A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Seems like Starmer (never here Kier) is getting ahead of Saturday’s deputy leadership result…

Keir Starmer makes last-minute decision to attend COP30 climate talks in Brazil
PM ends weeks of prevarication and rejects advice to stay in UK ahead of autumn Budget

Starmer is partial to a bit of global grandstanding, rather than dealing with the mess he has created here at home.

FunkyMonks · 21/10/2025 20:52

I can not wait to see them marched out and perhaps to finally see the start of things becoming normal again since they have been in Power I feel like I’m living in some surreal nightmare so I will be glad once they’ve finally been given the boot.

Ah, makes sense. I though he'd changed his tiny mind because he wanted to chase Green votes.
God he's such a turd.

Well we've got five weeks to get our 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆 in a row. The paperwork I ordered has arrived so I'll be busy with ISAS tomorrow. Leaving DH in charge of annuities.

I'm in hospital next Week, will be in pain on crutches for a while. So the push is now on.

Nolletimiere · 21/10/2025 20:57

It’s coming thick and fast, sorry.

Grooming gang survivors have attacked Jess Phillips as Labour’s national inquiry into the scandal plunged into further turmoil.

Abuse victims hit back at the Home Office minister after she rejected their claims that the inquiry could be watered down and expanded to cover other forms of child sexual abuse.

Fiona Goddard, one of four survivors who quit the inquiry’s victims’ panel over their concerns, produced a consultation document where they were asked whether the inquiry could “take a broader approach”.

“I didn’t make this up. The documents are right there. Being dismissed and contradicted by a minister when you’re telling the truth takes you right back to that feeling of not being believed all over again,” said Ms Goddard.

“I think she needs to step down because she’s publicly accused a grooming gang survivor who, throughout my whole life has been accused, of lying over and over again - that is part of the whole scandal.”

The public row came on a day when social worker Annie Hudson, one of the candidates to chair the inquiry, withdrew from the process and three more* *grooming gang victims quit.

The survivor, who has not publicly identified herself, followed Ms Goddard and Ellie-Ann Reynolds in resigning from the victims liaison panel advising the Home Office.

Ms Goddard quit after saying she had “repeatedly faced suggestions from officials to expand this inquiry…with grooming gang victims forgotten.” Ms Reynolds said the “final turning point was the push to widen the remit of the inquiry in ways that downplay the racial and religious motivations behind our abuse.”

Good luck with the hospital stay and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. We'll keep you company Flowers

But they don't need a campaign, with or without buses, to pay more tax, they can just do it.

Anyone can make extra payments to HMRC; it's a simple process. You can do it quietly, as some actually do or you can explain how easy it is and try to encourage others to do the same.

Alternatively you can make a song and dance about how much you want to pay more tax, because you are such a great person, (but you can't just now because ... [insert feeble reason]).

I'm glad they are standing their ground. Jess Phillips should consider her position.
I can't fucking believe they have given the victims some hope, thrust them into the limelight and then fucked them over. Disgrace.

Ah thank you. It probably a good idea to keep busy with finances this week. My nerves are shredded. I've also presents to wrap, a list of things to go in a bag to assemble. I've also Christmas cards if I get bored 😂

Absolutely.

It's bizarre.

Just pay extra tax to your heart's desire.

SpaceRaccoon · 21/10/2025 21:09

I'm so disappointed in Jess Phillips. Whatever my views on her other politics, I always thought she was decent on the standing up for women and girls front. From that to this is a shocking fall from grace.

I was just reading further into this, and yes, an absolute disgrace. The poor victims, after everything they have been through.

If one thing brings down this wretched government, please let it be this - it would be a small measure of justice.

Try to be at peace @justasking111

Take comfort from this thread - for Labour, the adverse news flow and data is relentless at the moment.

At this rate, they will soon be stymied as a functioning government.

Ikr. And why are they still millionaires if they are so passionate about giving their money away? Strange.

They write off some tax by donating to charity. Theyd rather give it to a hospice than the government. Very sensible.

Another welcome outbreak of common sense policing (video of the arrest is on social media, apparently)

An NHS doctor who appeared to celebrate the Hamas Oct 7 attack on Israel has been arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, a junior medic training to be a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, told police “you are doing this for the Israeli Jewish lobby” as she was arrested in South Gloucestershire on Tuesday morning.

In a video shared on social media, the doctor is told she is under arrest for three alleged offences relating to malicious communications and one for inciting racial hatred.

A police officer says: “On 7th October, you posted a variety of communications which demonstrated support for Hamas’ attack on Israel. An attack which involved murder, rape and kidnap of Israeli citizens, all of which may be considered grossly offensive in character.”

Dr Aladwan is told she is also accused of giving a speech calling for the eradication of Israel at a pro-Palestine protest outside the Foreign Office on July 21.

“You are doing this for the Israeli Jewish lobby so you can get an arrest on me before my tribunal on Thursday,” she appears to say in the video, adding: “This is what the UK does to their doctors.”

Dr Aladwan marked the second anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel with social media posts appearing to glorify “the day ‘Israel’ was humiliated”.
Palestinian fighters murdered more than 1,200 people and took a further 251 hostages during the atrocities.

The General Medical Council (GMC) launched a fitness to practise investigation following the posts. It then referred Dr Aladwan to an Interim Orders Tribunal, which took place on Sept 25 at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), arguing there should be restrictions on her registration.

Lutonsgirl · 22/10/2025 07:14

Thats good news..I have the sense of the fighting to bring back commen sense against authorities and institutions and surely it shouldn't be this hard.

Mind you, I admit I work in the public sector (i haven't always)..where most days the things they do astound me!

What's crazy was she went to that tribunal on September the 25th and the General Medical Council decided that everything was a-okay.

It was only when Wes Streeting said that the result demonstrated that the GMC was a radicalised bunch of incompetents demonstrating a bias that meant he had no confidence in the system that this woman was re-referred and that was due this week.

100%. I said on another thread that people could pay more tax if they wished. One of the responses from someone who was vociferous about 'the rich paying more tax' was along the lines of they would not do that because their contribution 'would just be a drop in the ocean'.

Do they even HEAR themselves? Hard of thinking is being polite.

Rivalled · 22/10/2025 08:00

Yes definitely, untouched by any of the facts around tax and the inherently progressive nature of income tax.

Yes definitely, untouched by any of the facts around tax and the inherently progressive nature of income tax.

Just a slight correction, income tax isn't inherently progressive as a concept. It's just that the UK has implemented it in a highly progressive, highly redistributive way. It's a choice.

Some countries do have a flat rate tax - where everyone pays the same rate of tax (obviously higher earners still pay more, but only in proportion to their income)

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/634c59e00ee6d48a

It's expensive - basically the lower earners have to step up and pay their share - but good for economic growth.

I don't think it's a particularly realistic change for the UK - but it's worth pointing out that our current UK system where almost all tax is squeezed out of a small number of high earners absolutely isn't a neutral (or inherent) baseline.

Yet they still - always - want more.

Rivalled · 22/10/2025 08:16

thats interesting, I didn’t know it worked like that anywhere. It’s amazing how much what we think of as standard varies across the world.

I like the sound of a flat rate…
