Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

I know they’re respectable now and made by a reputable company but never ever in my life will I drive a Skoda. If I win a brand new one it would be immediately put up for sale 🤣

Absolutely nothing wrong with Skoda's. I hired a karoqin Romania a couple of years and it was comfortable, good seat positioning and extremely economical. I was impressed with it.
They have a reputation for being reliable theses days.

Dr Oetker! I have no idea why but since I was a teen I've found it utterly repulsive to think of a doctor making my pizza 😅😅

😅I thought he did chocolate????

Not sure it's that unreasonable but Boots because they haven't had enough staff for decades and because of their stupid stance during covid eg taping off the make-up aisles. In fact any brand that had silly rules during covid.

Also Lush because their products stink but also because of their political activism which I don't share.

Also agree the stupid Daisy perfume ads. I don't like perfume anyway as it gives me a headache.

Years ago I was in Boots with an infant and he was desperate for the loo. It was a quiet Sunday and they allowed us up to the staff toilet on the third floor.

Going up the stairs I was shocked to see poster after poster encouraging staff to be vigilant about other staff potentially stealing stuff and to report it immediately, with loads of exclamation marks. So many posters!! I just came away thinking it wasn’t a very classy place (and isn’t it now owned by Walmart which would explain this stance!).

honeylulu · 30/10/2025 23:50

Agree about Sweaty Betty. Yuck! I couldn't bring myself to buy gym kit thinking that Betty has already sweated into it.

Michael Kors stopped being fashionable or high end the moment UK teens were sporting their bags to go to school. Hasn't recovered in my eyes since.

Morrisons need to do a complete overhaul of their stores, absolutely shocking. The only decent one I've set foot in over the last few years was near Leeds.

The Morrisons in St Ives (Cambs) is amazing, but I've only been in there once. We have a Morrisons Local on the high street and I once waited to be served for ages, but most of the time it's okay in there.

20000000l · 30/10/2025 23:53

Oh dear, I totally forgot about certain aisles being cordoned off during the pandemic!

In fact another reason why I like M&S, is that they were the only place I remember being able to buy clothes from during that time. In fact, I don’t think my local M&S changed anything about their offering - they still sold home items, workwear, beauty items, plants/flowers etc.

Ffs why are the big conglomerates buying up all the eco brands? Well I know why, it’s just annoying.

They better keep their hands off Surcare as it's the only fabric softener I can use. (But you don't need fabric softener! I challenge you to wash anything made of synthetic fibres without fabric softener and not end up as a static-y mess! Plus my fleece blankets go weird and hard without it.)

Cursula · 30/10/2025 23:54

Bershka. I don’t get it, and everything seems a bit tarty. Or I’m seriously out of touch.

Notascouser1990 · 30/10/2025 23:55

Brewdog- I've lived in two large cities and I'm pleased to say I've never set a toenail in there. Terrible company apparently as well.

Most sports clothing shops such as Sports Direct and JD Sports- always staffed by moody teenagers who think they're cool (they're not) and who spend most of their time messing about flirting, bantering and joking with each other and have the cheek to act inconvenienced if you dare to interrupt said banter and actually ask for help.

Upwiththelark76 · 30/10/2025 23:59

Lush - can’t stand the smell of the shops and the thought
of a bath bomb changes the brand name from lush to thrush in my head

Superdry. No explanation needed.

No, there is an explanation needed please. What's wrong with it? I have an anorak type thing from Superdry and I absolutely LOVE it. It's comfortable, practical and attractive.

It just seems like a perfectly acceptable casualwear high street fashion brand to me. There's nothing obviously outrageous or hideous about it.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 31/10/2025 00:25

I hate Lush because a) it gives me a headache and all those lurid coloured bath bombs are shit, and b) their tiresome, woke virtue signalling and political preaching gets right on my tits. All that 'this a safe space' nonsense. Safe from what? What on earth do Lush think happens in other chain stores that don't declare themselves to be safe spaces? It's just performative bollocks.

