her tough line on tv! That didn’t age well. Economists have been scathing about Labour, not listening to advice and not factoring in likely forecast changes. These are nothing exceptional as
we've talked about, the productivity gap and massive debt levels are leading us down the crisis path, gaslighted by Labour.

CaveMum · 04/11/2025 09:24

Can I just say that the fact that so many HHGTTG references are being thrown casually around this thread only cements the view that you lot are truly my tribe.

I agree. I don’t think Starmer and Reeves will ever be honest about anything.

They won’t touch their own failings on this. A few diehard supporters will keep batting for them on here.

I hope the electorate show what they think of Labour’s lies.

DancingFerret · 04/11/2025 09:50

We're getting re-runs of that speech now - she has no redeeming qualities and clearly no-one's ever addressed her machine-gun style of delivery. Hypocrisy, deceit and arrogance with every bullet.

It is so blindingly obvious that they have changed the narrative to blaming brexit as Reform has increased there polling. If it was the Tories that were in the lead she would be blaming austerity, if the Greens were in the lead she would be blaming dolphins.

InterestQ · 04/11/2025 10:10

Quite honestly, Labour should never ever have said they wouldn’t raise income tax in their manifesto. It was a moronic and naive sales pitch and if they really believed the public finances to be in a terrible, it’s the quickest most efficient way to raise money without heinous and expensive admin.

THEN they “realised” and started shrieking about the £20bn “black hole” (doesn’t that seem cutely small now?!) and decimated small businesses, rural communities, any employers, fucked up the job market and bollocksed up their welfare cuts. And NOW they’re blithering on about breaking the manifesto pledge.

a) shouldn’t have been one
b) should have done it in the first budget
c) just fucking get on with it.

Hard core lefties are always saying they’re dying to pay more tax, so let them. Pensioners who pay income tax will contribute, anyone who has a job will contribute but AT LEAST if there’s enough money dredged out of people across the board we might bloody get something for the money. This doubling of council tax here and there or fucking over “the rich” is just burbling into the void.

Labour has no problem lying the rest of the time, so for once they can just admit honest incompetence and get on with it.

And maybe slap a percentage on VAT while they’re at it.

Ha yes. Although the Greens have overtaken Labour in polling so maybe dolphins will make an appearance.

The thread is Probably led by lab hq. Followed by a few useful Labour sheep. Goes without saying they’d deny that though, combined with howls of nervous fake ‘lols’..

ps. I note that Fabian soc hq is on petty France. Very very close to the hop. I used to work nearby.

She was great. Answered well. And is right.

People will bash if they’re dependent on the state, they’ll prioritise that even over dc getting jobs and not passing on debt liability and high debt servicing.

Upstartled · 04/11/2025 10:53

Yes, I thought it was great, actually. I hope we get more of this. I'm not sure how you get cut through with all the drama of reform and chaos of Labour mopping up all the column inches, but it was absurdly reassuring to hear someone speaking sense about the importance of work and business for national wellbeing.
