A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thank you. I don't think anyone has archived the article I want to read yet? Is that how it works? Oh God, how can I be this old?

What's crazy was she went to that tribunal on September the 25th and the General Medical Council decided that everything was a-okay.

It was only when Wes Streeting said that the result demonstrated that the GMC was a radicalised bunch of incompetents demonstrating a bias that meant he had no confidence in the system that this woman was re-referred and that was due this week.

The doctor has history doing a bit of digging.

If you're happy to share, you could post a link to the original article one of us can try it for you on archive?

Also why won't they say "Pakistani"? I'd be bloody mad if I was Chinese or Indian and they kept talking about Asian rape gangs. They are just desperate not to upset a sizeable proportion of their voters, it stinks.

Edited

My sister in law is Indian her rage at being confused with a Pakistani has always been a very sore point with her.

Oh yeah, that would be good thanks. The intro seems like it is looking into some of the stuff we were asking yesterday, it might just be regurgitated content though:

Lurking on your thread. I absolutely agree that Labour isn't working. I'm in Scotland where SNP is working even less so.

I'm just not sure there is a credible alternative? I would go Tories but seems like a wasted vote now? Reform's plans on economy even less credible than Labour's so that would be a car crash.

Who are people here supporting? It feels like the worst pick and mix in the world, all the options are different sorts of disasters.

I think we're increasingly a tribe of disaffected voters. I'm hoping the Tories will pull its head out of its arse in the next few years and make an economic argument that could win back the public.

I'm in a constituency that will probably return a conservative seat so not entirely wasted. Failing that, I'd vote Reform before I voted Labour and I'd vote Labour before The Greens. So, make of that what you will because I'm not so sure yet.

My heart sank this morning when I read that RR was going to hit GPs for more money. I know three 60 and over in our town over two surgeries who will just walk away. One is mine the senior partner. It will be carnage.

Yes. I don’t know why anyone would back this

Rivalled · 22/10/2025 10:09

The doctors/solicitors/accountants plan is mad - the doctor who is in charge at my practice looks absolutely depressed on the way into work as it is.

do you think Keir is secretly trying to rebuild Tory party membership?

@apples24 same boat here, I would vote with nobody with much enthusiasm here - there’s not a lot to choose between SNP and Labour because SNP are going to plunge us into more Indy stuff as soon as they do well in 2026….

Labour seeming to be apeing unsuccessful SNP policies they think are popular. Despite clear adverse consequences.

Welcome 😁
My constituency is a Labour stronghold, so I will vote for whomever has the best chance of beating them here. Labour have held this seat since the dinosaurs roamed. Next election I will probably vote for Reform as they are projected to beat Labour here. I'm a tory, but it's a wasted vote here.
Who are you thinking of voting for in May? Is your constituency a toss up between SNP and Reform?

Welsh government put out information yesterday on social media that they were going to be announcing university fee changes. Last night every one had disappeared. Someone squashed it.

Sounds sensible, but who made the decision the Senedd or Westminster?

I’m just bringing @Nolletimiere great post over as we still have people who demand even state support, even higher taxes on the same people, lower numbers working etc

The demand will always go up unless some reality is imposed.

So, we are now borrowing over £180bn a year and spending £110bn a year on debt repayments, because 53.3% of all UK households are taking more in benefits/services than they contribute in all taxes (in 1977 it was 37%).

The current trajectory takes it to 60% by ~2045 and 70% by ~2080. The percentage of retired households receiving more in benefits and services than contributing in all taxes is 90.1% (93.5% in 1977), and 45.8% of non-retired households (29.5% in 1977).
We have 9.4m of working age not in employment and ‘economically inactive’. We have 9.9 million working age who receive some form of DWP benefit. Just one secondary school place (£7.5k) takes the income tax of two £30k earners to cover the cost.

We have a crooked system where someone on £150k pays FIFTEEN TIMES more income tax than someone earning £30k. And is generally despised for it; even though they are paying for the benefits and welfare of dozens of people.

UTTER INSANITY.

Edited

I agree finances are mess. I also have no faith in the Government But please remember at any stage those £150k earners - that you say are paying for all the benefits, could actually end up on benefits themself. Through no fault of their own. Health does not discriminate between high and low earners… surely we look out for others still? Or has humankind completely eroded?

So, basically, economists recognise that the real black hole is the productivity gap that emerged prior to austerity and Brexit and Brexit cannot be considered the sole - or even leading cause of our lack of growth and that the decision to frame it as such is contested at no.10, with some saying that it is useful to hammer Farage and others saying it reopens the immigration can of worms.

That seems to be an admission that nobody is very interested in the truth if the matter but they are scrapping over the best way to present the visuals.

Same old, then.

I'm also in Scotland and will be voting Tory in the upcoming Scottish elections (at least with PR it isn't totally a waste).
For me, it's because I'm in a rural region that's being hammered with "green energy" developments like the mega pylons, wind farms, battery storage etc, and the Tory councillors and MPs/MSPs are the only ones who are pushing back on that.

I'm okay paying taxes to support the most vulnerable. I'm not okay with paying for those people who are swinging the lead.

And I'm not okay with a government who has increased minimum wage and NI and engineered more unemployment.

apples24 · 22/10/2025 10:23

Mine has traditionally been SNP v Conservatives, for me anything before SNP so pretty sure for Holyrood elections I will vote conservatives for both votes.

I couldn't bring myself to voting either SNP or Reform. I think in the end I'm bit of a wet blanket one nation conservative type. There a vacuum there though.

I think Kemi is more sensible than the other leaders although she probably doesn’t fit one nation part, and it’s a tough gig against Reform who will build momentum as Labour tank.

I’m anyone but Labour.

My brother's currently a GP partner, but has already thrown in the towel in order to return to his previous role as a surgeon. He will leave his practice in January. The reasons for his decision are manifold - not least the valuable time wasted on petty bureaucracy.

He says if he hadn't already made the decision, this latest threat (which is how he views it) from Reeves would have sealed the deal for him.

You don't have to be a genius to work out other GPs are watching and waiting.
