Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

I just had to Google what they are. What on earth?! Who approved these?! 😂

They look like something my daughter would have played with from Fisher Price 😂 especially when they’re parked together, like they should be on a playmat

What?!?! Is parkin a Northern thing?! I did not know that!

Yes, I didn’t know that either till I tried to buy it down south! I just thought it was the same as mince pies, treacle toffee and hot cross buns. Bought some in Morrisons a few days ago - think I’ll have a slice now. I know I can make it etc but i just never remember in time.

I agree the stores are a bit grotty in appearance, but the parkin thing and the much better “ethnic” food section and great butcher cheap cuts / fish heads for stock make it a great extra supermarket for me.

estrogone · 30/10/2025 13:53

Primark. It's like a dystopian horror show - I am autistic and there is something about the store layout, acoustics and general sense of chaos that makes me twitch. To be fair I have only ever been in pre Xmas / boxing day sales (that's when we usually visit the UK). My chest tightness just thinking about going in.

viques · 30/10/2025 13:55

Fairy washing up liquid. Can’t stand their adverts. Refuse to buy the stuff and mentally put two fingers up at their highly paid marketing team as I ignore their product and buy the one next to it.

Yes, I am petty. I am the same about M and S Christmas food adverts.

I love this thread, I have found my people, irrational, vindictive and grudge bearing.

elfendom1 · 30/10/2025 13:57

maltesers, the nonsensical depressing ads they have. Still don't get it and I worked in advertising, elevate your product. Same for dove, real women and all that but I see it as boring, icky and cheap. I don't want to see moles on someone.

Oh god yes the dreaded Longchamp bag I forgot about that one😆

I remember one of the first threads I came across the "La Pliage" bag on. Someone had asked for recommendations for a stylish and practical every day bag and SO many people had mentioned it. I'd never heard of it so wen straight to Google and couldn't believe my eyes 😂The material looks absolutely shite and if it wasn't for the name it would be about a tenner down the market.

I'm kind of glad to be pulled up by this thread.

I was always a bit mystified by the Longchamp foldy bags, but recently when travelling I am increasingly finding the airlines ask you at the gate to check in your cabin bag "free of charge" 🙄- which is oh so decent not to charge you when you bought the ticket based on the representation you could have it with you. It's particularly annoying when you have not checked any luggage so that you can move off swiftly at the other end and then find yourself waiting at the conveyor belt for your hand luggage.

Anyway, I have noticed they let you remove any "I absolutely need this for the flight" items, so have begun taking a fabric tote rolled up inside the wheely bag to empty the must-haves or 'my life would stop if the luggage doesn't arrive" items into (eg reading glasses, contact lenses, laptop), but it did cross my mind that what I really need to whip out is one of those La Pliage" bags. I was contemplating getting one ahead of my next trip ... but you are right: the Waterstones fabric tote will do!

Duchy Originals

Like King Charles needs any more money from his gullible subjects 😡

Ihateboris · 30/10/2025 14:01

Range Rovers. .seems to be that literally everyone has one ( I assume because you can pick them up cheap these days); and I feel very inadequate and unsafe in my little car!

Anti-consumerism books...all available on Amazon 😂😭😂

Yeah, I know. 😊
I use Amazon for reference, try not to buy from them.

Saltworks perfume. I have never bought any but their marketing appears to be stalking me.

A clothes designer I know recently travelled for research to a factory in Asia where loads of well known underwear brands are made. The owner was giving him a tour and he was shocked to find out that the high-end brands are no better made than than the high-street versions - you’re simply just paying for the name.

Yep, same for high end bags as well!

A model rather than a brand - but I have a very specific problem with the Nissan Qashqai, after a random Google search elicited the an AI response to the question "Is the Nissan Qashquai the worst car in the world?"

I had no intention of buying a Nissan Qashqui, but now I consider them to be the worst car in the world.

I have a similar problem with the Nissan Juke - bug-ugly car! (I know the expression is "pug-ugly" but it looks like a fly so my version seems appropriate! 😂 )

Yankee candles. Nasty stenched things that make my head ache.

Same absolutely disgusting

sugarapplelane · 30/10/2025 14:08

Mr Kipling

He makes exceedingly bad cakes, not good ones.

I tried a fondant fancy the other day having had good memories of them as a child. Yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk. Processed shite.

Radley. That fucking dog.

Ditto Kipling and those infantile toys they charge you for. And now the things have apparently started breeding and turning into ugly labubublalalala rubbish.

Damn you (other) Northerners @Starlight1984 @Talipesmum. All this talk of parkin has given me cravings and I’m now defrosting some from my special freezer parkin stash (acquired every time I go back up North visiting and do the mandatory Booths trip).

Shufflebumnessie · 30/10/2025 14:11

Apple
Lush (for their politics & migraine/vomit inducing products)
Michael Kors
Snag tights
Vodafone (still bitter from an awful experience 20 years ago. I don't forgive or forget!!)
Lindt Lindor (for trying to pass themselves off as expensive, luxury chocolate when they actually taste like slimy oil balls!)
And many, many more!

Applesonthelawn · 30/10/2025 14:12

Me & Em. So frumpy and overpriced.

I mean Tesla, for obvious megalomaniac/narcissist twat reasons.

Joules clothing. I hate that faux outdoorsy horsey country chintz look but for Londoners who never go anywhere muddier than Hyde Park vibe. And their stuff doesn't actually stand up to actual outdoor life. I was gifted a pair of Joules wellies years ago, but they split within a few weeks of wear on a smallholding!

I also simultaneously deeply resent the price of Hunter wellies and the fact that they are the only pair I've ever owned that didn't split after a few months!

I get it...not a fan of Joules clothing at all. BUT...my wellibobs have held up quite well (have 5 pr!) and bright pink floral ones get complimented everytime. Older hunters wear great..newer made in China ones, like all brands that become trendy, are far inferior

bollockyness · 30/10/2025 14:13

bloody Stanley cups!