Pandora. I just don't like those bracelets. They end up costing a fortune just to look ubiquitous and a bit tacky. I think of all the poor women who are resigned to getting a Pandora charm for every Christmas, birthday and Mother's day until the end of time because they are too polite to tell their husband/kids that they are totally over it.

Any of those brands that have a constant 70% off sale. Come on people. Think it through. Don't be a sucker.

Tassimo and Dolce Gusto coffee machines and pods. It's really shit coffee at an over-inflated price, branded to seem high quality but it's not. It's 'posh coffee' for people who usually drink instant.

CorvusNoir · 31/10/2025 00:34

Cath Kidston. Twee floral overload.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 31/10/2025 00:34

I loathe Subway. I've tried it twice and it was disgusting both times. I just don't understand anyone who likes it.

Dolce And Gabbana and Versace. Horribly showy brands for people with too much money and no taste.

SmallandSpanish · 31/10/2025 00:51

Tesla. We have one (work car) and I can’t wait to get rid, terrible quality and so embarrassing to drive. People definitely treat you with contempt when you drive it.

SmallandSpanish · 31/10/2025 00:52

Also Hush. The quality is just so bad.

Is she the woman married to the Superdry man? If so, huge!

I just had to google who owned Holland Cooper because I've never heard of it. As soon as I saw a photo of her I instantly recognised the 'type' and it reminded me of a very well heeled and well connected thirty-something couple I barely know who live in a posh part of London. They are clearly all part of the same tribe, these people and they all seem to know one another, usually through public school or one of the posh set's preferred universities or via some other society connection or networking.

Anyway, I just had a real spidey sense about it so I looked up the woman I very vaguely know on facebook and would you believe it, she's friends with the Holland Cooper woman! Just a total hunch on my part, but a hunch that was spot on. I feel like some sort of all-knowing genius now.

Duchy Originals

I refuse to contribute a penny more than I'm forced to towards the upkeep of the royal family.

It doesn't go to the upkeep of the Royals! Do your research before making such a silly comment, all profits (last years was 3.6 million) go to King Charles III charities..

Bearinthesmallmessyflat · 31/10/2025 01:37

Greggs - their hot drinks are ok but they’re a sad, disappointing excuse for a bakers.

Fiat 500s - I’ve always thought they were ugly then a friend got one and had nothing but trouble with it

Passenger - mid life crisis, usually paired with an overpriced ‘self converted‘ camper van

Jellycat, stanley cups, disney - basically just anything that people collect and make it their whole personality

venicci and silver cross - overpriced for the quality and tend to owned by fur coat and no knickers types ime

librebon - they been popping up a lot in my area recently i just seriously judge the people that trust the car seat bit of these

Taylor swift - cause she really is a brand rather than a musician now

Ringthebell26 · 31/10/2025 01:58

alloutofcareunits · 30/10/2025 13:30

Can you believe my next door neighbours have not one, but TWO Nissan Cubes?! They had two white ones then something happened to one and they replaced it with a silver one. Just why??? Of all the available cars why would you have two of them? 🤣

@alloutofcareunits I’d move house!

It is so awful and depressing in there, I cannot explain why.

Went into a Morrisons for the first time when visiting the UK this summer. Hated it - it reminded me of Safeway. Then I discovered that Morrison's bought/rebranded Safeway in the UK in 2004. So that explains it for me...

bloody Stanley cups!

I live in Canada. To me, a Stanley Cup is something every team in the NHL aspires to, not a beverage container...

Madickenxx · 30/10/2025 15:03

My immediate thought when I read the OP was Ford, Morrisons and Radley...

Ford - I have no idea why I dislike the brand, suspect some past snobbery but who knows. I actually own a Ford now (it was not my decision) and it's perfectly fine but I still feel like I've let myself down by driving it 🙄

Morrisons - don't really know why as I have never shopped there properly but it just seems so dated. Reminds me of the old Safeway chain - very 1990s

Radley - the dog (shudder).

That'll be because Morrisons bought out Safeway in the UK in 2004 and just rebranded.

The Nobel Prize, Oscars and the Hollywood Stars- self congratulating PR that hides a lot of abuse/dynamite invention.
