Labour isn't working - Thread 15

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

But it's a 'family member'.

I want to hear more about that. How close is the family member. And do they get tax payer funding to live in rented accommodation....

Sister?

JRM ❤️😜
@Nolletimiere love your posts super informative
I can vouch for the great unwashed that are benefit dwellers at the carboot sales everywhere. In pyjamas tattooed fake jewels in their faces feral kids with no teeth they are working the system to the max and we are all paying for it it’s getting worse

I am feeling more politically bereft and an questioning my allegiance to Labour.

If anyone searches me they can see my back story. Grew up in poverty (in the 80s - so water and electricity would be cut off). Bit of time in care. I loved school though and I loved my teachers (maybe why I became one!). I have had no family contact for over 25 years but I can’t imagine my sibling has broken free of the benefits trap. I often wonder how I did. Maybe that’s influence my Labour voting in the past - I think every non working family produces a child who will give back to the state.

Sorry if this sounds like “woe is me”. I actually still have a socialist heart (sorry!) but logic is taking over.

More trouble for Reeves incoming, something to do with her husband now.

I hear you. It’s why I’m so keen that education must remain untaxed. It’s the great leveller. It was my way out, albeit state.

Kemi Badenoch hacked into Harriet Harman's website?!

Why is nobody normal?!

I'm out this evening, just as well otherwise I'd be sitting online all evening.

I will try to resist coming back and posting on here because no one will be around by the time I get home😂 You all go to bed very early. (well compared to me anyway) 😂 so if I post here, I'll just be ranting away to myself!

You crack me up - you’re our breaking news guru….

Sadly if Reeves’s H made a voluntary disclosure, its probably not incriminating…
unless her marriage is in trouble…

Edit: Oh, it may well be incriminating….

Starmer: ‘Full confidence’

Love it.

Nolletimiere · 30/10/2025 16:45

One of the top comments on the Guardian.

These 'mistakes' that don't count because they are 'inadvertant' - when a minister does it - and yet when a terminally ill carer of a disabled spouse inadvertantly forgets to declare her two days in hospital, her benefits are stopped. pah.

CaveMum · 30/10/2025 16:54

The BBC are referencing “a review of emails sent and received by the chancellor’s husband”.

What’s the betting her husband was told about the need for the landlord licence, he said he’d sort it and then didn’t bother.

He’ll be thrown to the wolves - “See, it wasn’t Comrade Rachel’s fault. She’s too busy being important and left this menial stuff to her husband,”

No need to prove your backstory. If it helps, I grew up in poverty too, in a very Labour household.
You sound quite conflicted, but its worth pointing out that the current version of Labour are nothing like they used to be. My Labour loving family don't recognise them. They hate Starmer and won't vote for them.

I’m also guessing that this came to light via the estate agent who on hearing they were about to have the blame pinned on them went back through all their correspondence to find evidence that they did actually do their job.

Same as Rayner then when she tried to blame two other firms and failed.

Isn't Reeves married to a high ranking civil servant? I though he was head of the DWP at one time?

This could get messy 🍿

Yes good point. As Eastern said, echos of Rayner when she tried to pin the blame elsewhere.

🤣It does make fantastic popcorn, though the noise can be scary!
OR for those without a popcorn button 2-4 mins on high. Use a lidded bowl🤣 Don't ask how I know this.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 30/10/2025 17:19

No!

I want Rachel to stay.

The rest of them are even scarier!

It really does. DH is a son of an immigrant and they have never voted Labour - they even voted in favour of Brexit (I didn’t). You can see how conflicted I am!

Upstartled · 30/10/2025 17:22

Oh, I'm a complete slattern and I use the pre-packaged microwave popcorn packets and they tell me not to use my popcorn button. So we have a neglected popcorn button.

My preference is that she stays and we hold her feet to the fire.
