Just curious.
I have really poor eyesight (-4.50) and have wore glasses full time since a child

One is +2.5 and the other is +1.75. I need them for work. I only started wearing contacts during Covid as my face mask made my glasses steam up! I now wear them almost every day out of habit- and so I don’t have to wear my glasses covered in smudges😁

AsideFromThis · 17/10/2025 07:09

-3.75 both eyes. I used to be -5 but as I’ve aged I asked to still be legal to drive but not be corrected so far for distance.
That was all good for several years but I hate putting on reading glasses, so recently I’ve had one eye corrected for reading so now have -2 in my non dominant eye and it’s revolutionary!

-3.75 and -3.5 prefer my 👓 over lenses but needs must when going swimming 😂

Oh please don’t say you wear your lenses in the swimming pool! Please please stop if so.

Been wearing glasses since i was 13. My worse eye has improved slightly with age.

piccolopuppy · 17/10/2025 07:22

-10.5 and -11

A lot of people don’t know about the acanthamoeba risk ( ?spelling)
I wear one lens only and goggles. It gets removed as soon as I leave the pool. It is a risk but hopefully I’ve minimised it as much as possible .

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 17/10/2025 07:24

-12.5, with astigmatism. My eyesight is still deteriorating and my glasses need updating annually, and they’re so expensive.

Really wish I could afford the lense replacement surgery, but when I looked into it it was £16000 per eye. 😖

SutekhsEars · 17/10/2025 07:26

Mumofteenandtween · 16/10/2025 22:41

According to my contact lenses -6.5 and -8. But I think worse with my glasses. And I have an astigmatism as well. In total my right eye adds up to double figures thus meaning I get the NHS voucher for a princely sum of £15.81.

In reality my glasses cost hundreds of pounds because I need the maximum thinning. Even with the maximum thinning my glasses are so heavy that Inhave slight dents in my head.

My tween son has just started wearing these special lenses that allegedly reduce sight deterioration. I really hope they work for him.

My son has had these for two years and his eyesight hasn't worsened at all in that time. I really hope he doesn't have all the problems I have had with my vision.

AlwaysGardening · 17/10/2025 07:27

-11.5 and -12.5 and +2.5 for reading glasses. Literally don’t get out of bed without glasses. Wear contact lenses most of the time plus reading glasses, and my varifocals in the evening.

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 17/10/2025 07:29

-8.5 here plus astigmatism in right eye. Contact lenses and now reading glasses.

Glasses now cost an eye watering amount. I wear silicone daily disposable, game changer in terms of comfort. When I have the funds I’m doing lasik, after years of consultation and being pushed towards lens replacement I’m just going to try laser

RaraRachael · 17/10/2025 07:30

Somewhere around -15 in both eyes with a separated retina and astigmatism.
I wore contact lenses for over 40 years after being bullied for wearing glasses at school. Got to the stage a few years ago when I needed reading gasses on top of them.
Gave up lenses a couple of years ago as I was fed up of the faff involved.
Couldn't have surgery to improve my eyesight as my prescription was too high

thisishowloween · 17/10/2025 07:38

-9ish in both eyes - one is worse than the other but my prescription has luckily stayed pretty steady for the past decade or so. I also have astigmatism and can’t wear contacts.

BeMintFatball · 17/10/2025 07:39

+8.5 in both eyes. Astigmatism in both eyes. Can’t see in 3D. Loved Hannah the England lions goalie even more for being open about her sight. I think she sees the world similarly to me.

I had a horrible eye infection a few years ago – which is when I switched to dailies and stopped wearing lenses in the pool, on the advice of the eye specialist (who was horrified). So now I will ignore you in the pool! Yes I know you can get scrip goggles but I am fine swimming without tbh.

