Just curious.
I have really poor eyesight (-4.50) and have wore glasses full time since a child

OP posts:

-10. Age has actually improved my eyesight from -11!

Iwiicit · 16/10/2025 22:24

-8.5 in both eyes.

dontcomeatme · 16/10/2025 22:26

-2.75 in both eyes with severe astigmatism. I never used to wear them full time but every time I have an eye test my sight is worse x

-3.75 and -4.25

I just prefer crisp vision over taking them off and on all the time.

Jmaho · 16/10/2025 22:29

Have worn contact lenses for over 30 years.
-5 in both eyes.
Having to now wear reading glasses with lenses as struggling to read my computer screen
Wish I'd had surgery

Sagaciously · 16/10/2025 22:29

-2 in both. I only wear contact lenses. I really hate wearing glasses.

Butterflysunshine01 · 16/10/2025 22:31

-10 in both eyes 😂 hate wearing glasses as the part around the glasses is so blurry it makes me feel wierd! Even though I have big lenses!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 16/10/2025 22:31

-7.25. Dreading the day when I need reading glasses because I can’t read without my glasses as things are!

CuppaWhiteTea · 16/10/2025 22:31

-7 and -5.5. Often can’t see clearly enough to find my glasses again if I take them off for any reason and have to enlist the help of DH

soupyspoon · 16/10/2025 22:33

-5.75

But due to peri, cant see a bloody thing. Even with my glasses

HobnobsChoice · 16/10/2025 22:35

-4.25 in my left eye and +2 in my right. Every single opthalmologist who sees my prescription does a double take and then does my eye test and comments on how rare antimetropia is. Yes I know! My glasses mostly correct it but the issue is how my brain sees things.

Mumofteenandtween · 16/10/2025 22:41

According to my contact lenses -6.5 and -8. But I think worse with my glasses. And I have an astigmatism as well. In total my right eye adds up to double figures thus meaning I get the NHS voucher for a princely sum of £15.81.

In reality my glasses cost hundreds of pounds because I need the maximum thinning. Even with the maximum thinning my glasses are so heavy that Inhave slight dents in my head.

My tween son has just started wearing these special lenses that allegedly reduce sight deterioration. I really hope they work for him.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 16/10/2025 22:41

-8.5 and also need reading glasses (am 47 and needed them a couple of years ago). I have varifocals. Have worn glasses all the time until I was 8 years old.

Wickedo · 16/10/2025 22:43

-8.5 and -7.5 I’ve never been able to manage with contacts so I’m a full time glasses wearer.

RelocatingtoFrance · 16/10/2025 22:44

Iwiicit · 16/10/2025 22:24

-8.5 in both eyes.

same!
i correct to -8.0 because otherwise i cannot read

AngelaBB · 16/10/2025 22:46

-10 and -12. People, including my husband, don’t believe how short sighted I am.

Jellybean23 · 16/10/2025 22:48

+0.50 and +0.25. I'm 70 so feel very fortunate.

sunsu · 16/10/2025 22:48

-5 and -5.25. Have needed glasses since a teen when struggling to see the board but only started wearing them full-time when I was 18+. I remember being too vain to wear my specs in the pubs and loosing my friends in the dark! That’s when I started wearing contact lenses and have worn one or the other every day since

OnlyOnAFriday · 16/10/2025 22:49

-10.5

Anonmousse · 16/10/2025 22:49

Until the last couple of years I wore my glasses -2.5 or contacts -2.25, all the time.

Now im finding more and more instances where I need no glasses or contacts. I do very close and detailed work, so I take my glasses off for most of the day....but if I drop something on the floor, I need them to look for it! And I have to put them on as soon as I am outside.
I rarely wear them for looking at my phone.....but I need for watching tv.
I probably should have varifocals but im working through the denial phase! 🤣

Have you tried smaller frames? The lens will be thinner and there will be less edge distortion.

SchatzMaus · 16/10/2025 22:51

-9.0 and -9.50
I’ve worn glasses since I was 12 and started wearing contacts at 17. Now I’m 32 and regularly wonder what it must feel like to wake up in the morning, open my eyes and just see!

One pro of wearing contacts is that I always feel invincible when cutting onions. Everyone else’s eyes are stinging and I’m living my best life 😂😂😂

TheBirdintheCave · 16/10/2025 22:53

-6 🤓 I usually wear contacts most of the time but then the optician told me off so I’ve been wearing my glasses more lately. Bottle tops as I can’t have them thinned as I get the dreaded fishbowl effect!

emmetgirl · 16/10/2025 22:55

-8.5 left -8.0 right

It's even more cost, but have you tried titanium frames? They are quite a bit lighter. 'Every little helps'.

Boots reglaze my frames when my prescription changes, so I don't have to keep shelling out.
