Home bargains hell.

Just visited Home Bargains for the first time. What a horrible shop. Full of the great unwashed and plastic tat! People standing around talking, you can’t get past them. The queuing system is mad! Everyone stands up one aisle and then goes to a till when it’s free. What wrong with queuing normally behind each individual till.
You may save a few pence but you’ll loose your sanity!

They usually only have 1 or 2 tills open IME so obviously everyone will queue at the open till ,and some people will move across if they open another 🤷‍♀️
Personally I love HB,s and B&M,s ,you go in for in for a tin of dog food and come out having spent £40 on stuff you didn't know you needed!

GoodQueenBess · 29/10/2025 15:24

I send my staff to Fortnum's, darling.

over50andfab · 29/10/2025 15:24

Sorry, must have been me - I was a bit late for my monthly dip in the river to get the smell off before going into HB.

CocoRats · 29/10/2025 15:25

I’m not keen but mostly because it encourages me to buy stuff that I don’t need.

thisishowloween · 29/10/2025 15:25

I love a Home Bargains - never been considered part of the "great unwashed" before though 😂

I always stock up on Diet Coke, wax melts, laundry detergent and cleaning stuff when I go as it's so cheap.

Bestfootforward11 · 29/10/2025 15:26

Not sure why the need for this post. Unkind and judgmental. If you don’t like it, don’t go.

childofthe607080s · 29/10/2025 15:26

A single queue is most fair as it means you don’t run the risk of getting caught behind the person who counts out £23.67 in 2 p coins

RealPerson · 29/10/2025 15:27

Were they all wearing polyester tracksuits

I’m working class and regularly shop in B&Ms. I do, however, know the difference between lose and loose.

Exactly !

Needmorelego · 29/10/2025 14:55

Don't shop there again then.
Problem solved.
Personally I like the shop.

I know and didn't the words home BARGAINS not make op understand the point of the place , cheap stuff lol

latetothefisting · 29/10/2025 15:30

'the great unwashed' is weird - surely it's pretty much the same people who use any other shop? Or do you think they pop off for a quick shower inbetween HB and Tesco?

Same with 'plastic tat' - the vast majority of what they sell is cleaning products, food, hygiene stuff etc - same as every other general shop. What were you expecting?

I'm always stuck behind the person who when faced with concept of paying it comes as a shock to them, and they slowly go through all their bags and pockets to find their money/ Debit card etc.

65p for a filled half coconut for the garden birds 🥰 the bluetits yell at me if I run out.

Mine too. I have to be careful though, I got one that had raisins in the top and they very vocally let me know they didn't like it.
Dh now checks they are sunflower seed ones. I am more careful about feeding them than anybody else.
We've had a Nuthatch and a Woodpecker.
Love live Home Bargains.

strawgoh · 29/10/2025 15:32

Our local Home Bargains has a perfectly ordinary and normal queuing system. I don't know what you're on about.

mangoandmelonsmoothie · 29/10/2025 15:32

The great unwashed - excuse me?
Plastic tat - in HB I buy products from the local dairy, Copella apple juice, fresh fruit and veg, Roberts bread, eggs, medicines and toiletries, dog treats and many of the other lines PP have mentioned.
How very dare people speak to each other!
I assure you in our brand new super-duper store people queue at each till.
There’s a very good reason why T. J. Morris and his brothers have been so successful - customers are wise to shopping.

JenniferBooth · 29/10/2025 15:35

I opened this thread expecting to see that yet another customer had been falsely accused of shoplifting due to facial recognition.

I saw that and chuckled.

Hole bargains is mint but I'm more of a b&m girl myself.

Makemineacosmo · 29/10/2025 15:36

So don't go back, if it's beneath you ...

NebulousDeadline · 29/10/2025 15:37

Home Bargains I have been to are great about opening tills. B&M have narrower aisles and odd layouts. The Range are often too hot or too cold and don't have clear pricing. Savers are fine but have the "can I interest you in..." upsell at the checkout. Not many great unwashed in any of them.

ReturnsAdministrator · 29/10/2025 15:39

Don’t forget your picky bits for tea.

qercv · 29/10/2025 15:39

I used to go there to get dc brand toys. They had variants not available anywhere else. Nowadays I don’t go there very often. Our nearest one is in rough area, think littered streets, and ds doesn’t want to go there. Dd likes their makeup and haircare dupes so we will go sometimes to get her some.

I hope the OP welcomes your correction. It's such an irritating mistake.

TattooStan · 29/10/2025 15:40

"The great unwashed".

Well, you were there OP!

FenellaFeldman · 29/10/2025 15:41

Allthesnowallthetime · 29/10/2025 14:55

I have been there. I did wash before going.

Thank goodness. Did you "loose" anything?
