I don't think she said anything wrong in the slightest

She said “it drives me mad seeing adverts full of black people” and you don’t think there is anything wrong in the slightest.

blimey even she apologised and said she said the wrong thing.

BorgQueen · 26/10/2025 18:21

Britain is over 80% white.
It’s not in any way unreasonable or racist to expect advertising / tv etc. to reflect that fact.
In a predominantly African or Asian society, you would expect their media to reflect reality too.
It’s jarring to see every advert contain black or mixed race families because it’s not real life in Britain. A visitor from another country would think it was not a majority white country.
Reality matters.

She apologised because its politically correct to do so and she will have been 'told off'. If she believes it, she should stand by it. No one stands by anything they believe now.

My DIL and her dark skinned black friends often ‘joke’ / comment that the black women in the adverts are usually light skinned, and mixed race with European features.
And that dark skinned black men are almost always paired with white women and cute mixed race children.
They find it unpalatable and can confirm that colourism is alive and well in not only their own community, but more widely on TV.

Thank you. I find it quite offensive that these pairings are on the ads and it’s also very rare to see a dark black-skinned couple. I do recall such a couple dancing in the kitchen, to the embarrassment of their teenage daughter, and it stood out for me because it was so unusual in a TV ad

A visitor from another country would not base anything on the adverts they might see on TV Confused

Maybe watch less adverts if it is jarring

I've heard this kind of thing a couple of times in the last few months. Most recently an acquaintance of mine said "we were the only white people there" when talking about being in Birmingham. I don't understand why that's a problem. What is it specifically that these people find threatening?

If Britain is 80 per cent white, going somewhere which is overwhelmingly of a different ethnicity in your own country is uncomfortable?

Why? Presumably most people are British. Why would that be uncomfortable?

It was taken out of context Bambam. You need to realise once you're in the limelight the cameras are constantly rolling and things you would perhaps not say are picked up.
People today are too easily offended and I ask you just to take a step back, and don't look for arguments.

Not in advertisements it doesn't.🙈

Sadly the odious woman is my MP. She has lied about so many things (areas she represents being unsafe, helping a local boxing club ... alongside all the shit she says in the media). The woman represents everything that is wrong with politics.

Your previous MP wasn't much cop either.

Racist people always claim that their racist comments were taken out of context. It's almost as if they believe that it's fine to be racist in some contexts.

If you don't see what was wrong with what she said, that says more about you than it says about her comments.

Wasn't it said as part of an interview in answer to a question on a talk radio show? So she'd have been well aware.

But also - what does it actually matter? It is literally the colour of someone's skin. Why not represent all members of our society despite them not been in the majority. I'd really like you to articulate specifically why this is problematic for her? What harm does it cause?

The context was her making a statement on a live broadcast interview. She was very aware of where she was, what she was saying and who was watching/listening.🫣

It's fascinating to me that you find it "jarring" to see "too many" black and brown people on the telly. I find this totally unrelatable as I don't give it a second thought - why does it bother you so much? Are you generally quite hyper focused on race for some reason?

Bathingforest · 26/10/2025 18:44

I am Balkan. Goodness, thanks God we don't have issues with racism nor who goes on what advert where I am from. I just read and roll my eyes these days on everything going on in the west

Bathingforest · 26/10/2025 18:45

I just realised that Nigerians for example might have their own tv and their own adverts. Curious what goes on theirs

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/10/2025 18:45

The apology:

In a social media post later on Saturday, Pochin said her comments "were phrased poorly and I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused, which was not my intention".

I’m amazed by this. The balkans is known for its massive racism.

or do you mean there are no issues with racism because you don’t have any POC?

I couldn't care less about "rattling your cage". I'm merely expressing my opinion.

I'm well aware that some people wear their racism as a badge of honour.

I always wonder do these people not look around them eg when they are on the tube?

They don't live in London.
