A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Caerphilly hotting up. Still no sign of anyone senior in the labour party dropping in to boost the voters.

I wonder why 🤔
Toxic, all of them. Even the other left parties want nothing to do with Labour. Welsh Labour have probably told Starmer and Co to stay well away to avoid further tarring.

I’m sure Scottish Labour are not keen for a royal visit from Keir et al either!

On that note WHY are they going ahead. They have zero mandate and the majority against.

At least Johnson wouldn’t do ID. These are awful controlling people, honestly it’s a nightmare.

There’s things organised against I might look into it.

You would think that Labour would aim to improve their popularity wouldn't you. Not this Labour, quite the opposite.

Starmer should go and promote his BritCard. He'd go down a storm 😂

In the wake of the party conference season, this is how the party leaders are perceived:

They'd only make things worse if they go and help and I'm not sure where that would leave Welsh Labour under this new pr system, probably religated to making the tea.

He'd be flying if 'Don't Know' wasn't a death knell.

Upstartled · 21/10/2025 14:44

Only 60% of LibDem voters could name Ed Davey - it's been five years!

I was at a board meeting last week of a charity that I am a trustee of.

We don’t do fundraising from the general public, it is mainly wealthy individuals who donate because they believe in our cause, and want to support the UK generally.

Many of them were not born in the UK, but chose to live here. Many of them own their own businesses. The message we are getting from them is that if RR’s budget is as anti-wealthy people as is rumoured, and if they continue to be demonised, then they will not stay in the UK, and will not support UK charities and causes when they leave, but will instead divert their charitable giving to causes in the country they settle in.

We are talking very very wealthy people here, who have the money and connections to move country if they want to. The sort of wealth where they give us a five/six figure sum every year without blinking, and give similar or larger sums to many other charities, because it’s not just us that they support. Year after year, they do this.

But, all that is at risk - not to mention the taxes that they pay, and the employment that they provide. And all because of jealousy and attacks on ambition from the left.

It makes me so cross when people say that “the rich” should pay more tax, donate more to charity - because they really don’t have a clue just how much “the rich” are already doing.

If only they'd just pay a fair amount of tax. Wouldn't that just be a lot easier and fairer than them favouring their pet causes in order to be able to pay less tax?

Nolletimiere · 21/10/2025 15:07

Dear oh dear.

Looks like there’s a novovirus going around.

Pet causes? Yes let’s abolish all charities and just pay more tax, love it.

Would madam be better served on an alternative thread, perhaps?

May I share a link, for your convenience?

I know right? Just imagine if people who can drop a 6 figure donation without blinking would pay a decent amount of tax what a society we could build. Charity should not need to exist in a civilised society - at least not unless for a very niche cause.

I’m just bringing @Nolletimiere great post over as we still have people who demand even state support, even higher taxes on the same people, lower numbers working etc

The demand will always go up unless some reality is imposed.

So, we are now borrowing over £180bn a year and spending £110bn a year on debt repayments, because 53.3% of all UK households are taking more in benefits/services than they contribute in all taxes (in 1977 it was 37%).

The current trajectory takes it to 60% by ~2045 and 70% by ~2080. The percentage of retired households receiving more in benefits and services than contributing in all taxes is 90.1% (93.5% in 1977), and 45.8% of non-retired households (29.5% in 1977).
We have 9.4m of working age not in employment and ‘economically inactive’. We have 9.9 million working age who receive some form of DWP benefit. Just one secondary school place (£7.5k) takes the income tax of two £30k earners to cover the cost.

We have a crooked system where someone on £150k pays FIFTEEN TIMES more income tax than someone earning £30k. And is generally despised for it; even though they are paying for the benefits and welfare of dozens of people.

UTTER INSANITY.

Edited

This is terrifying!!!

upseedaisee · 21/10/2025 15:14

We have another one? Godamighty, can't they just go and flog that dead horse in their own echo chamber?

Rivalled · 21/10/2025 15:15

we’ll have to agree to disagree - charities are a vital part of civil society, many charities help people navigate govt services, bridge and get support they would otherwise not be able to.

no amount of tax can replace charities.

I don't think most laypeople have any idea how much tax revenue is generated from the wealthiest in the country. Put it this way, half of the country chips in 10% and, even then, the heavy lifting of other 90% is weighted at the very highest wealth deciles.

upseedaisee · 21/10/2025 15:21

I used to have a grudging respect for Jess Phillips. I don't agree with her politics (obviously) but her steadfast support for women earned my respect. Over the last year, that has all gone. She has been at the heart of this rape gang obfuscation and it's obvious to anyone with half a brain that her constituents and local branch have been putting the pressure on her.
What with the attempt to water down the scope of the investigation, to subvertly attacking those women who have resigned from the inquiry.
Yet she still has the nerve to read out names of women who have been murdered. She seems able to commit herself to the dead, it's about time she did so to the living. Words fail me.

Completely agree. Hard to tell if she is traitorous feminist or a total coward.
