A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Survation polling shows that 30% of Labour members would want Starmer to stand down if Labour loses the Senedd next year (almost inevitable now, I would guess). That number increases to 40% if the member is also supporting Powell's deputy leadership election 😙

Rivalled · 24/10/2025 08:06

The thing is, we don’t want this govt who have rushed in badly thought out policies to do more of it in panic mode given that they’re getting electorally cooked…

isn't it obvious that people don’t have confidence in the top team by the point?

Rivalled · 24/10/2025 08:07

Powell must be wondering if she wants the D PM job at this juncture - I don’t think I’d be enthused about joining a clearly sinking ship.

I admit, I am a long term fan of Jess Phillips, I’m surprised she’s not resigned from handling the inquiry yet, she’s got such a long record in this area but like the ex policeman and social worker, surely she can see that in this instance she’s doing no good?

are there other safe guarding reforms in the offing she’s desperate to see through?

I imagine that she'll be chomping at the bit after being removed from the cabinet. Only to be returned to the top by the membership.

TBH I’m surprised the figure’s only 30% across the party. I can only presume that there’s obviously so little talent or capability in the parliamentary party that the 70% of Labour members just can’t think of anyone else.

And despite the nasty shitshow that was Corbyn’s leadership, the left of the party is still quite strong and would mobilise in the event of a leadership contest for yet another Labour civil war.

So Labour have lost one of the safest seats in Wales.😍🎉🎊🎆🎆
I wonder what the mood over breakfast at no 10 is like this morning (sarc) It was a major drubbing wasn't it?

Love the talk re severity of the problem Labour faces.

It was indeed a drubbing so a little surprising Labour supporters on MN are so happy with the result (or profess to be)

Imdunfer · 24/10/2025 08:25

This new Employment Rights Bill.

Can anyone explain to me what need there is to make it much easier to strike, with fewer votes in favour before calling a strike?

What's the purpose of it except to increase union power to disrupt employers' businesses in a very undemocratic way?

Even with 3 years or more, they ain't turning this around. I think we can all bask in the certainty that Labour are a dead dog rotting in street, who will be swept up and chucked out with all the other garbage come 2029.

Perhaps there’s still belief in a socialist utopia just around the corner. There really isn’t. We get any more left than Reeves and the markets will tank pretty much all.

It doesn’t matter who proposes it they wouldn’t lady a day. Wales is ok as can demand stuff from WM but UK wide we’re not going further left.

What you have to remember is Labour IS the unions. During the last Conservative government, David Cameron scrapped the Trade Unions Bill, which made it almost impossible for flash strikes to occur. No more down tools and 'everbody out!'. It also meant the unions couldn't just rock up to a firm and insist they have a representation on the shop floor.
So to appease their union paymasters, Labour had to promise to return their power. It's another nail in the coffin of free enterprise.

Really? MN’s Labourites are celebrating Labour’s utter humiliation in a previous rock solid stronghold?

Presumably that’s on the basis that Reform were beaten by the nationalists. Strange times.

Everything I’ve read is that the Labour MS who died was good and well-liked. Usually that produces a sympathetic vote. Not with Starmer Labour though. Labour really are looking over the precipice.

Oh, I thought it was quite high.

I expect that once you get 30% who would be willing to chuck the towel in with Starmer on the strength of the Senedd results alone - and then look to the number of members who would be willing to switch him out on the back of the inevitable piss poor local elections delivered on the same day, then that'll add up to Labour meltdown territory.

Then there's Labour bleeding party members to the newly communist Green Party.

Yea, it's telling that the Labour enthusiasts have morphed into - Anything but Reform. It mirrors the direction of Labour voters generally. This time next year they'll be canvassing for the Tories.

Jess Phillips has completely lost the trust of the survivors. Five women walked away from the inquiry because she appeared to dismiss their concerns and downplayed certain aspects of the abuse. If she can’t listen to the survivors or lead with integrity, she shouldn’t be anywhere near this role. She needs to resign.

Yes it’s the Reform “defeat” they’re celebrating although not really when you look how far they’ve come in such a short time. Labour performance hardly mentioned. All very bizarre.

Nolletimiere · 24/10/2025 08:40

I see two binary outcomes for Labour.

Either they continue with their inexorable decline, or they come out swinging with increasingly radical (read punitive) policy.

My fear and suspicion is it will prove the latter (given they are clearly a max one-term government).

Rivalled · 24/10/2025 08:41

I agree @TwistyTurnip it doesn’t fit with her conduct to date for me really, that she hasn’t already.

Rivalled · 24/10/2025 08:41

Will they celebrate when the incumbent snp once again wipe the floor with Labour and launch Indy ref stuff in Scotland…
