A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Hermer has a week to answer questions on whether his sticky fingers are over the collapse of the China spying case.

Darren pocket money Jones has been summoned to give evidence too.

Good. Miliband and all of Labour were pathetic on trying to pull the it was an out of date thing. Such arrogance. They do need to be asked, it’s relevant.

I’ve been reading about RR’s plan to blame tax rises on Brexit. Goodness knows I was no fan of Brexit but you know what else pushed up our debt? Lockdowns - and Labour kept pushing for those to be harder and longer.

It was all the conservative's fault at the last budget. Now the penny has dropped that Farage is their opponent so they've pivoted to blaming Brexit. Huge eye roll.

It’s nonsense. I think the blame everyone else thing will fail. They’re scrabbling.

Just reading the eye watering public sector spend for September, highest since the pandemic and the huge borrowing costs.

Britain borrowed £20.2bn last month, the highest on record for any September except for the pandemic-afflicted 2020

The Chancellor spent almost £10bn on debt interest in September alone, according to the Office for National Statistics. September’s £9.7bn bill was up from £5.8bn a year earlier.

TheNuthatch · 21/10/2025 12:50

We'd still be in lockdown now if Labour had been in office.

Yes, funny how we are expected to agree that Brexit is biting this year but her own forecasts betray her inability to have remembered that last year when she was setting out the expected growth for the country - growth in the face of all her own anti-business policies.

They can't think that people who have so little trust in politicians that they are willing to stake the health of the country on a party who only has a handful of MPs - actually believes anything she says?

So who is the audience here?

I think she may as well say we’ve lost it when casting around like this.

I have no idea who they are trying to appease. Backbenchers? It isn't working, whoever they are.

Reeves has given a speech today claiming that her last budget fixed the foundations and returned stability to the economy.
How can she say that a keep a straight face?

Speaking at an investment summit, she said: "Our economy is not broken but I do accept that for too many people it's not working as it should.
"Bills are too high. Businesses often don't have the tools that they need to succeed, and people are feeling that they put more in, but they're getting less out.
"That has to change. At the budget last year we fixed the foundations of our economy, returned stability to our economy.
"And at the budget next month we will take the necessary steps to secure those foundations and that stability for the future.

She’s created this environment with NI policy and anti growth rhetoric and policy. So bad.

I hope they feel the reality of losing votes at the by election.

Rivalled · 21/10/2025 14:13

we’ve moved from fixing the foundations to securing the foundations. There’s one bill I can think of that’s too high…nobody is buying this.

Drives me nuts when Reeves utters that phrase, in that metallic monotone voice.

Makes nails on a blackboard sound sublime.

I think it's aimed at the Labour party faithful. You see it on MN threads: Labour roll out some soundbite on repeat, and then people on here start trotting it out, clearly without thinking through whether it's true. They've just heard it said enough times to believe it. And they think it makes them sound clever/knowledgeable/in-group

Prime examples are: "inherited a mess", 'it's going to take time to fix 14 years of the Tories' and 'pay their fair share'.

It's classic cult techniques: using language to manipulate:
1.emotionally loaded language
2.Them and us.
3.Thought terminating cliches

TheNuthatch · 21/10/2025 14:23

I thought Boris Johnson did quite well at the covid inquiry.

It’s weird how quickly it goes from Labour soundbite to here. Fortunately that pool of people is declining each week, if you know it’s lies it’s just anger inducing instead.

I didn’t watch but you’re with friends here, he was driven out by the media and a strategist.

Caerphilly hotting up. Still no sign of anyone senior in the labour party dropping in to boost the voters.

TheNuthatch · 21/10/2025 10:25

Current polling for digital ID 👀

33% in favour - 55% oppose

(Pre announcement was 42% Vs 45% so support dropping)

Scotland (SNP and Reform are against ID)

28% in favour - 60% oppose

On that note WHY are they going ahead. They have zero mandate and the majority against.

At least Johnson wouldn’t do ID. These are awful controlling people, honestly it’s a nightmare.

There’s things organised against I might look into it.

Yeah you may be right. I've noticed that on here too. When anything big happens, they all go very quiet until Labour have trotted out their excuse of the day. It then gets parroted on here.