Audi83 · 17/10/2025 07:41

-15 here too, with astigmatism. Have worn contacts since I was young (I'm 52 now). I also have Thygeson's keratitis and get corneal ulcers. My prescription fluctuates due to the keratitis so some days I can't see out of my lenses/glasses as well as I could the day before! Sometimes my vision changes throughout the day...it's all good fun!

Cyclistmumgrandma · 17/10/2025 07:42

About -7 and -6 for distance, astigmatism and an adjustment for reading. I wear varifocals in a high refractive index plastic which cost me a fortune, just for the lenses!

isitmytime · 17/10/2025 07:43

-1.75 and -2.25 I can’t wear contacts so glasses it is. I actually had my eyes lasered in 2012 but was back wearing glasses after 8years

Crabwoman · 17/10/2025 07:58

-7.0 & -7.00
My astigmatism is -2.75 & - 2.50

Im nearly 42 so can't wait for reading glasses to thrown into the mix. I wear contacts when I am out and glasses at home.

I have a really small face so even narrow/petite frame glasses look a bit oversized on me. That and a high prescription mean glasses make my face look a bit distorted.

cornbunting · 17/10/2025 07:58

Mine isn't bad at all, but noticeable and slowly getting worse. I used to wear contacts full time, but during pregnancy and early motherhood I was so exhausted I felt uncomfortable wearing them. Then I was in the habit of wearing my glasses all the time and haven't really stopped, just wear contacts for cycling or swimming.

My left eye is -1.25 and my right is -0.75 with astigmatism. I'm in my 40s, been wearing glasses for about 15 years.

@Crabwoman I also have a small face - I get frames from the kids section 😂

BeaLola · 17/10/2025 08:02

Started wearing glasses at around age 9 , switched to contact lenses in early 20s , wear dailies -
-4 in left and -4.75 in right

Recently changed my prescription after switching from -5 in both, has meant no off the shelf glasses for small print

helpfulperson · 17/10/2025 08:02

-15 and -17. My astigmatism is getting worse. I'm a hard lens wearer and love tgem.

Rocknrollstar · 17/10/2025 08:18

I wear varifocals and have done for years. What good will it do you to know my prescription?

DarkRootsBlue · 17/10/2025 08:20

I thought I was +3 for distance and +6 for reading but looking at all these minuses maybe I’ve got it wrong? I was always long sighted and didn’t need glasses until my 30s. By mid-50s I needed 3 different pairs for close up, computer and distance (couldn’t make varifocals work for me).

Like pp upthread I got lens replacement surgery in the end and now don’t need glasses at all.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 17/10/2025 08:21

I've always been severely myopic. My glasses lenses were so thick they distorted my depth perception so I wore contact lenses from my early teens.

When I reached age 50 my prescriptions were -11 and -13.5 and not many manufacturers made lenses that strong. I also needed reading glasses, prescription sunnies, prescription goggles and varifocals. It was confusing and very expensive. And 35 years of wearing contact lenses a12-15 hours a day, every day was damaging my eye health.

I was too short sighted for laser surgery but was a suitable candidate for private lens implants. It's similar to cataract surgery - my imperfect lenses were removed and custom made varifocal contact lenses were inserted into my eyes and positioned so they also corrected a mild astigmatism in one eye. It took about 2.5 hours under local anaesthetic, then a days downtime with blurry vision in a darkened room. I was driving (safely and with the surgeons approval) 3 days later.

That was 13 years ago. I now have perfect vision in both eyes. I use reading glasses or a magnifier for very close, intricate crafts but apart from that I no longer need glasses or contacts and never will.

it was expensive, £6000 in 2012 but I've saved that many times over on the cost of contacts and glasses but it's not just about the money. The miracle of being able to see without aids is priceless.

SutekhsEars · 17/10/2025 08:26

@Namechangefordaughterevasion that's interesting. My eyesight is only -4 or -5 and my eye surgeon said I wasn't suitable, my eyesight is too bad, I'd need to have one eye for distance and the other for reading. Where did you get it done, if you don't mind me asking?
