Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

And whoever thought it was a good idea to pair it with that awful puce coloured staff uniform - imagine spending hours looking like a blood clot....

Well seeing that Sainsbury's employ about 14500 people, with many of them in a foward facing role wearing the uniform, they don't need to imagine what its like spending hours looking like a 'blood clot'.

What a shitty thing to say!.

But why would you want a tent ON your car? What is the benefit? I'd spend all night worried that I'd fall off the car (I know you probably cant) and one of the good things about a tent is that you can unzip it and roll out. I cant be doing with ladders in the middle of the night for a scary walk by torchlight to go to the spider infested portaloo.

Honestly I agree 😂

Quacking4it · 31/10/2025 14:03

Nutella- don't care about murdering orangutans
Faje- I hate that fucking fa yeh advert
leaf blowers- just blows the leaves around again?!
Pretty much everything mentioned by others above.

LowlandsParadise · 31/10/2025 14:17

Plantur 39.
The whispered 'women over 40' as if being a woman over 40 is some dirty, shameful state of existence best not mentioned out loud in polite company.

I'd rather wash my hair with Fairy Liquid, car shampoo or patio cleaner than fork out money on that bottle of misogyny.

Fuck you, Plantur.

The Peoples Post Code Lottery because of their infuriating ads....and that song someone's Knockin at your door 😫

Always makes me think of Russia/Soviet bloc

These have made me laugh but I agree with a lot of them. In particular Michael Kors (trying so hard to be a top end designer but in reality is just high street crap with a naff logo).

Also, not a brand but I actually cannot stand Morrisons as a supermarket. I can shop at literally any other supermarket but I actually panic when I have to set foot in a Morrisons. The layout, the price labels and signs... I don't know why but the whole experience sets me on edge and I just need to get out of there as quick as possible 😂

Me too! I hate going into my local Morrisons, it sets me on edge and I don't know why.

Arran2024 · 31/10/2025 15:28

Clarins and Estee Lauder. My mum used them and I hated the smell. I thought they were so old fashioned. I'm in my 60s now and I still think that!

goody2shooz · 31/10/2025 15:38

Stanley cups. Nuff said.

So this thread was about brands people unreasonably dislike and started off quite sensibly (and amusingly) but pretty soon disintegrated into the MN Bingocard of Bayliss and Harding, anything scented, virtue-signalling about brand ethics etc.
Why is it that posters are always so keen to show their superior taste and just love knocking back anything that a ordinary/standard/average person would consider a slight upgrade on something you would buy for yourself?
Are posters supposed to be impressed that your palette is so sophisticated that you can only eat the very finest Swiss chocolate and 'hate' Hotel Chocolat, or that your nose is so delicate that you 'hate' Yankee Candles for instance?
It happens every. single. time

For the record, I like Lindor chocolate!

ImWearingPantaloons · 31/10/2025 15:49

Victoria’s Secret after being informed by a sneering shop assistant that they don’t stock big enough sizes for me.

Skulked off and went to get a doughnut.

Fuck ‘em.

CatFinderGeneral · 30/10/2025 16:29

Yeah, why is that? Mini coopers are badduns surprisingly.

I have no idea. They never used to be but I swear recently they’re absolutely awful. Or maybe they always have been and I’ve just started getting grumpier with age 😂

I’m happy to admit that I like Bayliss and Harding. Ok, I probably wouldn’t buy it for someone else but I have two of their shower gels and they smell gorgeous.

Morrisons and Asda- stores look grubby. I associate Morrisons with the elderly.
white fox- stupid bubble writing.
anything endorsed by a celebrity particularly Molly Mae who has as about much talent and personality as my cat

AquaForce · 31/10/2025 16:29

Hollister used to annoy me. That scent in the shop and so dark it's like a coal mine.

I changed my view on it though. As a person who is now way too old to shop there, I can wander in and stay in the shadows undetected 😁

AquaForce · 31/10/2025 16:34

Bench - more specifically their jackets. Love them and have a few. All supposed to be medium sized. but they're all different sizes.

frostedpixie · 31/10/2025 16:45

I buy Baylis & Harding as gifts. They smell lovely. And I'm not flush. Frankly Molton Brown are overrated af.

Yeah, I said it.

Some people on MN really need to have a word with themselves.

Femalefootyfan · 31/10/2025 16:58

Has to be Lush, I have to hold both my breath and my nose as I hurry past any of their shops.

Ryanair, should be fairly self explanatory but we haven’t flown them in about 20 years since an awful herding and boarding experience when coming back from Spain. I like to make a flight part of my holiday experience and Ryanair is an ordeal.

DeadMemories · 31/10/2025 17:07

I have to agree with Lush purely because the overwhelming smells in the shop. I popped in with DD to get her some bath bombs and i could feel a headache coming on, and i have a really poor sense of smell.

but on the flip side the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful.

Katypp · 31/10/2025 18:00

Is there anyone in real life who get a headache walking within a mile of a Lush shop?
I can't say I've come across it outside of here - yet all MNetters seem to be dropping like flies if they catch a whiff of Snowbaby. See also thrush, which seems to affect MNetters much more than the general population, albeit never caused by Moulton Brown products.

GellerYeller · 31/10/2025 18:29

Evans cycles. Went in with an idea of what bike I wanted, and was actually hoping a sales person would help me select the right size.
Was ignored in favour of a couple who looked like they were halfway through the Tour de France, looking for a puncture kit or similar.
I ended up at a local independent dealer instead and I’ve not set foot in one since.

Bath Oliver biscuits. John le Carre uses it in most of his books as the wankiest marker for 'people like us', 'upper middle class', etc.

My paternal grandmother loved those, and marrons glacé. She was middle middle class.

I hate Richmond sausages. Never had them but the list of ingredients puts me right off.

I'm nor British born and one of the small gifts everyone likes when I'm go back for Christmas is the pomegranate and fig smellies I get them form Bayliss and Harding. Some people is looking forward to it, and I love that particular one myself.
We can't never get it right I suppose! Lol

I'm one of them. Is too strong for me.

But I did get a headache, granted I was in there for about 15 minutes with a very indecisive DD. It does smell lovely in there just very strong.

Yes I do actually understand that. But I am old enough to remember when owning a Skoda made you a standing joke and I’m afraid that I’m so shallow that I’ve never quite moved on.

Same. Skoda was a really naff brand. I couldn’t have one, I just can’t shake it off.
